[Distraction, distraction, distraction... Loki could use some distraction, after the week-- month-- whatever-- he's had, and the all-night party of Mardi Gras is just what the proverbial doctor ordered.

He doesn't belong, any more than he does anywhere these days, but he doesn't think he stands out too much, either; after all, who's going to pay any mind to yet another pretty young thing in gold and glitter and a king's ransom in plastic beads?

(No really, he's known actual kings he could have ransomed with this stuff; what has value varies wildly through time and space.)

It's easy to move with the crowd, let the pulse of music and laughter carry him along, to forget his nightmares for a little while... Until he bumps into someone.]

[Cecil had always talked about Carlos on the radio, from the very first day. It was weird, but oddly comforting. So the whole town called him "The Scientist" - was that so bad? It made Carlos feel like he already had a place in town. And sure, his team of scientists teased about it. A lot. Especially when the Host would wax poetic about hair, of all things. But it became part of the normal office banter. A crush was human, normal (and easier to talk about then most other things in Night Vale.)

Then Carlos and Cecil started dating. Which was the optimal outcome! Of course it was! Cecil's kind and funny and Carlos still isn't sure how he ended up so lucky.

But... Cecil's still talking about him. About them. About things that are... personal. Okay, so all of Night Vale now knows how loud the scientist chews. Is that such a big deal? Of course not. Which is why Carlos is absolutely not thinking about it. At all.

He is not at all being weirdly quiet. This is just thinking! It's what a scientist does!]
