[ She's glancing down, hiding more than anything really, when he answers and misses the slight blush. She is seriously the worst at this, to the point she's not even sure what this is. She tries to convince herself she's just being an idiot - that she's just lonely and it's been too long since anyone outside of her brother has so much as hugged her let alone anything else. That's all it was. She was lonely and a ball of the tail end of teenage hormones.

The admission of his thinking he'd smoke up before coming in doesn't surprise her. She's more than smelled it on him a few times but it doesn't really bother her like she figures it might some people. It's just sort of part of him, like the ever present smell of paints and pencils and charcoal. ]

I don't think Stan and Mary Anne really have much room to talk if we're being honest though. [ She laughs softly and sticks another dildo on the shelf.

She grabs another dildo and sneaks a glance at Alex before she looks down and shrugs a little. ]

[ Alex snorts a laugh and looks over at her. The thing about Laura that Alex likes the most is that she's sharp as fuck. She doesn't miss a damn thing. Laura notices everything, it seems like, and she's good at recalling it when it comes in handy to make a point, like right now. He's always thought that was a pretty cool trait in people; one that he envies. It's cool as hell, he thinks, that she can do it. ]

Yeah, no...you're probably right. They're the bosses, though. They can get away with anything. So unfair.

[ He grins a little and shakes his head to let her know he's mostly joking as he gets back to work helping her unload the box. Alex puts the last dildo from the box on the shelf and sits back on his heels as Laura continues.

Alex really can't help the smile that tugs at the corners of his mouth just then because, if he's honest, it's kind of nice to hear. Even if she's stumbling awkwardly through it; even if she's saying it because she feels like she should and not necessarily because she feels that way. You know, objectively. Or whatever. It's still nice to hear because he's had some pretty shit luck in the dating game and, at the age of twenty-two, he feels like it's a little early to wave the white flag and call it done, but at the same time...sometimes he kind of wants to. Life would be a lot easier if girls like Laura were interested in guys like Alex. ]

Thanks. Tell them that, huh? I know like it's cliche as fuck to say that nice guys finish last, but like for real, they do. And not the nice guys who say they're nice guys and then get all bent out of shape because they feel like they're entitled to the affection of a girl — or a guy, I guess — just because they've been a good friend to that person for however long. Like, that's not an actual nice guy, you know what I mean? That's a douchebag wearing a nice guy mask.
