On Your Doorstep

On Your Doorstep

They ended up on your doorstep, quite literally. Bloody, possibly. Bruised, most definitely, though the wounds may be mental. You probably don't know them from Adam, yet you couldn't find it in you to turn them away - whether they wanted you to or not. So you opened up your home, just for a little while.

But it's getting to be more than a little while. Both of you are finding a comfort zone, because you didn't simply open up your home. Admit it or don't, but you've opened up your heart all the same.

Their's is slowly following, if its reluctant at all.

1. Comment with your character, preferences, & what role you'd like to play.

2. Tag others.

3. Thread

He sniffed again, lifting a paw to properly wipe his eyes this time.

"Really? ...Christopher Robin will be able to fix it?"

"Christopher Robin can fix anything." He gave a slight smile, which for an old donkey like Eeyore might as well have been a giant grin. "Fixed me a couple of times too. Think you can still see the stitches under there."

He lifted a leg, and sure enough, there was a thin line of matching grey thread running next to a seam.

"All better, see?"

"Wow..." He whispered, looking down at the torn stitches on his front again.

"Well...I guess I'll go with you, then. But do you think...Christopher Robin's gonna tell momma what happened...?"

"I guess you'll have to ask Christopher Robin." Eeyore replied, kneeling down so it would be easier for Roo to climb on his back.

Roo carefully climbs up onto Eeyore's back, sitting close to his neck so he can wrap his arms around it.

"O-okay, I'm ready."

And off they went, toward Pooh's house, where Christopher Robin usually came to play.

"If it gets too bumpy, you can hold onto my ears." He suggested. "They don't come off the way my tail usually does."

It was a slow and steady walk through the Hundred Acre Woods. Eeyore, after all, couldn't bounce like Tigger or Rabbit. He couldn't fly like Owl or scurry like Piglet. Plus, he had precious cargo that certainly didn't need another fall.

Roo didn't mind going slowly. He was still a bit nervous, even though he knew Christopher Robin would know how to help him. After a while he leans his head over Eeyore's side, his head bouncing a bit as the donkey walks.

"So...does it hurt? ...to get fixed, I mean."

"Nope." he shook his head. "Christopher Robin's gentle as a butterfly."

That was the truth for what it was worth. After all, this was the donkey whose tail was held on by a rather loose nail.

"Kinda tickles though."

"Oh. Well, that's good. I don't think I'd mind it too much, then."

He thinks he could handle it tickling; not so much if it hurt.

When they got to Pooh's, Eeeyore found that he was right. Christopher Robin was there. He and Pooh were flying kites, and they arrived just in time to watch one get stuck in the tree.

Oh, bother indeed.

"Why, hello Eeyore. Hello Roo." the boy smiled, waving at them both. "Did you want to fly kites with us?"

"Maybe later." the donkey answered. "First, we need a little help."

He tilted his head back, gesturing to Roo to explain.

Roo looked away sheepishly at first, wringing the edge of his shirt in his paws. But eventually he had to say something, so he looked back up at Christopher Robin with his ears drooping as he explained.

"I kiiiindof...got hurt..." He mumbled, moving his arms so the boy would be able to see the long rip down his front as he continued to explain exactly how it happened.

Soon, Christopher Robin was lifting Roo off Eeeyore's back, reminding him that when a mom says no, there's usually a good reason behind it. Roo, he supposed, just learned a valuable lesson.

"You can fix him, can't you? The way you fixed me?" Eeeyore asked.

"Of course I can, Eeyore." Christopher Robin smiled. "I'll be right back with my needle and thread. And soon, everything will be good as new."

"Thank you," Roo said quietly as he sat in the boy's arms. Sometimes you had to learn lessons like these the hard way, but at least now he would be sure to listen to his mother, no matter what.
