[ anything you wish my love. also, apologies that i've been absent so long. i finally have finished finals so this is my first time on in a few weeks, i feel awful but i had so much stress and work to deal with that i had to just focus on that. i'm going to be getting to our replies first and foremost from our previous tags, if you're still interested of course! ]

[ooc: don't worry about it! real life has to come first. take as much time as you need and feel free to keep tagging the old stuff too. i guess i'll RNG this and see what happens, lol.]

[Twilight had fallen, cloaking the land in a pale grey darkness that was slowly growing darker. The forest had an eerie feeling about it even on the brightest of days - at night that feeling simply multiplied tenfold. Most of the time, people kept away from it, making it a good place to go if you didn't particularly want to be found.]

[Hoofbeats pounded hard into the softening earth, echoing through the trees rumbling like thunder. The horse was a massive and muscular brute, and under the moon's light his eyes seemed to glow red as he raced through the trees. His rider used no saddle or blanket, choosing simply to ride bareback.]

[But all in all it was an eerie visage: An immense black horse thundering through the forest with a rider cloaked in black, face hidden by a hood.]

[The horse whipped around a set of trees - only to find that they were not alone. There was another in the forest, and had he not stopped so suddenly and reared with a loud whinny, he would probably have run her straight over. But he did stop, front feet kicking in the air even as he stumbled back with his hind legs. The rider, skilled enough, clung tight to the reins and managed to keep from being flung off the horse.]

[That little tidbit that the forest was a good place to go for those who didn't particularly want to be found was precisely why Jasmine had wandered there in the first place that night. Her and her father had gotten into another heated argument, and she absolutely needed to get away from him for a little while to cool off her anger.

Her father had no idea Jasmine went into the forest when she wanted to get away, and she intended to keep it that way. The eerie landscape didn't scare her- in fact, the sounds of crickets chirping and a light wind rustling the leaves of the trees is soothing.

But the sound of hoofbeats pounding into the ground nearby is not. Jasmine gasps when the horse rears up in front of her, stumbling back and nearly falling in the process. Her heart is racing as she looks up at the hooded rider, eyes wide.]

[The horse finally settles on all four hooves again, whipping his mane vigorously and stomping his feet. Clearly he did not enjoy his run being interrupted. His rider tilted its head to the side, which was rather unsettling considering the hood cast a shadow over the face. But a hand came up and slowly pulled the hood back to reveal the identity of the rider: A woman, with long dark hair that fell in waves down her back. She tilted a brow at the other woman on foot.]

Don't usually see people out here this late - you're a strange one.

[It's said in the best possible humor, the smile on the rider's face tells that much. She reaches down and gently rubs the horse's thick neck to soothe him and stop his stomping. Then she glances up to the other woman again.]

Scare you, did he?

[Jasmine holds a hand over her chest, feeling her heart still pounding as she tries to get over the shock of nearly being bowled over and trampled by a huge horse. Fortunately, the rider seems friendly enough when she reveals herself, and she lets out a quiet sigh of relief.]

I don't make a habit of it.

[But now that she's calming down, Jasmine can appreciate the horse for the beautiful creature it is. She never sees horses around Storybrooke, and this one is magnificent.]

Surprised me. [She tilts her head as she looks up at the rider.] I don't think I've ever met you before.

[Alleyne shrugs, moving her hand up to tussle the horse's mane. He flicks his ears a bit, but otherwise becomes more preoccupied with the grass alongside the path.]

Give him an apple sometime, he'll warm up to you.

[He wasn't the friendliest horse in creation, but he loved apples.]

We haven't - not that I can recall anyway.

[She gives a slight chuckle, wondering what kind of reaction she'll get.]

Name's Alleyne, but most folks call me the ah- [With a smirk she makes a quick slashing motion with one finger across her throat.] Headless Horseman.

And you are-?

I'll be sure to bring one next time.

[for now Jasmine refrains from touching the horse's mane, as she would like to do. No need to cause unnecessary trouble.

But then she hears exactly who this is. Instead of appearing fearful, Jasmine just appears confused. She doesn't know Alleyne's tale, not from Agrabah, and is rather puzzled.]

I'm Jasmine. But... you have a head, and you aren't a man. Do you pretend back home? [She can relate to wanting to pretend to be something one is not.]

Yeah well, if I went around calling myself 'The Headless Horsewoman' people would more likely think I was some crazy lady who loved horses.

