INJURIES.
1. Sprain/strain. How did you screw up walking?
2. Broken bones. Simple fractures still hurt.
3. Cuts. Hopefully one of you has a sewing kit.
4. Burns. Location, location, location. Let's pray this one isn't on your ass.
5. Concussion. No, they're most likely not holding up fifteen fingers.
6. Other. I'm not a doctor.

HOW'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Stupidity. You did this to yourself.
2. Accident. Is an unintentional attack still an attack?
3. Attack. Don't lie, you deserved it.
4. Other. It's probably still your own fault.

WHERE'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Home. Did you remember to invest in a first aid kit?
2. School/Work. This should be excellent for getting you out of doing stuff!
3. Outdoors. Predators like the smell of blood. Clean up asap.
4. In the water. Hopefully there aren't any sharks!
5. Other. Like a hospital. That'd be handy.

Normally, Jan was more careful. She knew that away missions were dangerous. She read the reports. She knew the statistics and that she wore a uniform that was an eye-catching color to most beings, making her an easy target.

So she knew to be careful but she really hadn't seen any other alternative. Jan was not going to let some creepy being with some type of weapon she didn't recognize sneak up on Kirk.

At least all those self defense classes had come in handy and Sulu had been right and she could throw a decent punch. Still, by the time it was over - or she assumed it was over since most of it was a blur - Jan was bruised and she might have hit her head on something. Despite it all, she looks incredibly pleased with the entire situation. "See... I'm fit for more than just desk duty."

Her intervention couldn't have been more perfectly timed. It touched off a skirmish that otherwise would have been an ambush. Laying on the ground around her are several other unconscious aliens, weapons lost. The battle is definitely over.

Jim gives her a good once over as others members of the team fan out. The look on his face fluctuates between pride and concern. "That was a wicked sucker punch. Remind me never to get on your bad side."

He reaches out, tentatively inspecting a bruise on her forehead.

It surprised her when she saw that Kirk looked worried. More worried than he usually did whenever something like this happened. But he was proud of her and no one had gotten seriously hurt.

Giving him a wry smile, she couldn't help teasing. "I'll remind you next time you try to avoid your paperwork." Tipping her head up so he could get a better look at her forehead, she managed not to flinch when the bruise started to ache. "I used to watch you spar in the Academy and Sulu's been teaching me."

He's never considered his fighting style anything to write home about. What he lacks in formal training though, he makes up for with determination and tenacity. Sulu on the other hand? "He's going to turn the whole crew in black belts," he replies making light of the situation. "I think it's his secret mission in life."

The bruise is already starting to turn colors. At least her speech isn't slurred. That's a good sign. "Headache?"
