The Voice Mail Meme

1. Your character just missed a call! Bummer. Was it their work number or their personal phone? What's their voice mail message sound like? Do they have an embarrassing ringtone? Say so in your comment! 

2. Others tag in with a message (or more) that they left after the tone! Is it late at night, or way too early in the morning? Was it was urgent or did they just want to say hi? Maybe they're not impressed with your character's answering machine message. Maybe it's just... heavy... breathing...

3. Call them back! (...or don't if it was the last one!) Text them a quick message if you're busy. Get caught up in phone tag if you keep missing each other's calls. Or, fuck calls, just arrange to meet up somewhere - even surprise them with a visit! Or... just ignore them entirely if you're avoiding them. Never mind that they left twelve messages on your phone...

4. Remember to say something after the beep!

"We need to go," she said seriously after looking at the message and then handing the phone to Eames for him to see as she got up to gather her things.

"And we were enjoying such a nice breakfast." Eames got up, set down some money, and folded up his newspaper, leaving it off to the side of his full cup of coffee.

She pulled on her coat and grabbed the bag her laptop was in. She was too worried now to even give Eames the "I told you so" she would have normally when she was right about something.

"Where are we going?" she asked quietly, knowing he'd already have a place in mind.

"Hotel," Eames said as they made it to the sidewalk and he hailed a cab. They couldn't go back to Arthur's place, obviously, and neither Eames nor Arthur had a safe house within city limits or even just outside the city.

Once they were in the cab on the way to a hotel, she text Arthur back.

Where are you?

Procure a first aid kit. Was the only reply she got. The cab stopped in front of the Savoy and Eames paid the driver before they got out.

"Shit," she said under her breath when she read the message. "We need medical stuff."

She looked at Eames as the car pulled away.

"Alright, you go check in. I'll run down to a drugstore, okay?" He asked, looking around.

"Okay," she said, texting Arthur as she walked in.

We're on it.

She put her phone in her back pocket as she got up to the desk, asking if they had any suites available for a couple nights.

There was a suite available with a king sized bed. The front desk attendant looked her over as she told Ariadne the price per night.

She didn't even blink at a price like that anymore, nor did she react to the usual looks she got when in a place like this without Arthur around. She just pulled out her American Express Black card, not in her real name of course, and placed it on the counter.

She eyed the card and then swiped it, handing it back to Ariadne. "Have a nice stay, Ms. Watson," the front desk attendant said as she handed over the key card to the suite.

"Thanks," she said as she took both cards and headed for the elevator bank. A bell hop came to help her with her bags, which she didn't have, and she dismissed him by saying 'her bags would be arriving later.' She figured rich people did all sorts of weird stuff like that.

1125 she texted Eames.

Is it safe to tell you where we are? she texted Arthur on the way up the elevator.

Yes. Arthur replied.

Eames was making his way back.

Savoy. 1125.

She got into the suite and put down her bag. She then went into the bathroom to get towels, not knowing at all what state Arthur was going to be in when he got there. When Eames got there, she would go down the hall to also get some ice.

She didn't have to wait for long. There was a knock on the door. "Dear?" Eames called out, letting her know it was him.

She opened the door for him quickly and then shut and locked it behind him.

"He's coming here?" Eames asked as he took off his coat and set that down on the coffee table with the first aid kit.

"Yeah," she said. "He didn't say how long it would take or what was wrong with him."

She was a ball of nervous energy and didn't know what to do with it.

Eames nodded and sat down on the couch.

After about ten minutes there was a frantic knock on the door. Eames got up first, taking out his gun from his shoulder holster, and looked through the peephole before opening the door. In walked Helena, half supporting Arthur who was limping and had the collar of his coat pulled up.

Ari stayed back as Eames let them in. She was surprised to see Helena, but her main concern was Arthur.

"What happened?" she asked him as they came in. "Where are you hurt?"

Arthur just groaned, his eye quickly swelling up. "He was meeting me to talk business," Helena explained. "We were ambushed.

"There were two guys. No guns, thankfully, but the one that fought Arthur had a knife. And he was big."

"Shit. We need to get him into the bathroom," she said as she looked worriedly at Eames. They would have to take a look at the wound and they couldn't be leaving blood evidence behind in the carpeting. "Where'd he get him?"

Thoughts of internal bleeding and damage to his organs went through her mind.

"I told him we needed to go to a hospital, but he said no," Helena added as Eames took Arthur from her and helped him tot he bathroom. "By Leicester Square."

"She's right, Arthur," Ari said as she moved behind him and Eames. "If he got one of your organs you need more help than we can give you."