[Her horse pauses in his munching to blow a loud snort through his nose, as if taking exception to that.]

Besides, the term 'Horsewoman' doesn't really roll off the tongue as nicely.

And as for the headless part? Well...

[Alleyne nervously runs a finger under the black ribbon tied around her neck, glancing away from Jasmine and off between the trees. There was a scar hidden under that ribbon - but one that was not easily spotted.]

That's a story better told over a drink.

[Jasmine can understand that point. Women aren't nearly as well-respected as men where she comes from, so taking on the name "horseman" would help if she wanted that respect. It's not a choice she's going to question farther than that.]

Oh... I would invite you for one, but I... well, I fought with my father, and he'll have people looking for me in town. He's a very influential man.

[And he's incredibly overprotective. Once she returns home, another fight will start almost immediately, she's sure.]

Unless I could borrow your cloak?

[Women aren't as well-respected as men anywhere if you ask Alleyne's opinion.]

And I'd invite you to my place but somehow I think I'd judge your intelligence if you just agreed to go to the home of some random stranger who rides around in the wilderness in the middle of the night on the big black horse.

[But the request makes her smirk. Alleyne reaches up and unclips the cloak, shrugging out of it before handing it down to Jasmine.]

It's a bit big, even on me. Make sure you pull the hem up a bit so that you don't trip over it. Still, seems like an awful long walk back to town.

[Alleyne keeps her hand outstretched, offering a lift up.]

[She laughs at that, shaking her head before accepting the cloak.]

I'm sure your home is lovely, but I think I'd prefer to sneak into town.

[The cloak is large on her, just as Alleyne said, but it's warm and comfortable as well. On the downside, it makes climbing onto the horse a bit more difficult, even with some assistance. She wears a sheepish smile by the time she's up there, which is luckily not in Alleyne's view.]

It's been a long time since I've ridden a horse. I miss it.

Hold tight - this horse runs faster than any other; in Storybrooke or in the Enchanted Forest.

[She tugs the reins, pulling the horse's attention from the grass before kicking hard against his sides. The horse takes off, thundering through the forest at top speed.]

[Alleyne clings tight to the reins, only loosening her grip when they reach town. The horse only slows when they reach The Rabbit Hole.]

[She takes that advice and holds on tightly to the other woman, grinning as the horse indeed runs faster than any she's ever ridden before.

It's a shame when the ride has to end.

Jasmine lets the cloak's hood fall off her head as they enter the bar, suspecting she'd draw more attention inside with it up. Her father is unlikely to suspect her hiding out here, so Jasmine isn't too worried about being caught in this location.]

We need to do that again sometime!

[Alleyne laughs before hopping off the horse's back, again reaching up to help Jasmine down - considering that Alleyne rides almost every day and Jasmine herself admitted that it had been a while since she rode, Alleyne figured she would need the help.]

Well, he doesn't seem to totally dislike you - so you're more than welcome anytime!

[She was a little worried about him bucking Jasmine off, but the horse behaved himself very well! Alleyne gave a low whistle once Jasmine was clear and the horse trotted off.]

Don't worry, he'll come back when I whistle for him.

[Alleyne then turns to the bar and smiles before entering.]

This place has the best whiskey around. [Then again, she hadn't really been any farther than Storybrooke, no one had.]

[She does appreciate the assistance, even if she doesn't say anything about it out loud. A bit too proud to admit even with the amount of time gone by, she might need help dismounting a horse. Granted, it is an unusually large horse.]

Thank you. [Jasmine watches the horse trot off before turning her attention back to the issue at hand. That is... drinks. Admittedly, she hasn't really had anything short of wine before, and her father would likely be outraged if he knew she was out drinking with someone right now, particularly after their fight.]

I've never had whiskey. Should I try it?

Well that depends...

[Alleyne takes a seat at a darker corner of the bar where they'll be less likely to draw attention, seeing as Jasmine wanted to stay out of sight.]

What do you usually drink? ...err, do you drink at all?

I drink wine... sometimes.

[She appreciates the caution, and slips onto one of the seats facing away from the entrance to the bar. Just in case.]

I don't really get out much.

[Alleyne chuckles before catching the bartender's attention and ordering two drinks: Whiskey in a rocks glass for Alleyne and a shot glass for Jasmine.]

Drink it quick - don't let it touch your tongue for too long; first time 'n all.

[Alleyne however, takes a long sip of her own drink.]

