Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

"Whatever you deem necessary." He reiterated. "You've been trained to handle the Avengers, yes? How would you defend this placefrom them and all their talents?" The skill set of the Avengers, while annoying, was broad and made for a good example. Plus, well...defense against an Asgardian like his brother would never be a bad thing.

"All but one can be anticipated," he answered, more plans working through his mind. He would have to be aware of what their technology level would be, but with magic, surely there could be some answer to what he would need - for everyone but-- "The Hulk."

The green monstrosity was stronger than any stone or metal could allow for. It would take magic, or something like it, to prevent against that eventuality.

When the name of that green monster was mentioned, Loki couldn't help but sneer. He'd been lucky to leave Stark's penthouse after that beating. "Yes well, over powered chaos is rather difficult to defend against." And that was saying something coming from him "Do your best. I'll find a way to defend against the Hulk." Because he was right, only magic would work and Loki was going to be prepared this time.

He nodded. "The plans will be at least mostly complete by the end of the week with the help of an architect. Construction of the basic necessities can start tomorrow." The necessities were, thankfully, simple. He could give those directives without the need for an architect.

"I will have a messenger sent to the village as soon as possible and you will have you need."

Then Loki turned abruptly and motioned for the Solider to walk with him. "Come. It's time for the midday meal and after that I will have to settle disputes and other business for the village. At least join me for the meal and you can sit in on the business if you like. It's rather dull but needs to be done. One of them will retrieve your architect and builders for you."

"Of course."

He followed along, extending his stride until he walked only slightly behind Loki - as was appropriate for a guard. He didn't think Loki necessarily needed a guard, but that was the position he saw himself filling.

The interior of the fortress was still cooler than the exterior - though temperatures didn't bother him so much anymore. But the thought of food, he was finding, was appealing.

Loki's own stride was easy but with purpose. And he couldn't help a smirk of pride as he noticed what position the Solider put himself in. Without being ordered. Perfect.

The temperature was cooler, made even more so by a lack of heating elements. Loki had always preferred the cold, which had made a lot of sense when he'd found out his true parentage, and just hadn't thought to put them in. The stones did warm during the day and kept their slight warmth into the night and that had been enough for him.

He led the Solider to the Grand Hall, which as far different the it had been the night before. There were people milling about and eating from the tables. A hush came over the crowd as Loki entered and the noise didn't start up again till he was seated at the head table. He indicated for the Solider to take the chair to his right as the servants started serving.

People. Unexpected, but he immediately assessed their threat and found them to be followers. If they planned anything, it wasn't something that would happen today.

He did as bid and sat at his right, not unaware of the meaning of the placement. He even knew to wait until Loki began to eat before feeding himself. His hunger had faded but hadn't gone completely away. He'd had too many weeks of narrow rations before finding himself here.

This was another test, a few actually. To see how the Solider would do surrounded by people, the villagers in particular. How would he conduct himself and what would his comfort level be.

The food was a bit more seasoned and technically cooked then what had appeared in his room the night before. When the Solider cleared his plate, a servant was there to serve him again.

It was surprising but the food was definitely good. Better than any he could remember, with its heat and seasoning. He ate a full plate and then another - at least proving his appetite was as large as an Asgardian's.

Loki made the same mental observation. He had to eat more then a normal human but not the same as an Asgardian. No, as a Jotun, he had to drink more fluids then was typical for either other race, which is why they had to keep refilling his cups, one of wine and one of water.

As the meal started to wane, he looked over at the Solider. "Have you had enough?"

"I have, thank you," he said quietly, not wanting to speak over anyone - and, in a way, not wanting to be heard. "I haven't eaten this well for a while."

Too long. Long enough that he sometimes found himself feeling hollow.

"You are very welcome." Loki's tone was pitched to match the Solider's to make him feel more at ease. "I will not have anyone go hungry in my home." Anybody else it would have been his employ but he wanted to make a more familiar feeling for the Solider. More indebted.

