You could've fooled me with some of them.
[at least now he was communicating. Even if it was only through counter teasing. But they were both pretending to be normal.
He placed his hands in his pockets and looked back up at the sky. He'd never seen something like this... He'd heard about Sozen's comet, and part of him wondered if this was the same, but the other part was too busy focusing on how weird the night was.]

nyeeeeehhhhhh.
that sure is the avatar sticking her tongue out at you, mako. ]

Doesn't mean I can't call it like I see it.
[he's just slowly raising an eyebrow at her for sticking her tongue out. But, he doesn't actually call her out on that. But he does sit back down at the grass]
Now, are you gonna make jokes or watch the meteor shower?

[ said teasingly as she drops down next to him, folding her knees up and resting her crossed elbows on top of them. with her head tipped back, korra observes the meteor shower, letting the weight of the universe settle down onto her shoulders once more. this time, it's not to utilize it but to enjoy it, appreciate it, realize she's part of this grand universe despite her title and her power and that she can be just a girl who enjoys the wonders of nature and spirits.
... and also...
the comfortable silence that falls between her and someone she hopes never to lose, regardless of her own splintered feelings on the subject of their relationship.
after a few minutes pass, she has to shatter that comfortable silence because now there's a different sort of weight on her chest, one that has nothing to do with the universe at large but rather the universe within herself. ]
... Mako.

And it was nice to enjoy it with Korra, their bumps aside. He'd taken some solace in that comfort, but then she called his name, and he looked down from the sky, straight at her]
Yeah...?
[he got a hint of seriousness from her tone, but he didn't mimic that in his expression, for once in his life.]

silence greets his question—she wants to talk but words are sticky and awkward, and she fumbles through them. actions are more her style. actions speak for her.
so she doesn't warn mako before she grabs him by the collar, pressing her mouth to his in another kiss, one she means to give him this time, hand twisting in his coat and scarf, not letting him pull away. ]

There's less of an instinctual reaction to kiss back this time-- just as Korra knew what was happening, so did he. He wants to, but it takes a moment for him to throw caution to the wind.
He never, ever said he was good at emotions. Just good at putting them aside when he really needed to, but Korra had a bad habit of pulling him right back into her. He's waiting for the kiss to reach a natural end-- she didn't even really need to hold him in place.]

she knows this can't last, but she's also been very, very good at living in the moment, and there's no hesitation when she pushes mako back just a enough to facilitate climbing into his lap, grinding her hips down against him, pushing immediately into dangerous territory. one hand tugs at his hair while the other pulls at her wolftail, removing the clip and dropping it to the side so that her hair slips and falls down in waves to her shoulders. ]

He kissed her hard for one brief moment before pulling back enough to at least allow words to form. That in and of itself was a feat]
Korra... [she might have been able to keep going, but he needed to catch his breath. But now that he could speak, he almost didn't want to. He locked his eyes on hers, but those words weren't coming, not with her weight, her breath, all over him. It was too hard to think]
Should we do this...?
no subject
even if she didn't want to think this through.
her fingers tighten on his coat, knees digging into the ground beneath her, suddenly aware of everything and everywhere that his body touches hers. her throat tight, korra takes in a gulp of night air and turns her eyes down. ]
... No. [ shouldn't. ...but. ] But I want to.

So much for that.
But this was a one time opportunity, to see a meteor shower. And he didn't want to spend it alone, even if one thing led to this. He leaned forward to kiss her forehead, a sentimental gesture that was easier for him than putting words to his feelings.
They could regret it in the morning.]
Okay.

the word is shocking enough to korra that she leans back to look at mako eye-to-eye, shapely eyebrows lifting to illustrate her surprise. of all the things she was expecting mako to say, an acquiesce to her request wasn't one of them. not that it was much of a request, simply stating what was on her mind and in her heart instead of letting a silly thing like logic into her head.
it's all she needs to push forward; she doesn't question it. instead she dives down for another kiss, messing her hands in mako's hair, grasping those dark strands as she pushes herself more insistently against him, grinding her hips against mako's again to feel him through their clothes. a gasp fills her mouth, her throat, her lungs, almost like she's trying to draw in the cosmos itself before her mouth stamps a pathway along mako's jawline and to his neck. she remembers very well how sensitive he is there, so it's there she'll linger—trapping skin gently between her teeth and sucking at the warmth. ]

He closed his eyes. Just lie back and think of Republic City.
But he said yes, and if you're gonna make a mistake, you may as well go all the way, right? His hands went from the ground up into her hair, threading through it and pulling out her hair ornaments. His fingers pull out the strands, combing through the tangles before trailing down her back, along her sides and pulling her shirt up to create a space between her pants and her skin]

which is just to let mako do what he wants because it's invariably what korra wants him to do.
instead she drags her mouth back across his jawline and to his lips again, drawing him into one more breathless kiss as her hand covers his, pulling it out from underneath her shirt and transferring it quickly to her chest. she leans into his palm, a hot breath slipping out because her curves, the soft parts of her, are always more sensitive than her muscle tone. ]

He could still back out, realistically.
But he wasn't going to. It just wasn't going to happen. And so instead, he opened his mouth to her, both allowing her closer and pushing the limits in his own way. He opens his hand, and then closes it around her breast, his palm pressing hard against her curves, knowing the feeling was blunted by her shirt to some extent. His hand was still curled in her hair, and he didn't feel like lowering it, not yet. She was clearly leading this.
And he just wanted to enjoy the taste of her lips for a moment]

she was too selfish and too stressed to appreciate it before, and feeling that realization bubble up within her causes tears to sting at the back of her eyes. but mako's hands, warm as they slide over her, don't let her dwell on that for too long, pulled back to the moment, the heat of him against her, the barrier of their clothes. another breath leaves her and this time she pushes a hand against mako's chest to get his back on the ground. to her left naga whines and sits herself fully down, but korra pays no more attention to her best friend as she strips herself of her shirt. ]