[Jasmine grimaces a little when she sniffs the whiskey, but hey, trying new things is always good. ...Almost always.

She coughs after downing the shot, a look of disgust clear on her face.]

Why would anyone want to drink this?

[Alleyne can't help but laugh at her reaction. She takes a long sip, finishing off her glass before pushing it to the bartender.]

When they have things they want to forget, or that they'd rather not think about.

It has a way of numbing pain, if only a moment.

[Her finger rubs at the ribbon around her neck again.]

You sure you wanna' know why they call me headless?

I do have plenty of those.

[Mainly, her father's constant insistence that she marry someone soon. But... in the face of someone who is known as 'headless', that certainly seems like a small, petty concern.]

If you're willing to share.

[Alleyne doesn't really compare the problems of others to hers unless it's in humor - she's a willing listener.]

[But, with a sigh she begins her tale, gesturing for the bartender to refill her glass.]

So, once upon a time I made it my business to ride through the Enchanted Forest. I could predict death in families who asked it of me, and for others, I could help them speak to the dead.

[For a less-than-modest fee, of course.]

Enter her Royal Evil-ness, Regina. She approaches me one day in the forest and demands that I use my magic to bring back her beloved.

[Alleyne takes a moment to look at Jasmine in the most solemn seriousness.]

If you learn nothing else from this tale, learn this: There's not a spell in the world that can bring the dead back to life.

[There's a pause before she continues.]

I told the Queen this...she refused to believe me, and when I refused again - [She reaches up, pulling down the black ribbon around her neck to show the scar that wraps around her throat.] - she cut off my head and sewed a new one back on.

[Jasmine gasps when she sees the scar around Alleyne's throat. That, coupled with the story... everyone already knows that Regina is a monster, but this is incredible horrific.]

That must have been so terrible.

[And that's an understatement. How Regina even managed that, Jasmine can only guess.]

No wonder you want to drink.

Well it wasn't fun, that's for sure.

[There's a slight chuckle in her voice as Alleyne speaks. Then she reaches for her glass and takes another sip.]

So that's about the size of it - Regina has my real head somewhere, and if I want to be really free again, I'll have to find it.

What about you? What's your story?

I'm assuming it's back home.

[No magic would've preserved it here for all of those years. But just thinking about it, how horrible it must be to be forced to wear a head that isn't your own.]

Otherwise I would help you find it.

[She sighs at the question.] I'm a princess in my kingdom, and before we arrived here my father was trying to force me to marry. Now that we have our memories back, he's at it again.

If the bitch didn't destroy it completely...

[Alleyne tilts a brow at Jasmine's reply.]

See now, I don't get that. How can he force you to get married? He can't make the words 'I do' come out of your mouth.

But that begs the question: Why is he forcing you to get married? What's the point?

He's the Sultan.

[She shrugs a little while idly moving the shot glass around in little circles on the tabletop.]

I've rejected everyone he's brought around so far, but I don't know if he'll let it be for much longer. He says he needs to make sure there's someone to take care of me once he's gone.

[If it wasn't obvious that women were looked down upon in Agrabah before, it definitely should be now.]

[Cue eye roll.]

Why do men think we need to have them around? We can take care of ourselves! I've done just fine throughout the course of my life without a man around!

[Though one could argue that posing as a man counts as having a man around. Alleyne finishes her drink and slams the glass down against the bar.]

So he's the Sultan. What can he possibly do to you if you keep refusing suitors? Surely he wouldn't kill you over it...would he?

Living here in Storybrooke has really opened my eyes to how other women live. I don't think I'd want to go back even if I could.

[Even with her father hassling her again, there's not much he can do here. He doesn't have the sort of power he has back home.]

Of course not. He would just choose one for me.

[Which... is not much better, in her opinion.]

Okay, so he picks one for you. Again I say, short of twisting your arm he can't make you say those two little words that make a marriage real.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm all for marriage and companionship. I just don't think it should be forced. You can't create an emotion like love. It's a natural thing.

I guess I don't get how your father can be happy marrying you off if it means you'll be unhappy.

I wish it worked the same way back there as it does here.

[She shrugs, leaning back in the booth with an discomforted expression. It's hard for the women here to understand her predicament, and she wishes her father would just understand and leave her be.]

Have you ever found someone you love?

There are definite advantages to being here - that's probably why not everyone wants to go back.

[The second question catches her a bit off guard. She swirls the remnants of her drink in the bottom of her glass.]

