they are the hunters, we are the foxes - and we run

Sometimes, these things happen. Sometimes, you're in just the wrong place at just the right time, or you've made the wrong (or right, depending on your intentions) person mad. Sometimes it's better for everyone if you just go. Sometimes there isn't time for good-bye.
You've managed to lose yourself somewhere out there, for whatever reason it was. Maybe you took someone with you (willingly? not?), or you found someone else who needed to disappear as badly as you did. You're in your car, or a cheap hotel, or a house by the side of the road. What else can you do but watch, and wait?
It could have been as simple as being glimpsed at the 7-11. Your phoneline wasn't as secure as you thought. You locked eyes with the wrong person across the room. Now the house of cards is collapsing, and maybe not just your life, but the lives of everyone you love could be in jeopardy now. The walls are closing in, and your arms are giving out.
- post with your character's name and canon. if you have an on-the-run AU, or scenarios you might want to play out, mention them here.
- find others. tag them.
- and then, run.

You used to make me cover up. Put on a robe. Would that make you more comfortable now?
[She took a step towards him, consciously keeping her fingers straight so that her hands didn't form fists. Not because she wanted to hurt him, but because a part of her still expected him to reject her true form as he had once done.]
Charles... [It was quieter now, her tone softer as she took in the wheelchair and his longer hair.]

I never... [ he stops, starts again: ] I'm sorry, that I made you... I'm sorry, Raven. I want whatever makes you comfortable.
[ he's unused to seeing her this way. he's unused to all this. but it doesn't stop him from showing relief once she flickers from pale pink to scaled blue, nor the love that fairly radiates when she doesn't reject him outright. he'd been unsure, but her act of showing herself gives him some confidence. ]
Raven.
[ he says her name again, matching her tone. penitence shadows the circles under his eyes. ]
I hoped you'd come. You know you are always safe here.

I'm not sure I even know what that is anymore, but this is me. This is what you get if you want the real me. My only promise to you is that I'll at least cover up if you ever take me out to dinner.
[The tight smile briefly became a genuine one as a flash of white teeth stood out amongst the blue. But that was as far as the smile went before she eyed the fridge and then she eyed him again.]
I'm glad you're still a little predictable. I was going to come earlier, but-- [A shrug of her shoulder.] This was never going to be a pleasant conversation if I did.
[She dampened her lips with her tongue briefly before she made another move forward and then dropped to her knees in front of him. She reached out to touch his face, blue fingertips dancing over his beard with an amused look. He wasn't quite the Charles she had grown up with but that didn't stop her loving him all the same.]
Do you feel safe with me here?

[ it's both a continuation of his apology and an attempt at shared ground; they both hated those dinner parties.
at her question he weighs his answers, but in the end decides she deserves the truth. ]
I feel safe. As does Hank, of course. If we had students here, it might be another matter. National security we can dodge, but. [ there's a hint of a wince before whatever he says next; somewhere, erik knows he's taken a piece on the board. ] There are some who will never give up on finding us. [ his gaze hardens a bit as he looks up at her. this is the most important part: ] But students won't be an issue for at least a few months.
[ the implicit statement being she has at least that long here, if she wants it. he'll take a few hours, if that's all he has; the wry lilt of his smile says as much. but he has to at least offer. ]

[The things she had done to keep up appearances, to keep up the charade. She had always wanted to be herself around Charles but even that had been with limits.
Now she braced herself for the truth and felt one hand curl into a fist even as she glanced up like she might have seen Hank hanging from the rafters.]
Can we leave dealing with him until morning? I'm not sure you're right about Hank feeling safe... [She frowned a little before she gave a shake of her head.] You know I don't actually want to put you in danger. However temporary this is, I can't do that to you.
[But her expression says otherwise. So does the sag of her shoulders because she's tired. She's tired of running and she's tired of pretending that she doesn't need him. Finally she dropped her head into his lap and moved in closer. What she wanted was a proper hug from him but their options were now limited.]
