Boy, the characters we love sure go through a lot, don't they? Epic battles, crapsack worlds, evil villains...or maybe they are the evil villains, no judgement here...or the terrible dreck of mundane living. It's rough out there. And don't even get me started on romantic relationships! It's dead love interests and forever alones all around if it's not will-they-won't-they shenanigans.

Now, it's time to kill those two birds with one stone. Yes, that's right. Your characters will be getting the happy ending that they deserve (or don't, whichever), with the person they need to make them happy. Or as happy as they can be.

The catch?

Well, what you want isn't always what you need. Maybe your character's idea of their happy ending, I.E. being surrounded by the corpses of their dead enemies, isn't exactly the most healthy of things. Instead, what they'll be getting is what will lead them into being a more stable person in the long run. But who knows? If your character's ideal is domestic bliss, that may be what they get...if's that what they need.

The same thing applies to the person they've come together with, somehow, the person who will share their happy ending with. Your character's mouth may say their dream girl is "buxom stripper who will follow my every whim," but what they REALLY need to ground them is a nice girl who won't put up with their crap, or someone kind but plain -

You get the picture. Sometimes, the last thing you want comes in first; sometimes, the first thing you want never comes. But that doesn't mean your ending can't be happy.

HOW TO PLAY

Comment with your character and your preferences (m/m, m/f, f/f, etc). You may also want to mention if smut is cool with you or not.
BE SURE IN YOUR COMMENT to include what your character needs, describing the kind of person, etc, so people who are not canon-familiar or those who aren't sure what you'd like will know.
Blank comments won't be deleted, but they're not encouraged.
Play fluff - or whatever passes for fluff. Contentment, maybe? Comfort?

{As bad as she is with emotions - she is getting better thanks to Fang - even Lightning can tell there's something unspoken hanging between them. She entwines their legs and peers up at Fang, discarding the strong mask she usually wears. Fang deserves to see how she really feels.}

There are no obligations for either of us to be here. Do you want a stronger connection?

[And it all falls away. Her heart does a back flip before dropping into her stomach as she looks up, meeting that sapphire gaze. All she managed to get aside from a shaky exhale were failed words and broken sentences. She was trying. Give her a second.]

st-...us? Both...mm [She went silent to try and gather herself before attempting that again. Taking a deep breath, she mentally prepares herself.]

I do..but what about you? [All the failed dates, and the many times she's called her in the early hours, bitching about some asshole who fucked up. All the times she's had to pound a face in. All the times she wished she could just make all of that stop.]

{For Lightning, the answer is easy. Being with Fang has been complicated at times, but her feelings, once she was aware of how she really felt towards the woman, have always been the same. Fang is family. Fang is someone she loves.

Hell, she knows she is a handful too. She has gotten into fights, lost her temper and said plenty of things she didn't really mean. Yet Fang accepts her. So how can she not return the favor?}

What about me... {She repeats the words, smiling faintly. Brushing a stray strand of hair out of Fang's face, she leans down to give her a soft kiss.} I do too.

[They were probably not the ideal pair in every one else's eyes, but behind closed doors, they had this. No one else really understood that. They worked with or without words. They worked off of each other and swayed like branches in a storm together. What other's saw wasn't necessarily how it was.]

Think we could pull it off?

I think we have a good chance. {Their bond had been surprisingly deep from the start. She understands Fang and Fang understands her. Even when they have an argument, they at least know where the other stands. With respect and love, Lightning knows they have a good chance of being like this for a long time.}

Ready for the challenge?

I live for it, sweetheart.

Then it's settled. {She gives Fang another quick kiss, smiling into her eyes.}

[Weren't they watching a movie? She mentally shrugs that thought out of her mind, pressing a kiss to her neck as she wraps her arms around her waist again, pulling her closer. Every bit of tension ebbed away.]

Sorry...I distracted us.

I don't mind. {This is a wonderful step and she feels elated. Lightning nestles into the hold, her body nice and relaxed in their cocoon of warmth.} You're better than any movie.

Cheeeeeeeeeeesy. [She had to. It was too good of a moment to pass up, but it was said in a teasing tone as she pressed a kiss to her temple, her shoulders shaking softly with a chuckle.]

{She wrinkles her nose and pokes Fang's sides, getting her revenge in tickles.}

Shut up.

[Her laugh grows some as she wriggles, scooting down into the couch more to try and protect herself, wrapping her arms around her own sides to further provide a shield.]

Oh, come on. It was!

Unintentional. {She tries to sneak her hands under Fang's arms, but it doesn't quite work.

Drat.} I'll make you eat something disgusting for lunch.

[The only way she could make it disgusting is if she put little to no salt in it. Aside, she wasn't really picky.]

Impossible, and you know it.

{She narrows her eyes, unable to hold back a true, pouting scowl. She's too old to be acting like this.}

Oh man, what's that face for? [She leans up, sliding a hand up to tuck some hair behind the woman's ear.]

Are you actually pissed?

{She sits up and glances at Fang, her lips pursed.}

Are you scared?

What, of you? No. Why would I be? [She looks legitimately confused.]

{She shakes her head and presses against Fang, breathing in her scent.}

I meant what I said.

I'm not scared of anythin' love. [She presses her forehead to the top of hers, closing her eyes slowly.]

That's frightening. {Which is why she needs to stick around to make sure Fang is okay.}

[She grins, lifting her chin to look at her carefully.]

I'll stay out of trouble.

Fear is important. It teaches you what to avoid. {She's serious, Fang.}

Light, you know I have my fears. Even if I try to convince myself that I'm not scared of anything, it's a lie. You've seen me afraid...[One of the only few who has.]

{She looks a little relieved at the answer.} Being tough doesn't mean that nothing scares you. It means you know your fears and you face them willingly.
