[Wellllll... that Wedge above me is a RP partner of mine and she and I have been trying to collect various Rogues for a while. We also have a Biggs, Wes, and Tycho, and we have a number of PSLs happening as well as games that we both play at.
idk what you're up for but basically the things I'm up for can be summed up as "all the things" lol]
[Sorry, my weekend exploded on me. YES that sounds amazing. I'm wondering what would prompt such a thing though. Luke isn't likely to be very secretive about it, especially not to the other pilots. Maybe shortly after Yavin, regarding the fact that he didn't use his targeting computer? Or did you have something else in mind?]
[OHHHHHHHHHHH that makes more sense especially wrt the comment about crashes LOL. So we could do something later in canon then, maybe when Luke is recruiting students, or slightly before that even. Hobbie could be one of the first people Luke offers to teach.
Though he'd have to explain to Hobbie that he might have some trouble because of all his missing limbs resulting in slightly weakened abilities, lol.]
[Luke would be so eager to just start rambling details at him too while he's still in shock. Okay, setting? I'm thinking maybe right after something happened where Luke would be able to sense it.]
[Okay, so I think around the time Luke was recruiting students,
Hobbie was doing the training squadrons thing with Wes. Maybe partly it
comes from Luke's research into the Jedi revealing there was a Jedi with
the Klivian name (kind of like how he discovered Corran had a Jedi
relative) and...I don't know Hobbie's skill at sabacc is actually a result
of unconscious use of the Force? /handwavehandwave]
[Hahaha I love it. Hobbie may be missing too much of his real body to have much Force power but he'll be the best damned Sabacc player in the galaxy. Okay, let me set up a scene...]
[There's a level of embarrassment to all this, Luke has to admit. He's known Hobbie for years, and not just known, worked very closely with. Hobbie's one of his best friends. And yet the evidence is clear.
There's never any cut and dry test for this sort of thing, but once the realization hit him, Luke knew it was true. And even if he's embarrassed about having missed it this whole time, the prospect of getting to train a friend and watch him develop is exciting.
Luke doesn't get to visit often and it's even been a while since he's been to Coruscant. After spending most of the morning getting directed around and finally finding Hobbie and Wes in the training complex, Luke stands close enough to be seen but leans against a wall to wait. He doesn't want to interrupt Hobbie if he's busy, being an important trainer and all.
Since focusing more diligently on his own training, Luke's come quite a long way with that patience thing.
If Hobbie looks over he'll see a smile on Luke's face. Getting to visit old friends is a rare treat.]
[Luke nods in return, still smiling, and patiently watches Hobbie finish up his briefing.
A few of the pilots seem to recognize Luke and he notices their gaping. A quick, barely-there wave of his hand and they look confused for a brief moment, having forgotten what they were looking at, and their attention is returned to Hobbie.
When the briefing is over Luke pushes off the wall and closes the gap.]
Well it's a good thing you didn't or this might have been really awkward.
[With a grin he reaches for Hobbie's hand and then pulls him in for a hug.]
If only I could. That would be a lot less responsibility on my shoulders. [Luke has started to feel the pressure of the task he was left with by Yoda and Ben, renewing the Jedi Order, finding new students. It hasn't been easy and most of his efforts thus far have been thwarted by one thing or another. It's the very reason he's here.
He used to feel bogged down by his responsibility to Rogue Squadron as their leader but nowadays that would feel like the greatest freedom. If only he could go back to that.]
Actually, I'm here looking for a prospective student. [He presses his lips together, anticipating the reaction Hobbie might have, assuming that Luke is going to take away one of his trainees from him.]
[And Luke would be right as Hobbie steps back a bit to give Luke an
appraising look as he frowns slightly.] Here?
[He glances back in the direction of where the trainees had been for
a moment.] Which one is it? Ramian? He's had some pretty damn lucky
runs in the simulators...
[Luke's silent for a moment. Revealing things right away just doesn't feel right. He never answers Hobbie's question, but instead urges him towards a corridor.] Come on, let's walk.
[Even after spending hours going over this conversation in his head during the flight here, Luke still hadn't come up with wording that he liked. He and Hobbie have known each other for so long which means there are already so many senses of obligation between them... which Luke very much doesn't want. He doesn't want Hobbie to feel like he needs to answer in any particular way just because Luke is his friend. It's far more complicated than speaking about this with a stranger or even an acquaintance.]
How do you like your setup here? I know it's nothing like the old days but I'll bet it's nice a break. [Teaching is generally more relaxing than fighting for your life.]
[That non-answer doesn't really do anything to make Hobbie feel better but either way, he falls into step beside Luke easily enough.]
It's not so bad. Beats holing up on Force-forsaken planets and relying on Wedge's cooking. [That attempt at roasted Tauntaun on Hoth was, after all, memorably horrific.] And there's something to be said for teaching the younger generation... [Which is funny when you consider that neither of them are out of their twenties yet.] ...but I miss being with the Rogues.
[Luke snorts a tiny laugh at the jab at Wedge's cooking. He nods in understanding.] I know what you mean.
[Honestly, Luke is a bit relieved that Hobbie isn't gushing about what a great life this is... not that he was expecting that; Hobbie really isn't the type to gush. In fact, if he'd done that Luke might have been a little worried.
But knowing that Luke wouldn't be offering an alternative that Hobbie might feel obligated to take when he's already in a situation he'd miss makes him feel a bit better about all this. Not great, just better.]
I've been doing a lot of research lately, looking through the family histories of Jedi from the last few generations to see if any of them have living descendants. I found a Jedi who died about a hundred years ago. She didn't have any children of her own but she had two nephews. [Luke takes a small breath and tries to keep his voice even, objective.] Their family name was Klivian.
[It's true, if Hobbie had gushed, Luke probably should have been checking to make sure he wasn't talking to an imposter.
And he's definitely not gushing now. He was, in fact, taking a long moment to make sure he was parsing what Luke told him correctly and compare it to the reason Luke said he was here in the first place.
Once he's mentally triple-checked that he really did hear Luke suggest he might have Jedi blood or whatever, Hobbie barks a short, sardonic laugh.]

[awww, thanks. :) And hey, we could just call it "star wars meme" for our purposes, LOL. Or make up something AU-ish for them. I'm game.]

[Shiny! Also...hmmm. Luke has to break it to Hobbie that he's Force sensitive?
Which doesn't explain the number of crashes but hey.]no subject
weekends do that sometimes

Of course, he wraps it up pretty quickly so he can dismiss them and greet Luke.]
Hey, stranger. I'd almost forgotten what you looked like.
[He is, of course, joking.]
and then I went to Mexico and had to focus on game tags during my free time but I'm home now!
