I have loved you for a thousand years... Some say that if a pair of lovers die together in tragedy, they will get another chance when they are reborn. Even if the two of you keep losing each other, you'll get to meet again. This meme is that meeting. For the first time? For the hundredth time? That much isn't clear. What is clear is that on this, your seeming first meeting - Everything rushes back to you. Memories, emotion, and all the comes with it...including the memory of how you two died. Overwhelming, isn't it? Some people find it hard to accept, for good reason. What will you do? You can't just bring it up, they'll think you're crazy! Maybe you don't want to bring it up, as you refuse to believe it yourself. And even if you do believe it, that doesn't mean you have to embrace it. You're your own person, after all. You refuse to love someone merely because of who you were in the past. Or maybe you can't help but let these feelings rise to the surface because they're too strong. No matter what, you can't repress it. In fact, the more you two meet and spend time together, the more you find yourself falling back into the old roles...and making the old mistakes. That isn't good, though; there's one more thing. One of you, when you first met, had a vision about how the two of you would die this time. You can't let that happen. Not again. Comment with your character and your preferences. Feel free to do a modern AU of your character. Assumed CR and AUs are a must here. Don't feel obligated to stick with first meetings. Play that the characters have known each other for a while, are trying to have a relationship while trying to be their own unique selves, not having a relationship because THE PAST DOESN'T DEFINE ME, or even trying to avoid death in an adventurous fashion! The other girls warned her, early on, about the saviors. The white knights who want to save the strippers and the hookers of the world. The guys who'll pay the fee just to take a girl to dinner or to a movie, show her a little honest affection so she knows that the world isn't as bad as she's been led to believe; there are still decent people out there. It never lasts, they said, the women with their bright red mouths and tired eyes lined with black. So take what you can while you can. In the end, they'll show their true colors. Just like everyone else.

It all sounded a bit like a fairy-tale to Anne. Too good to be true. Until he came along.

He comes to her corner every third Tuesday, pays her in crisp hundred dollar bills, and then-- Nothing. He'll treat her to a bite to eat, take her to that movie she wants to see, or take her to the arcade, let her act like a teenager for once. The first few times, it burns all the way down to her bones. It's worse, somehow, than being shoved up against a damp brick wall or pushed down on worn motel sheets. At least then she's earning her pay, rather than stuffing her face on someone else's dime, or sitting stiffly on the edge of a seat at the cinema. Anne Parker was never a charity case, but it's how he makes her feel.

His name is David, or so he says, and that's about all she knows about him. He's handsome, soft-spoken, and he has never laid a finger on her.

It's Tuesday now, and she lingers on her usual corner, perched atop the bench by the bus-stop, she pretends to read a beat-up paperback she picked up from a motel room two nights ago. (She's beginning to understand why it was left behind.) Her short skirt and fish-nets aren't much protection against the chill of October and her teeth chatter in the wind. The leather jacket she wrapped around herself is thick and too big for her, and if it wasn't Tuesday she wouldn't let herself wear it. But it is Tuesday, and she has to trust that he is coming.

[It's one of their typical nights now. Occasionally they'll choose one of their apartments to go to about once a week to just hang out and chill. Tonight Shinpachi is hosting - if ordering at least one large meat lovers pizza and supplying some cheap...ish booze and popping in a cheesy action flick counts - with a bottle of beer in one hand, which he gestures toward the TV screen during a particularly large car explosion.]

Okay, okay, I get...that explosions are really cool, 'cause they are, but that car was tiny and it got driven off a cliff. Unless by some really bad luck all that metal caused a well-aimed spark, there's no way it would blow up that much.

[Point made, he takes a swig of his beer and then turns to the woman beside him.]

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong an' all, but I don't think I am.

[The woman is Asellus, someone he had just met a few months ago. Or, well, that's what he tells people, but the truth is there's a lot more to them.

A lot.

And sometimes Shinpachi can't quite meet her eyes because knowing that they were a Thing once before - and in some strange steampunk disaster - is just...kind of awkward. Even for oblivious him. But it's not all bad because Asellus is cool and someone who puts up with him, which can be a feat. And not just because she thinks he's a gullible idiot. Yeah, sure, he can be pretty thick and the fact that he regularly goes to the gym and really gets into it adds to that brawn-over-brains stereotype. But she hasn't really treated him like he's a complete idiot. They tease each other, sure, but underneath that, she's...genuine. It's nice, really.

Too nice.

Because when they met - again - he saw something else. And it's something he doesn't like to think about if he can help it. But it keeps Shinpachi from getting too friendly or rushing into things. Not that there's a lot of risk for that because he is pretty terrible when it comes to words and girls and the inevitable combination when the time is right.

Still, if what he saw is something that will come true if they go down their previous road, then maybe if he just...keeps a distance, then no one will get hurt. Friendship is fine! Friendship is great. But anything beyond that, anything that will cause him to end up dead and take an innocent person down with him...

He takes another drink and reaches toward the coffee table to start on the second pizza as a distraction. Tonight is fun. He's not going to think too hard on other things and ruin it.]