...men are usually pretty put off by the big black horse and cloak. The big knife and association with death is usually a pretty big turn-off too.

So...no...I haven't really.

[She could see where that would be a problem. In her experience, men want dainty, quiet women who keep their eyes down and do as they're told. Hence why she hasn't even been able to find anyone who wants to marry her, her own distaste to marry for anything but love aside.]

Why don't you look for someone here? They might see you differently.

They might. Or they might try to change me, make me into the girly princess that every man secretly wants-

[There's bitterness in her tone, but then she remembers Jasmine's story and blushes a bit in embarrassment. She glances up a bit sheepishly.]

...Sorry...didn't mean any offense.

It's just...I've never really thought about it. But I could ask the same of you: Instead of just meeting the suitors your father throws in your face, why don't you try meeting someone? That way you could get your happy ending and your father wouldn't be able to argue.

Isn't there anyone here who catches your fancy?

[Jasmine shakes her head at the apology. She doesn't take offense.] No... you're right. That does seem to be what they all want.

[At least, that's what all of her suitors wanted. No prince seems to care for a woman who actually speaks her mind.]

Back home the only way I can leave the palace is if I sneak over the walls. And that isn't really the best way to meet someone. [Yet, anyway.]

Here? I don't know... I guess I need to get out more, huh?

Heh, maybe that's what we both need.

[But she feels sympathy for Jasmine - for the most part she's able to ride through the Enchanted Forest as she pleases, she doesn't need to sneak around or get permission.]

But, you meet people in the strangest ways sometimes - we should be shining examples of that.

[She laughs a bit, because how many people could say they met because they nearly ran over a princess in the woods?]

Maybe it is.

[Likewise, Jasmine feels sympathy for Alleyne. Even with her added freedom, the story of what happened to her head... it's frightening to say the least.]

You're right. [She chuckles, still toying with the empty shot glass in front of her.] I'm glad we met, even if you almost gave me a heart attack.

Me too - And my horse seems to like you so I figure you're okay. He usually doesn't like other people.

[She runs a finger along the rim of her rocks glass.]

Could be because we're a bit similar - at least in mindset anyway, if nothing else.

So, does your father let you out of the house to see friends? Or do you sneak out here too?

I work here as a veterinarian, so maybe he knows I'm good with animals.

[Err... well, this is probably not the most appropriate time to answer, considering she had to sneak here with a cloak and keeps looking out for anyone who might be searching for her. But she did run off into the forest... though her father didn't know that.]

Ordinarily I can leave during the day without a problem.

[And then, a bit embarrassed] I don't really have any friends.

[Alleyne tilts a brow at that.]

What do you call me?

[Then again, Alleyne's never really had friends before herself, so she's one to talk.]

[She stares at Alleyne for a moment, and then lets out a brief laugh while running a hand through her hair. Now she's even more embarrassed, but admittedly, pleased as well to think that she does have a friend. It only took a random, unusual encounter to finally discover one.]

I guess we are friends now.

[So that argument with her father was actually good for something. How unusual.]

That means you can't stay hidden out in the woods. You need to remember to come visit me.

I don't hide in the woods, I go out there and ride because there's no risk of running into people....or that's what my theory was anyway.

[There's a pause before Alleyne bursts out laughing. But she really is glad that they met.]

So wait, does that entail coming to your house and potentially meeting your father?

[That'll be a fun introduction...]

You never know around here.

[She grins, watching Alleyne laugh.]

It might. Don't worry, he'd be pleasant to you as long as you don't tell him how we met.

Or that you took me to a bar.

[Jasmine could say they met at her work. It's probably the only thing he wouldn't object to, really.]

Or as long as I keep the whole headless thing to myself.

[It's plausible - she has a horse that needs caring for, and she doesn't always have the proper medicine for him.]

Don't want to scare the old man to death, after all.

Really, it might be best not to speak to him at all.

[She muses, when a waiter comes by and asks if they want more drinks. Jasmine orders a glass of wine this time, preferring to have something with which she is familiar.]

I do love my father, I just... wish he wasn't so overbearing.

Probably - but sooner or later I assume it's going to be unavoidable.

[Alleyne orders another whiskey, not anxious to be drunk, but she's been drinking it so long it takes a lot to get her drunk anyway.]

That often seems the case with parents. To their minds, they only wish to protect their children, and often don't see that their overprotective senses are crushing the will of those they love.

But it often reverses itself as the parents age - the children then become to ones who are overprotective.

