Childhood. Sweet memories of days gone by, when the snow was magic and the summer lasted for forever. A spare aftrnoon didn't need much in the way of entertainment-- just a few pillows and blankets, an open room, and plenty of imagination were all you needed to make...

A Pillow Fort

The Deets:

[aaand she's back. She rises elegantly to her feet, a vaguely admonishing and disappointing look on her face - as if the onus of the blame for their making out is placed squarely and rightfully on the shoulders of the other girls.

This never happened and she's going to turn mysteriously deaf if it ever comes up.]

[ Haruka tosses that over her shoulder at their hosts, placing a hand on the small of Michiru's back to accompany her towards the door. They'll just get in the way of the other girls' evening if they remain, and nobody would want that!

Now, how should they spend the rest of their evening....? ]

[she scoops up their bag as they leave. It takes moment longer than usual, but she'll lean in slightly against Haruka, for the sake of studied indifference.

...At least they're not lacking for dramatic exits.

Once they get outside though:] They went out, hm?

[sort of not-quite-teasing? That was embarrassing, but half of it was her own fault.]

[ Haruka flicks her eyes towards the stars, sort of halfway to rolling them. Yup, she'd been wide open there. Even she could find that one. ] Leave it.

[ Honestly though, those kids are so....She bumps her side against Michiru's as they walk. It's a pleasantly cool night - temperate enough that she drove the convertible. ] I didn't get to learn what else happens at sleepovers.

[ This was the very first one she's ever attended. She can't say she thinks she's missed much, though there were some aspects that had been really very pleasant. ]

[she shakes her head slightly, but she drops it. Less time spent dwelling on that the better.

Finally separating when they get to the car, Michiru places the bag in the backseat as she slides into her customary spot.]

If I recall, there's usually much talk of boys.

[not that she has had very many friends before all this, but she's probably been to a couple when she was way younger.]

Well, that sounds boring.

[ ...Besides, you never seriously took part, right? In talking about boys. Because that would just be silly.

This driver's-side door closes a bit more emphatically than normal tonight. ]

Just talk?

And she'll start ticking stuff off on her fingers.] School, boys, teachers, popular shows...

[hmm] Make up. Clothes.

[yeah, no. Her time was better spent practicing her violin.]

Sleepover's a misnomer. [ The engine rumbles to life, the headlights flashing on in time with a new light brightening Haruka's eyes from within. She can't help how much she enjoys driving.

The fact that she's now also got light reflecting off her glittery fingernails apparently goes unnoticed. She smiles over the dashboard. ]

All in all, I think we can find better ways to spend the evening.

[that glitter is going to amuse her for a good week, whenever she catches a glimpse of it.]

I wouldn't call that a sleepover either.

[I bet they just totally abandoned Hotaru.]

[ They wake up the next morning to a phone message from Ami reminding them about DILIGENCE in CHILD CARE.

Haruka laughs and pulls out of the parking space. She's going to keep the polish on her nails until it wears off, too - now that it's happened, it's funny. (Besides, Michiru put it on for her.) ] It involves a bed.

[it's to give her time to bond with Chibiusa and/or the others! This is them being considerate and not at all forcibly drafting babysitters via deliberate abandonment!]

But no boys? [yup, she's feeling better]

[ Of course not. Why, some of those babysitters need babysitters. ]

You're funny. [ Here, she'll laugh again to prove it. Hah! ]

[...poor Ami.

That earns you a giggle. Have a sidelong glance under her eyelashes, even as a hand comes up to hide a fond smile.]

[ It's a sign of their trust in her. She should feel honored.

Grinning knowingly, Haruka accelerates as if attempting to speed away from the very existence of "boys". All that kid stuff sure isn't for people like them. This breeze, though, this breeze is nice. Good temperature, too.

She sounds satisfied, when she speaks. ]

....There's a good wind tonight.

[........poor, poor Ami.

Wind through her hair (which, apparently, never gets tangled. Somehow.), sitting next to you, no life or death situations, and no stray pedestrians undertire. It's a good night. At the moment.]

So is it all hot air or is there substance to it? [the weather, right?]

Depends what happens when it reaches the ocean.

[ Maybe they should go see. Yes, maybe they should park this car by the beach. There's an exit coming up. Decisions! ]

That's hardly an answer.

[as if Michiru is any less equivocal.

She, for one, is unlikely to complain about an impromptu trip to the beach.]

Isn't it?

[ Taking that exit. And smiling at Michiru in a way that implies the wind is very healthy tonight. And very active. ]

Guess we'll have to go see.

Keeping me in suspense, hm?

[...she probably knows all the routes to the beach, by this point.]

[ Haruka just shrugs. She isn't really making a secret of the fact they aren't heading home just yet. ] Hang on.

[ One nice thing about night driving: no one is out on increasingly-rural roads like this. And if it's wind they're interested in....

Well, all she's got to do is accelerate, isn't it? ]

[there's a spreading smile on her face as she settles down to enjoy the ride. She's surreptitiously watching you half the time, but what else is new?]

[ Hopefully those times don't intersect with the times Haruka's surreptitiously watching you. If so, however, she'll chuckle and face forward again. It's funny how even a supposedly solo activity, like driving, is so much more fulfilling with Michiru in the passenger seat...

They're making good time, so pretty soon Michiru should be able to see the darkness of the ocean spread out along one side. Haruka's heading for a cliff they know. It's a good spot to stargaze, or, well - whatever else they feel like doing. ]

[that would definitely get a quiet laugh out of her, but unlike you, she's under no obligation to keep an eye on the road.

Once they're in sight of the ocean though, her eyes start drifting thataway just a bit.]

[ You're wonderful. And adorable. And hardly ever predictable, so when you are, it's twice as funny. ] Want to go wading?
