Let It Go

Let It Go

Let It Go

You’ve always had a power that you’ve had to keep secret. It was forbidden, something that people would fear, or something they might try to use for their own purposes. Whatever the reason, you’ve always had to hide it, no matter how hard it’s been.

But secrets can’t be kept forever, and it’s time for everyone to know. Did you snap? Did you run away so you could just let loose? Is the threat gone? No matter, it’s time to stop hiding and let that power fly just like you’ve always wanted it to. Just let it go.

~*~

Even if your character doesn’t have powers in canon, make something up! Post your power, preferences, and a starting prompt if you want to. Maybe you’d rather play someone who doesn’t have powers and is just trying to convince their friend/family/love to come home. That’s awesome too.

Scene suggestions:
1. Before exposure - You're hiding it still, holding onto that secret so hard because everything will be ruined if you don't.
2. Someone knows - To the public, you're still pretty ordinary (or as ordinary as you can be being you), but one person knows. What now?
3. The snap - It's too much. Maybe it's the weight of the secret, maybe someone set you off, but you showed off your power in a big way.
4. On the run - Everyone knows, and you're running away. Is there someone chasing you? Or are you running to someone?
5. Fortress of solitude - You've made your own sanctuary away from people. It's safe to be special here. But you might not be alone forever.
6. Just don't care - They know, but you're done apologizing for it, so they'd better get used to it.
7. Make up your own!

truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth crosses his arms and taps his finger on one of them. (Attempting patience)

Weird AU things are pretty much my bread and butter, so!

[To say that supernatural explanations for situations are the last thing Edgeworth would ever consider is an understatement, but clearly something is amiss with this tale. After all, humans can't tame wild creatures that quickly unaided, yet not only was none of the usual equipment necessary to compensate for that sort of thing found in the investigation, neither were any records of purchases or theft of it. As such, the prosecutor's expression is one of contained impatience.]

Miss Summer... I cannot help but notice that you're being deliberately vague concerning how it is that certain forms of otherwise expected evidence could apparently be absent given the timeframe involved.

[Summer flinches, a reaction made very nearly imperceptible by a good deal of effort spent to mask it, before twisting her face into an apologetic smile. She takes no pleasure in hiding the truth from anyone, let alone law enforcement, but the alternative... She simply can't afford it. Far too much still needs to be done.]

Evidence? I'm afraid I don't follow, Mr. Edgeworth...
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth glares into the distance with a serious expression. (srs face of srs prawskyootr is srs)

Where are the cages, leashes, or less savory means of keeping animals controlled and contained? Where, for that matter, are the tranquilizer darts, nets, or the like for capturing such creatures on the first place? Even evidence of any such objects having been purchased or stolen in the quantities necessary are nowhere to be found. Quite frankly, it's difficult to formulate a case at all under these circumstances!

[A look of dawning comprehension illuminates Summer's face (if not for the reason one would assume), though it turns serious a moment later as she begins to "explain".]

Well... We've found that the Pinchers are a very cautious group, sir, and adept at covering their tracks. In fact, it was only after a great deal of work that we managed to pinpoint their location to begin with... I think it's only logical that our focus was on apprehending their leaders before they had a chance to escape.

[She adjusts the goggles atop her head, as if to somehow punctuate the point.]

I'm afraid there was no time to prevent the lesser members from disposing of their tools.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth points firmly at his opponent while shouting his point as special effects whoosh by! (OBJECTION!)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2014-01-25 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
OBJECTION!

[And out comes a folder of photos of the Pinchers' hideout -- and more specifically, several of the surrounding grounds.]

Observe these tracks, if you would. They point in all directions rather than only away despite covering the entire grounds, suggesting that not all of them were made during their escape. There are no concentrations or patterns of them suggesting confinement by cage or lead, nor any impressions left by things other than footprints such as the aforementioned cages.

Do you mean to suggest that in a situation where they were pressed for time, the Pinchers' lackeys not only removed every last piece of equipment for containment of the animals from the premises, but also somehow forged tracks over a wide area?!

Gah—! [She grimaces, nervously clutching her right wrist with her left hand. Again, though, it doesn't last long before she assumes another agreeable smile.]

Aha, that does seem like it would be quite a feat, doesn't it... Hmm. I don't know what to say! This is as puzzling for me as it is for you...

[She's not expecting to sway him for a second, but maybe if she flails enough she can dig herself a way out...]
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth crosses his arms and taps his finger on one of them. (Well?)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2014-01-26 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Nope, not swayed a bit.]

Is it? Did you not have a chance to see their facility for yourself?

(What does she possibly have to gain by avoiding the answer to this question?)
oblivian: (01)

[personal profile] oblivian 2014-01-26 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I did! And I definitely saw the devices they were using to keep the animals in check.

[And we're right back to Not Technically Lying...]
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is holding his finger to his temple with a serious expression. (Logic button)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2014-01-26 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
(Given that she's so fervently hiding something concerning the nature of the missing evidence despite her otherwise seeming to be willing to cooperate, perhaps I should take a less direct approach in drawing that information out of her.)

As well as the animals themselves?
oblivian: (10)

[personal profile] oblivian 2014-01-26 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
That should go without saying, sir.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth has a neutral or inscrutable expression. (Inscrutable)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2014-01-26 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Which presumably means that the equipment in question was in good working condition.

(If I can continue this line of conversation long enough, a slip of the tongue should be inevitable.)
oblivian: (03)

[personal profile] oblivian 2014-01-26 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
There were no issues as far as I could see.

[Other than the Control Gauntlets' unfortunate flaw that releasing the captured creatures with her power would deactivate them, that is.]
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is holding his finger to his temple with a serious expression. (Serious thought)

Sorry about the delay!

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2014-01-31 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
(It's almost as though the subordinate Pinchers deliberately freed their menagerie, but for what reason? Could they have feared the Rangers more than the loss of everything they'd worked so hard to gain?)

Do you know anything about how the Rangers generally and you and the others involved specifically were regarded by the Pinchers?