Maybe. Unfortunately, he takes it to an extreme.

[She sighs, resting her head in one hand.]

Sometimes I wonder if I should pretend to have found somebody while we're here, just to make him leave me alone.

[If she could find someone willing to play along. That might... prove more difficult.]

I'm certainly game for it, I'd back you up. While we're at it we can say we double dated.

[There's a longing in her voice that almost suggests that she had been less than honest before.]

Though, that might make him less likely to enjoy you sharing my company.

...Or I suppose we could do the crazy thing at some point and actually do try and meet men. Then again it seems that every guy in this town, or prince - if you will, seems to have a match all lined up.

[Double dated? Such a foreign concept, since she'd never dated before, nor really had any friends who would have dated to make that happen. It does sound like it would be an enjoyable time.]

Maybe. [another sigh] He'd probably think you were corrupting me.

[Meet men? Jasmine wouldn't even know how to begin.]

It seems hopeless, but I guess I'd be willing to try if you were.

[Alleyne gives a soft chuckle.]

He'd probably be right. Agents of death don't make the best role models in creation.

It's not even necessarily something we have to do. It can just be a matter of we go out, have a good time doing whatever our pretty little hearts desire. And, if perchance we just happen to meet men, well, lucky us!

And it's not hopeless, you're gorgeous! I'm sure it'll only take a time or two going out and having fun for people to get to know you.

[She glances over her shoulder and around the bar.]

Ahh...maybe this place isn't the best one to meet people...the folks in here tend to be a bit rough around the edges...

((Long time, no see. 5?))

[Well hello. That sounds wonderful.]

[Catherine has spent the past few weeks trying to decide how to celebrate their upcoming anniversary appropriately. Rose petals scattered along the floor leading to a candlelit bedroom had seemed overly romantic. Just a quiet dinner between the two of them, overly simple. She prizes her creativity, and so decides to go the extra mile to make the night especially memorable. It's been a while since the Scarecrow has left his imprint on Gotham, so she's made arrangements for his toxin to be dispersed throughout the city on the night of their wedding anniversary; her gift to him for all they've shared together so far.

She flops down on the couch, content with her plans. What Jonathan wishes to do amidst the screams of a terrified Gotham is up to him. As long as her gift pleases him, she's happy. She looks over at the clock by the T.V.. It's almost 9p.m., only five minutes to go...]

((Sorry about dropping our other threads. Time kind of got away from me, and I wasn't sure if you'd want to do any PSL stuff with Catherine or not.))

[Jonathan had left Catherine flowers when he left their apartment earlier in the afternoon, but hadn't been back since then. When he returns with a bottle of champagne just before nine he finds her sprawled on the couch. He chuckles a little as he sets the bottle on the side table and shrugs off his coat.]

Good evening, darling. Happy anniversary.

[He moves to sit next to her and puts an arm around her shoulders before kissing her on the cheek.]

Do you have plans for tonight, or do I have you all to myself?

((No worries! Time gets away from all of us. I've been a little scarce myself lately.))

[Catherine had lovingly tended the flowers, arranging them in a crystal blue vase and placing them on her bedside table. Now she rearranges herself so her head is in his lap, comfortably resting on his thighs.]

Happy anniversary, my love.

[She reaches up to lightly stroke his cheek with her fingertips.]

I don't have plans, per se, but I do have a surprise for you. We just have to wait a few more minutes...

[She gives him a devious grin, but no more details. He'll just have to be patient. She's hoping it will put him in the mood to enjoy that champagne and some romancing as well.]

[When Catherine shifts in his lap Jonathan smiles down at her and rests one hand on her stomach. He lets his other arm drape along the back of the couch. He turns his head into her touch, unable to keep a grin off his face.

He does, however, quirk an eyebrow at her comment.]

A surprise? If it's what I think it might be, why do we have to wait?

[The usuals came to mind; lingerie, wine, dinner. He couldn't imagine what she actually had in store.]

This surprise is a little different. After all, I can't let myself get too predictable, can I?

[She places her hand over his and laces their fingers together as she glances at the clock. Just one more minute before Gotham erupts into complete fear induced chaos. Catherine's made sure to seal all the windows so they won't be affected, but they will have a lovely view and a perfect soundtrack for the evening. Mentally, she counts down the seconds, waiting for those precious first screams.]

I generally try not to predict you. It never goes according to plan.

