The Abrupt Kissing Meme

 

 

Plain and simple: your character is being kissed. Abruptly. How did this happen? Were they talking too much to the point where it was the only way to shut them up? Was someone bidding adieu or just not able to hold in their feelings? Or was this some CPR class gone bad? More importantly—how do they react?

How this works:

[ Erik smiles at him.

Erik smiles at him and it's warm and honest and real and so Charles' brain stops working entirely because how can it not? The night itself is cool, not cold enough to warrant coats or gloves or scarves, but enough that they'd been walking a little too closely in the pretense of shared heat and even if he knows scientifically it made little sense, he'd liked the idea. He's tipsy, but not drunk. He had spent the time too busy enraptured with conversation and good company that had fizzled in his veins long after the gin and tonic had stopped feeling like a warm glow. Because for once it had been a success, a trip worthwhile and he'd felt buoyed by it, felt like something had come of it and so he'd convinced Erik to live a little, to spend the evening with drinks and cheap pub food and a light joyful kind of revelry. He should therefore be in his right mind, only there is a lilt to Erik's accent and a curve to his mouth and Charles feels his world shift violently under his feet even as he's coming to a stop and patiently waiting for Erik to turn toward him in confusion.

It's easy even when it shouldn't be, to lean in and claim the space around Erik like it's his own. Charles doesn't think to telegraph his intent, doesn't think very much at all beyond making sure there is no-one near on the quiet little street. Time feels like it has slowed down significantly, enough that in any other scenario he'd wonder if there was a mutant about. But he knows it is only because his heart is beating too fast and that Erik feels like the very last thing on this earth and the very first thing Charles should have ever found. His hands lift like they're being pulled through the mist of a dream and they curl in the stupidly soft fabric of his sweater, knuckles pressed against his stomach as he uses him for leverage to lean in and press his mouth against Erik's own. It's not like any other kiss Charles has ever experienced, for one he doesn't think he would ever feel the quick crackle of fear in his veins. It isn't because Erik is male, because Charles is far too liberal for that nonsense and he's been to boarding school, he knows all about it. But it feels precious and dangerous and like he has never needed anything else before in his entire life. A feeling like that - a love like that - had only ever existed in the fairy tale whisper of other people's minds.

It's that feeling that sneaks up inside his skull and cuts the moment short before it even has enough time to grow. Instinctively Charles is taking a step back but his hands never leave their death grip against the wool. ] I had a plan. [ It comes blurted out of him, the sound not unlike being punched in the stomach. ] Oh, bugger.

[ He does let go now, his own thoughts a jumble so much that he wouldn't be able to get a read on Erik even if he wanted to. He thinks of how many lines he's just crossed, how quickly he'd obliterated all the fragile, vulnerable trust he'd tried to encourage. Erik's lips had been chapped and when Charles licks his lips now he can taste scotch. Dread blacks out his vision and he's older than this, wiser than to panic about a silly little thing like a kiss. Because he's betraying himself by not looking at Erik. And by not looking at Erik he imagines it's written right across his face. ] I am so, so sorry.

[She doesn't know what that thing had been, but she'd watched one of the current menaces of NYC get chucked across and skip along several housetops. Jubilee's eyes had followed his progress and ran up a fire escape.

She finds his body and skids to a stop next to him. Kneeling, she can't hear his heartbeat when she presses her ear to his chest. That's not good.

Looking around, she carefully rolls up his mask so his identity is protected, but she has access. With practiced ease, Jubilee starts CPR, while keeping an ear out for anything else that might be taking exception to his existence.]

[ If there's anything Hook has set out to prove wrong it's that kissing Emma had been a one time thing, an endeavor somehow more precious than proving his honor, immediacy racing through his limbs with the memory of her hands at his collar. He's prone to a bizarre degree of sentimentalism when he allows swallows of rum heady enough to burn his throat and dull his clarity, still careful not to finish his dwindling reserve, usually more sparing with quick swigs but there's a thirst not quite quenched now, an ache in his gut that could do with the liquid burn.

But it's obvious fuel to a fire he's done tip toeing around, an urgency twitching his fingers and pulling him to his feet once it's been dark for hours. It's a chance part of him wants to infer has been intentional, Emma stirring from the sprawl of their camp, quiet and watchful as she steps away and he waits a long moment before following, another gulp of rum before leaving it behind in his place. The weather is warm without the humidity, comfortable under dirty leather. ]

Swan. [ It's a warning though he's certain she heard him approaching, voice lilting at the corners, peeling with a slur of confidence as if the whole situation is amusing, as if following her had been somehow charming, his presence a well earned profit. His arm finds her waist as if her body is familiar to him and she hadn't been more likely to cut his head off from his forwardness mere days before. And still likely now, truth be told. ] Something keeping you awake?
