① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.

② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?

③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.

④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!

⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.

⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.

"Of course. Come on in." Steve invited her in immediately, smiling, a little bit happy that she did take up his invitation in the end. "There's no need to 'make do' when I've got dinner pretty much cooked already." He lead the way to the kitchen, just a corner and a few steps away.

"You've got pretty good timing actually; food's almost ready. Something to drink first? I'm afraid it's only milk, juice, water or beer."

"Water is fine," she replied as she followed him. She couldn't help but let her eyes wander. It was interesting to see how Captain America kept his personal space. She gave a small smile, "Thank you for letting me crash your dinner." It was almost torture being closer to the food. "It smells good. Didn't know Captain America was a chef," she chided him.

The apartment was mostly bare, not many personal things or decorations kept out. It wasn't really 'home' to him no matter how he tried to think of it. Natasha had given him disapproving looks but hasn't said anything.

"No problem at all. I usually cook extra anyway." The table was a already set for one so he added another set of utensils to the table before dividing up the meatloaf and baked veggies onto two plates. "Captain America is used to eating in rather than out and that means learning to cook. I'm not really a chef, I just don't want to starve."

Sharon noticed how bare it was, and she felt bad for him. He must feel so out of place in this modern day. Everyone that he knew was dead, and his new companions were SHIELD agents. She couldn't imagine Steve going out for a couple drinks with some of the SHIELD agents after work.

Sharon took a seat at one of the places set on the table. She gave him a joking smile. "Must make you popular with the ladies," she said amused. She heard everything that the female agents at SHIELD said about Steve. They were definitely smitten with him. He just had to invite one of them to his place, and she suspected she would see a woman leaving his place early the next morning.

There had been few offers to go out for drinks and he'd even accepted one or two but he could tell his presence made everything awkward for everyone else so he's stopped. There's no reason he should go out and ruin everyone else's down time.

He shrugged, self-deprecatingly as he served each of them a plate of dinner. "Maybe, I wouldn't know." Steve knew there was plenty of gossip about him it was only just that gossip. Everyone seemed to be intensively interested in Captain America but not too much about Steve Rogers.

"Thank you," she said with a smile. She didn't think meatloaf could smell this good but it did. Either Steve was a good cook or she was really hungry. She picked up her fork and cut the meatloaf into smaller pieces. She looked up at him, "You don't really go out, do you?" she asked.

Sharon had work too but she at least made time to visit her aunt and sometimes go out with other female agents. The list of agents she would interact with were very small. She'd taken a liking to Maria Hill. It seemed like Steve lead a lonelier life then she did. And that was saying something. "D.C. is suppose to have a great club scene," she said, refraining from laughing at the mental image in her head of Captain America at a club.

Meatloaf was something he made often. It was an easy recipe, required no special ingredients and easily kept for leftover for up to a few days. He speared a broccoli with his forked and popped it into his mouth, considering Sharon's question.

"Not really. D.C. has some nice galleries and museums. And there's the local library as well." He didn't mention the national monuments which Natasha had dragged him to the first week he'd moved to D.C., the two of them playing 'tourist'. All of the places he listed were easily visited as a single person. "People don't really dance like the way I remember." The entire hug-and-sway way of dancing as he'd heard it described wasn't what he preferred.

Sharon poked a piece of broccoli with her fork, and put it in her mouth. After swallowing she said, "Those things sound like something you do by yourself. What do you do for socializing? Don't tell me I'm the only person you talk to outside of work." If he knew the truth, he'd realize SHIELD basically was in his life 24/7.

She is starting to think the elderly have more of a social life then Steve. Every time she visits her aunt the dining hall is filled with seniors playing Bingo. "I'll tell you one place you'll have to try, and that's Georgetown Cupcakes. Best cupcakes you'll find in DC."

He took a bite out of the meatloaf next. It didn't turn out too bad at all, though it could probably use a bit more spices. Steve shrugged again, letting his eyes drop down to the dinner plate. Social life? It was pretty much non-existent. Steve Rogers has never been good with talking to people and seventy years in the ice did not help with that at all.

"I'll have to remember that one. Thanks." He likes cupcakes. The decorations were more wildly varied now with all colours of the rainbow used but for the most part they haven't changed. "If you have a chance to visit Brooklyn I can recommend a really good cafe."

Sharon smiled in response to him. "If I ever go to Brooklyn, I'll make sure to ask you what places I should go to." She had to admit she felt very comfortable eating dinner with him. Most of the time she just thought of him as Captain America, her assignment. He was someone she found herself being at ease with, and she couldn't determine if she liked that or not.

"So what have you seen since you moved to D.C.?" she asked him as she took another bite of her meatloaf.

This impromptu dinner hasn't been quite as awkward as he'd been afraid of. Despite propaganda about his speech making he's always been rather socially awkward with people. Or perhaps it's because this was impromptu that things were going light and easy so far. And it helped that she as treating him rather normally than as only Captain America.

"The usual tourist things like the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian, and all the art museums I can find." He doesn't get to do as much sketching as he likes nowadays but at least he can still look at other people's art.