[He gives her hand a light squeeze then takes a deep breath and lets his eyes trail over the apartment. That's when he notices it's particularly foggy outside all of a sudden.

And then the screams start.

He looks thoroughly confused for a moment, even a little concerned. Should he be looking to protect Catherine?]

What's going on?

[He looks down at her, puzzled. It hasn't clicked yet.]

[She smiles brightly and even laughs a little as she gently squeezes his hand.]

I thought you might like it if Gotham was reminded that they share a city with the god of fear. I also thought putting the fear of Scarecrow into our good citizens would make for a memorable anniversary gift. Surprise. Happy anniversary, my darling.

[It takes a moment for it all to sink in. Eventually the puzzled look fades from his face and he grins down at her. There's a hint of the Scarecrow in his eyes, but mostly it's just Jonathan, thrilled at his gift.]

You are... fantastic. Come here.

[He slides an arm under her shoulders and lifts her up to his level before kissing her happily. It's lengthy, passionate, and when he comes up for air he lingers close, unable to keep the grin off his face.]

How did I get so lucky? They're going to come after me again, you know. This is exciting.

[And with that he kisses her again.]

[She wraps her arms around his neck and holds him close, leaning into his kisses. She can't help smiling, happy that she's not only managed to please both sides of her husband's personality, but surprise him as well. As always, Catherine likes to remain unpredictable.

When she draws back she nuzzles his cheek gently.]

And here I was about to ask you the same thing. I'm quite a lucky girl.

[She leans down and kisses his neck.]

I'm glad you like your gift. Let them try to catch and keep you if they like. We both know they never will, and isn't it worth something so beautiful?

[Catherine gestures to a nearby window, as though the city has been painted into a masterpiece by his toxin. Truthfully, she believes it has been.]

I think it's most definitely worth it.

[He moves to stand, making sure not to jostle her too badly, and encourages her to follow as he moves to the window, taking a moment to survey what she'd done. Their apartment is up high enough that street level damage wouldn't affect them, and they had a lovely view of the turmoil.]

You know, I had plans to take you for a late dinner, but I suppose we're spending the night in, now. Not that I'm complaining.

[He smiles at her, feeling both proud of her and still excited she would go to such lengths.]

I'm glad I at least brought champagne.

[Catherine rolls off the couch and takes his hand in here as he makes his way to the window, lacing their fingers together as they both look out on the chaos. It's always interesting to see how different people react to Jonathan's toxin. Some are rioting in the streets. Some seem glued in place, either screaming or sobbing, and some are running from unseen foes. What a mix. At least there are no police or winged vigilantes in sight.]

A definite no on the late dinner, but champagne will be nice, and there are other activities we can occupy ourselves with.

[She rests her head on his upper arm and tilts her chin up so she can look at him, mischievous grin in place.]

[Once they're by the window Jonathan takes a moment to just enjoy the sight. He still can't believe she did all this for him. It's simply incredible.

He smirks back down at her and gives her hand a gentle squeeze.]

There certainly are. And with a wonderful atmosphere.

[He chooses to drop her hand and instead wrap his arm around her waist as he leads her back to the couch. First, champagne.]

Sit. I'll get us glasses. [He kisses her before slipping into the kitchen for just a moment and returning with two champagne flutes. Opening the bottle proves to be easy enough and as he pours their drinks he smirks at her.] To another fantastic year?

[She takes her seat again, unable to stop smiling. She's thrilled that he likes his gift. It makes all the work and planning more than worth it.

When he returns and fills her glass she gently takes it from him, giving him a small nod when he speaks.]

[Catherine lightly clanks her glass against his before taking a sip of the champagne. She then beckons him to sit with her.]

I love you, Jonathan. I never want to be away from you.

[Jonathan obliges without so much as a second thought. He settles in next to her, wraps an arm around her shoulders, and sips at his glass.]

I love you too Catherine.

[He leans in, kisses her softly, then lingers close grinning.]

Don't take too long with your drink, darling. There's lots of fun to get on to.

[It's a gentle reminder; not hurrying her. He does let his hand drift across her back and come to settle at the edge of her jeans, fingers dipping below her waistband.]

If I didn't know better, I'd say you were thinking dirty thoughts, Jonathan.

[She grins at him, but continues to sip her champagne at leisure. Make him wait a while. Tantalize him a bit. With the way she's got the toxin rigged their soundtrack of horror will last all night, so there's no need to rush. Even Batman will be too busy trying to contain the situation to come after Jonathan before it's too late.

