Sometimes all you need is a word to spark off an idea.

[ He orders another drink -- something clear and fizzy -- but he leaves it untouched for the moment. ]

So, Vault Hunters. That what your last team called themselves?

[ Maya's... not too much of a drinker, and she's about hit her limit. She's not sure of what someone with her abilities would be capable of while drunk, and she's not keen to find out. ]

Let's back it up for a second- have you ever heard of Pandora? The Vaults? Hyperion, Handsome Jack?

But hey, just to make sure we're on the same page, why don't you explain all of those things as if I were an idiot.

[ That Look is back, the slow arching of an eyebrow as she wonders if he really is for real. ]

Pandora started out as a mining planet, most of the companies used prisoners as workers, and when the mining dried up and the companies pulled out, they left their workers behind. It's a planet full of murderers, bandits and psychopaths. But then rumors of the Vaults came around- left behind by an alien race known as Eridians, and told to contain treasure beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

So people went looking for these Vaults, and became, appropriately enough, known as Vault Hunters.

The opening of the first Vault led to the discovery of a rare element known as Eridium, and that was when the Hyperion Corporation, headed by the King Jackass himself, Handsome Jack, took over the planet and began tearing it apart in search of more Vaults.

He even put out a call for more Vault Hunters to "help" him look. He stuck us all on a train and blew it to hell. Only me and five others walked away from that crash.

That's putting it lightly. The man was a maniac, egotistical, murderous, and completely convinced he was in the right.

In what world does blowing up a train help anyone? 'Cause I'm not seein' the benefits.

[ incredulously, ] Even though he hired you?

He didn't think we were much better than common crooks. "Hiring" us was just an excuse to get us on that train.

[ Peter huffs a breath. ] Sounds like a prick. I hope you paid him back in kind for your troubles.

Sure did. [ her grin has a little bit of a wicked edge to it ]

[oh, Peter has practically grown up on those types of smiles, but when he returns it it lacks the same edge. ] Cheers.

[ Sipping at his drink, a thought occurs to him. ] What made you leave your team, and should I be concerned for mine?

We found the Vault and beat the bad guy. [ she shrugs ] I'm still looking for answers about my heritage, and I didn't find any on Pandora.

Have you got any leads? Maybe the team can give you a hand.

All I know is that Sirens are somehow connected to Eridium, which is connected to the Eridians. If I could find them, maybe I could get some answers.

Tracking down an illusive race of aliens? Can't be too hard, right? I mean, it's an entire race.

Easier said than done. No one's seen in Eridian in thousands of years.

[ Maya has no idea how that stuff works don't even go there, Peter. ]

Hey, no big deal. There wouldn't be any shame in it, happens to the best of 'em, yadda, yadda, yadda. [ And he waves a hand vaguely, grinning. ]
