Good morning, Honda-san, and likewise.

[ Chance does have a habit of bringing them together and he's grateful for it; it might be a cold day, but he feels as if he could easily wrap himself up in the warmth of her smile and never feel the chill.

Not that he trusts only to luck. He's made a number of excuses to himself of late to be where he can happen to cross her path. Outside of a few close friends, he's used to people finding him intimidating or hard to approach, yet from the beginning Tohru's always spoken to him cheerfully and earnestly, unbothered by his wealth or status or any of the other impediments that keep him from easily connecting to others.

Perhaps it's no wonder then that he's slowly and quietly fallen in love with her over the time of their acquaintance.

What is surprising, even to himself, is that someone who has little difficulty overcoming every other challenge life presents him with finds the prospect of confessing his feelings so daunting. ]

Shopping for the holidays, I take it?

[ It's that softening of his expression that she notices first, and it warms her up inside just as quickly. At his return greeting for a moment her smile warms further, hinting at a deeper fondness unbeknownst to her.

She was just about to answer his question when she remembered, rather abruptly, that he was the reason she'd come here to shop for.

The timing of this recollection was a bit unfortunate (or comical depending on your point of view) as she's never been good at hiding this sort of thing. Keeping it a surprise is important though, and she's suddenly very aware of the pressure to do so.

She... might be getting a little frazzled and visibly flustered making it painfully apparent that she'd just had some significant realization.

Which in Tohru terms means gradually turning into more and more of a spazz... oh dear ]

U-un! That's right! Before you know it Christmas will be here, and I don't want to be caught off guard at the last minute!

[ Not to mention she isn't sure if she'll find just the right gift today and even if she isn't herself aware of the reason why she knows that this gift needs to be something really special. ]

[ One of them being a present for Tohru, which presents him with somewhat of a challenge. Money's no object, of course; if she wanted it he would give her the world, but at the same time, he doesn't wish to give the impression of attempting to buy her affection. And knowing her, she probably would want for something more modest regardless, even if he's not sure exactly what that would be...

...Ah, I realize you have your own shopping to do, but I wonder if you could possibly assist me with mine. There's a friend of mine that I wish to buy a present for, but as I'm unfamiliar with girls' tastes I'm having some difficulty deciding on something that she would like.

[ He's sorely tempted to offer his hand to her as encouragement to take him up on his proposal for what really could almost be considered a date, but instead he just burrows them into his coat's pockets. ]

I'll treat you to lunch in exchange, of course. So, will you spend some of your morning with me, Honda-san?

[ There's a lot in that offer to dissect, starting from the request to the offer for lunch, it's so neatly packaged that even though she'd customarily insist on paying for her own meal so as not to trouble him there's really no way to do so without seeming rude, in her eyes, so even though the idea clearly flusters her a bit she focuses on the first and last part for now instead.

And regarding that: You would honestly think that he'd just asked her to marry him by how touched and excited she looks. Having her opinion valued highly enough to warrant asking for it while shopping for his friends apparently means a lot to her~~???~~ if her reaction is an indicator. ]

Un! Of course! I would be happy to help if you think that I can, and it would be wonderful to spend some time together.

[ As for picking up his gift, well, she'll figure that out... Surely she can manage to be a little stealthy when it counts? It's for the sake of not spoiling his surprise, so she'll manage something. ] Do you know what types of things they normally enjoy doing?