Catherine does drape one arm around his shoulders though, resting her head against him as she sips her drink.]

Whatever would give you that idea?

[He doesn't mind the teasing all that much, but he likes teasing her back too. So he lets his fingers tease across her lower back as he sips at his own glass.]

I only want to reward you for your good work.

But what makes you think you get to play first?

[Catherine slides her hand down to his inner thigh, lightly stroking over the fabric with her thumb. If he thinks he's going to get the first pounce, he's going to have to fight for it.]

You've already done so much. I was just returning the favor.

[Even though he'd be happy to let her go and do what she wanted, they've made a game of it now and he isn't about to give up.]

Don't worry. You'll get your chance.

[She slides her hand over further and begins to gently rub him. If he wants her to help him warm up she's more than happy to oblige, but if he'd rather get right to it, she's fine with that too.]

You are far, far too good to me. You know that?

[He doesn't argue her movement, but he does set his glass down on the coffee table before turning and putting a gentle hand on her cheek. He's unable to keep the smirk off his face as he leans in and kisses her, all play for the moment. She always manages to pull the fun out of him, and he never complains.

After a moment he pulls back just enough to speak to her, grinning.]

What do I have to do to get my chance? [He chuckles.] Or is it 'what do I have to let you do'?

[She tilts her head a little and places her glass on the coffee table also before shifting to straddle his lap. Catherine slips her arms around his neck and kisses him softly. When she draws back she looks into his eyes, her expression now inquisitive instead of playful.]

You don't really believe that, do you?

[Jonathan tilts his head in return, looking at her over his glasses as they've fallen slightly down his nose. His hands settle on her hips as he smiles up at her.]

What? That you're too good to me?

[He leans up and kisses her gently.]

Let's put it this way; I never imagined I'd be so lucky as to end up with someone as fantastic as you are.

[She rests her head on his shoulder and begins to stroke his hair. Catherine is curious, but she doesn't want to ruin the mood by prying.]

Anyone would be lucky to have you. I'm just glad I snapped you up first. Now everyone else will have to look on in envy.

I think you like that.

[He wraps his arms around her fully, loosely linking his hands together behind her back. Then, he turns his head and kisses her cheek.]

And I think we both like spoiling the other. Isn't that right?

We are married. Isn't that what we're supposed to do?

[She buries her face against his shoulder, nuzzling him gently. Catherine can't imagine a world where she wouldn't spoil her beloved Jonathan. He deserves every bit of it as far as she's concerned. In fact, she sometimes wonders if she spoils him enough.]

I think so.

[She needn't worry that she doesn't spoil him enough. Jonathan feels he's more than well taken care of, and wishes at times he could do more for her. It seemed to be a never ending cycle.

So instead of continuing the argument he decides to act on it instead.]

So come on, darling. Let's spoil each other and enjoy the atmosphere.

[He threads his fingers through her hair, smirking in silent encouragement of her more devious side.]

Mm, if that's really what you want... but I do think you need a little more spoiling first.

[She slips out of his grasp and lowers herself to the floor slowly, pushing his legs apart so she can situate herself between his knees. Then she looks up at him, licking her lips.]

[Jonathan lets her go, watching her with a puzzled and amused expression at first, then a smirk.]

You're terrible. I love it.

[She grins up at him as she begins to undo his belt, her other hand stroking his inner thigh.]

I'm not sure who loves it more...

[He leans forward slightly and runs his fingers through her hair.]

[Okay, so maybe Stiles isn't as subtle as he likes to think he is. He didn't mean for his dad to catch him perving on Michael and he didn't mean for his dad to overhear him complaining to Scott about not being able to go on dates. It just happened. On the bright side, his dad seems to think it's all one sided. Unfortunately, Mike didn't look too happy with him when he saw him earlier at the station.

Which is why Stiles is now sitting outside his apartment, waiting for him to get home from work so they can talk. He's actually dreading it a little bit, but he also really just wants to get it over with so things can go back to normal.]

[The Sheriff actually jokes with him about it at the station. Sorry about his kid, getting a crush on him, it's just one of those things teenagers do. Mike laughed it off and pretended it wasn't a big deal but it was. If Stiles wanted this to work he had to stop acting like this.

When he got home he wasn't surprised to see Stiles waiting for him and he frowns.]

So, you can be more obvious.

[He steps around him and opens the door to get inside. The dogs crowd around and look really excited to see both of them even though they're both in a bad mood.]

