"I suppose that's not uncommon," he murmurs, and picks leaves out of his hair. Certainly he's had students develop crushes on him. He never quite understood it on their part, but that says more about his self esteem than his personal tastes. "I wasn't passing judgment, anyway."

He blinks at the offer and actually blushes slightly. "I...that's kind of you. Is there anything I can do for you?"

She gets out of the bed, and starts to dress herself again, from underwear and back to the rather plain shirt and pants that she wears when she travels.

"You need not think of me if to do so bothers you." She starts to gently smooth out her clothes and flashes him a warm smile. "I have made it my passion to care for others, you see. Besides, I have no real idea how to answer such a question," she admits with a blush.

It was meant to be a delicate question, to ascertain whether she'd been hired or whether she volunteered. He's been known to pay prostitutes in the past. Just not for sex. Still, he's relieved she's here of her own volition. And now he's curious.

"Well...a bath does sound good. I was going to have food sent up. We can share dinner, if you'd like. What's your name?"

"Oh, I'm sorry." She grins sheepishly and absently tucks a few curly strands behind her ear.

"I'm Matilda. Matilda Reith." She folds her hands in front of herself. "I'd be happy to share dinner with you. Would you like me to start the bath now or after dinner?"

He smiles. "Balthazar Blake. Sorcerer. Merlinian." Despite the friendly look, he's watching for a reaction. If she's a Morganian, better to know now than get caught by surprise in the bathtub. He doesn't think that's the case, though.

"Maybe I'd better eat first. I'm liable to fall asleep in the tub otherwise. Let me change into something less muddy." He moves to pick up his carpetbag. "Tell me, where are you from, Miss Reith?"