She was learning alot about him tonight. She just knew everything that was mentioned in the museum. Also, she did know some things that were in his SHIELD file but it didn't go into personal details. "You really like art, then." It almost felt surreal that she was having dinner with Captain America and having a normal conversation. Once you get past being star-struck by him. He was a normal, every day guy.

"Yeah. It was a hobby. Occasionally I'd submit a comic or two to the local newspapers but that didn't go anywhere." He still drew sometimes, even if not as much as before. Sometimes there didn't seem to be much of a point but then he'd look at his half empty sketchbook and feel guilty, then pick up a pencil again.

Steve poked at a bit of meatloaf idly on his plate before eating more steadily again.

Sharon didn't expect to learn that Steve was an artist. "I'd like to see some of your drawings...I mean, if you have any," she said earnestly. It was interesting to see this other side to Captain America. She was slightly jealous that there was more to him then just being Captain America.

Sharon focused all her attention on proving herself at SHIELD. She looked up to her Aunt Peggy so much, and tried her best to be just like her. In her ambitions to be like her aunt, she barely focused on discovering her own interests.

Steve smiled and dropped his head. "I have a few, but they're not really much good. Out of practice and all that. I was mostly self-taught." Sometimes he thought about seeing if there was any formal lessons out there for people like him. "Some day I'd like to try paints. I never could afford them...before."

He doesn't draw as much as he used to, not when it sometimes made him brood too much for his past.

Sharon had to admit to herself that he was really adorable when he was being humble. She finished up the rest of her meatloaf. "I'm sure they aren't that bad," she said with a smile. "I can't wait to see them." There was a brief pause before she said her next words, "After I clean the dishes." After all, it is the least she could do. She got a free meal out of this. She didn't want to take advantage of Steve's good nature, She would feel guilty if she didn't do something for him in return.

By the time Sharon had finished her meal so had Steve, and he's began to pile up the plates and utensils. "Trust me, there's lots better out there than a 90 year old fella playing at being an artist." He wanted to object, and say that she's a guest but he could tell she was going to insist on this one, especially after the reluctance to even just come over and have dinner.

"If you insist."

"At least you look great for your age," she teased. Okay, it was not in her assignment to flirt with Captain America. She took the dirty plates and utensils and headed to the kitchen. "It's the least I can do since you made dinner," she said over her shoulder with a smile. Sharon placed them in the sink and turned the water and looked for the soap so she could wash them.

"You might say I got my full share of beautysleep and more." Steve shrugged with an easy smile and followed her to the kitchen, snagging a dishcloth on the way. If she was going to wash, at least he could dry the dishes.

"Dishsoap's underneath the sink." He's not fond of the scent of chemical dishsoap but it really was more convenient than the hard bars of stuff he used to use in the forties.

Sharon had to give a small laugh at his statement. She bent down to look under the sink, and it was right at the front. She grabbed it and stood back up. She looked over at him, "You don't have to dry," she stated. She started washing one of the plates. But she knew Steve was just as stubborn as she was so after washing the plate she hands it to him. Sharon was a little unsure what she should say to make conversation. "So, you like reading, drawing and visiting museums. Any other interests?"

"I actually do. I'll feel awkward if you're doing all the work and I'm just standing around looking useless." Steve answered as he picked up a dishcloth and started to dry the clean wet dishes one by one as they were handed to him. "I have a list I'm making and crossing out one by one. Of things I should watch, listen or otherwise catch up to. What about you? What do you like to do in your free time?"

Him? Awkward? Why that never happens! Truth be told, while on this assignment of watching Captain America, she could tell when he wasn't out saving the world, he was a different person. He had awkward moments and Sharon sometimes felt bad for him, but at the same time thought he looked adorable when he was. Sharon couldn't help but smile when he mentioned his list.

"As you can imagine, being a nurse means I keep strange hours and really don't have much free time," she replied to his question as she finished up the dishes. "But it seems we both like to read in our spare time. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is really good, if you're into mysteries."

Steve carefully put away the clean dishes before laying out the dishcloth to dry on the counter as he usually did. "I am! I enjoyed the novels by Agatha Christie...there were new ones out I didn't catch earlier. But I'll put Gillian Flynn on the list as well...I'll get through it all eventually."

He smiled and leaned back against the counter. "Got any music recs for me then since we're at it?"

"Well, depends on what your tastes are. Not sure what they had back in your day, it's pretty different nowadays. I really like Adele, just the way that she sings. It's very soulful," replied Sharon. She thought to herself that Steve might like Lana Del Ray. Sharon wasn't in to alot of rock and roll or pop music. Most of her ipod consisted of ballads and some a capella tracks. "I should make you a playlist," she offered. "Do you have an iPod?"

Steve smiled nostalgically. "I used to sneak in to the jazz clubs with..." He paused for a moment then continued. "...with a friend. That probably gives you a clue of what I like." A few of his fellow agents at SHIELD had suggested a few of their favourite heavy metal and rock pieces but on the whole he wasn't fond of them. "I do actually. Hang on a second."

The ipod had been a gift, ostensibly for him to listen to music when he took his daily jogs but usually he preferred to concentrate on his surroundings instead.