[Stiles had been forced to have a very awkward talk with his father earlier about a lot of very awkward, incredibly embarrassing things, his sexuality being one of them. He knows he's has the best dad in the world. How the sheriff handled that conversation make that fact undeniable. But that doesn't mean it was easy and that doesn't mean the rest of conversation wasn't completely humiliating.

Stiles gets up and follows him into the apartment, sighing with irritation.]

Seriously? You're still mad? You know I didn't go out of my way to be obvious, right?

[Stiles closes the door behind them and kneels down to greet the dogs, both of whom seem happy to see him even if their owner isn't.]

I'm still annoyed. Our relationship could land me in jail. It's very serious for me, both the consequences and my feelings for you.

[They got lucky this time. No one thought that he would be interested or involved with Stiles, but if it continues then they could get in trouble.]

[He lets Stiles have his moment with the dogs, standing off to the side to wait.]

[Stiles really isn't getting it, which probably contradicts what he just said about being an adult, but he honestly doesn't see the big deal. He's convinced things are going to be fine until he's eighteen.]

My dad just thinks it's a crush. An unrequited crush. He didn't hear enough to know what's really going on and I didn't know he was listening at the time.

[Stiles pets the dogs one last time before getting up and heading over to Mike.]

Maybe he won't throw me in jail but it could cost me my job and my reputation as a police officer.

[He waits for Stiles to be within reach before he picks up his hands in his and squeezes them.]

Whatever your dad thinks, however little you think he knows, he's an observant and smart so let's not underestimate him. Let's be careful or else things will get bad.

I wouldn't let that happen to you. You know I wouldn't. Everyone would just think it's a crush, just like my dad does. It's not like anyone can prove we're sleeping together.

[Stiles sighs as he meets Michael's eyes.]

Wasn't this part of the plan though? Make it clear that I have a crush on you and let him get used to it? I mean, sure, it's happening sooner than I planned, but I don't see it as a bad thing like you seem to.

It gets around you have a crush on me, then people start to pay attention when you come around here by yourself and that sometimes you're here for hours. It's little things that add up and lead to trouble.

[He very gently kisses Stiles' forehead.]

Just try to make people think you also have a crush on someone else too. Then it's more of a teenager infatuation with handsome men and not specifically just me.

If people are going to think it's weird that I come here by myself so often, they're gonna think it regardless of my feelings for you. As long as my dad thinks it's because of the magic thing, we're good. I mean, sure, he'll think it's because my crush too, but mostly the magic thing. At least for you.

[Stiles gives Mike's hands a light squeeze.]

That's not really how I work. I spent ten years in love with Lydia. Once I'm into someone, I'm in it for the long haul and everyone knows that. Besides, I'm not sure I want everyone thinking I have some sort of weird thing for older men. It's bad enough my dad thinks I'm stalking you.

All I'm asking is for you to be more careful. Next time, look around a little before you talk about how hot you find me. I think you can manage that.

[He puts an arm around Stiles to lead him to the kitchen. He makes him sit, then rolls up his sleeves and starts looking through his cabinets for what to make.]

Would you like to take one of the dogs with you? They're actually trained to help with night terrors and other symptoms of PTSD. It's why I got them. [He gently kisses Stiles' forehead.] I bet they're all over you when you wake up at night, trying to help.

I actually usually go to them and cuddle with them until I feel calm enough to go back to bed or until I fall asleep. I kinda forgot they were trained though. [He rests his head against Mike's shoulder.] They help a lot. I don't know why. Maybe they're just cute. Not that you're not cute too... just in a different way.

Dogs are safe, non-threatening. You can trust them a lot easier than you can trust a person. Sometimes, it's a lot easier to stay with them then with a person. [He picks up Stiles' hand and laces their fingers together.] If you want, I can talk to your dad about sending one home with you or possibly getting your own.

The Nogitsune never really had any interest in hurting animals. Not the way he hurt people. It wouldn't accomplish as much, I guess, or maybe it was the whole fox thing. I feel safe with the dogs, because I know they won't hurt me and more importantly... I know I won't hurt them. [He gives Mike's hand a squeeze.] I don't know if he'd go for it, but I think I'd like that? Maybe he'd be more likely to go for it if you were the one to bring it up.

I'll talk to him. He knows I've been talking to you about what happened and I'll recommend it. I think it could really help and I know he wants that for you more than anything.