As the servants started clearly the remnants of the meal away, he leaned a bit closer to the other man. "You can stay to watch me do business or you may go. I will have you speak to the messenger about your architect and builder needs now if you prefer."

"I should stay."

He didn't give a reasoning. He just knew that it was what he should do - to guard this man who was treating him so well. Odd to think that he was treated so well here, but perhaps Loki had a point. Earth may not be for him.

And Loki was not going to ask for one. Instead he just gave him a nod with a small approving smile. "So be it."

Then he straightened up and addressed the room for business to begin. Villagers brought disputes and plans for him to deliberate. Advisers addressed him regarding long term projects, which included defense for the villager and the obvious stockpiling of provisions and weapons. The building blocks of an army.

He listened as the plans were made, as the issues and disputes were settled, and it seemed like Loki was a fair leader, even if he could see the preparations for war. Interesting, and he wondered exactly what Loki was planning that these people could help him with. He'd asked for a defensible fortress - he could understand that as a matter of course. But what war was it that was coming?

A war of Loki's choosing. That was what they were preparing for. Once Loki had his army, he would decide which throne to take. That had been his downfall, not being properly prepared. He would not make that mistake again.

Hours later, as things started to die down, Loki waved over some of the villagers. He directed them over to where the Solider sat. "You are lucky. The head architect of the village is hear today. Speak with him about your plans and he will best be able to help you get what you need."

He looked at the approaching villagers and, when they were near enough, he began speaking quietly, talking about his plans for the fortress, what they would need for building up defenses - and offered similar protections for the village itself in the process.

Luckily, the architect seemed amenable and made an appointment a few days later to sit and draw up plans.

While Loki continued to discuss other business, he kept one ear on the Solider's conversation and he couldn't help a small smirk of approval. This was definitely working out in his favor. Hail Hydra for developing this asset for his own use.

Finally, they were done for the day and Loki dismissed all the villagers he'd been talking to. He turned back to the Solider with a curious look, "Have you come to some arrangement?"

With a single nod, he focused on Loki. "Yes. We'll be starting the plans in a few days, but the orders for the necessary materials have already been placed." And it had been simple enough to do. The architect had seemed eager for the work.

"Excellent." Loki let it be obvious how pleased he was, in both the progress and the Solider. Encouragement was always beneficial when it was due. Frigga had taught him that.

He pushed back his chair and stood, glad to be finally standing after sitting for so long. "Come along. I think a workout is in order." He turned and walked away, expecting the Solider to follow. No matter how much he relied on his magic, Loki was still a trained warrior of Asgard and he wasn't going to let his skills go to waste. He was actually looking forward to the challenge.

He heard the order in the casual words and followed as bid. A workout. Interesting - but he wouldn't turn it down. He felt like he needed the activity after the heavy meal he'd just had, but it seemed so much that he couldn't stop eating when it was offered. He'd spent too long hungry.

He fell in step behind Loki, posture upright and confident, though a confident follower.

The hunger had been noticed, as had which foods had been preferenced. Loki would make sure more of those were made available to the Soldier. The best rewards were usually for the stomach.

Loki led him out into the courtyard, to the side where a small training ring had been set up. Dummy and real weapons were in a shack next to it and targets were lined up on the wall on one side. He moved to the side and started removing his outer robes. While he could fight in them, he didn't necessarily want too.

When Loki began to disrobe, he found himself watching. He'd wondered if he would fight in those layers. His own clothing was less protective than he'd prefer, but they would do for sparring or practicing. He didn't expect he would be seriously injured by someone who had sought him out, anyway.

What he did do, though, was pull a glove onto his metal hand. He had already learned the dangers of leaving it bare.

If he realized the Soldier was watching him, Loki pointedly refused to acknowledge it. Robes and ornaments were set aside, leaving him in a plain shirt and vest over his breeches. The sleeves he rolled up to his elbows but no further. It was about as unclothed he'd get with company.

He turned back into the Soldier and gestured into the ring. "After you."
