ANGST MEME

Sometimes we all want to play some angst and see just how far our characters will fall.

- Post your characters, name and series in the subject along with any preferences.

1. just depressed.

Things are tough, you're feeling worn out, or whatever the case, you're depressed. You need help or someone else thinks you do anyway.

2. abandoned.

You were left behind by everyone you hold dear and now you're forced to see how well they've adjusted, how happy they all are while you're screaming inside.

3. sick.

Cold, flu, or something even worse, all you can do is lay back and let someone take care of you.

4. fight.

You've been fighting nonstop with the other person and it just keep escalating.

5. break up.

You're being broken up with and they won't reconsider... Damn.

6. separated.

For some reason, you've been separated from the other person for a long time.

7. kidnapped.

You've been held captive for how long now? Maybe they've been torturing you even, using your blood to write ransom notes, threatening to cut off fingers to send next, etc. Rescue is on the way though, right?

8. beaten up.

Just because someone didn't like you or maybe they wanted something you had, whatever the case is, you're coming home sporting some nasty wounds and bruises.

9. jealousy.

You just have this undeniable jealousy suddenly and you need to let it out.

10. cheated on.This goes beyond just suspicion and you have full on proof of what your lover has done. How do you handle it?

11. apathetic.

You're not sad, you're not happy, you just... don't feel much anymore. The sparkle of life has gone right out of you and you're just going through the motions now.

12. addicted.

Drugs, alcohol, whatever your drug of choice is, you can't fight the draw and you can't draw yourself out of the hole, but the other person is going to try.

13. bad romance.

You know this isn't good for either of you, but you can't stop now.

14. fear.

Nightmares, the feeling someone is following you, etc. You can't shake the feeling.

15. insanity.

You're seeing things and hearing them, waking up only to realize you've done things you don't remember or you're in a place you weren't before. You're losing it and you don't know what to do.

16. guilt.

It's eating you up inside and you have to tell someone about it now. You want to be punished and you won't take no for an answer.

17. loss

You've lost something dear to you.

18. wild card.

[ Simple is good. Being around her is heady after going so long without her. ]

Quiet. [ He keeps in touch with Ryan and Esposito but he doesn't see them nearly as much as he once did. He's trying desperately to write, but he hasn't gotten much done. His editor isn't happy about that, but then there's little that can be done about it.] Alexis is good. She's settling into college.

[ He clears his throat. ]

So how are you? Good? DC is...great, I'm sure. Better for having you there.

DC is .... pretty awesome, actually. The job is great and I'm really learning a lot.

[her partner is a hardass, but it's the good kind of hardass. The kind designed to make her be better, to push her up to the level she needs to be. Sure, there are parts of it that are kind of ... empty, but she's adjusting to that as well.

This was her choice and what she wanted. She's not ready to go back on it quite yet.]

It's not the same, but in some ways that's good.

I've heard sometimes they can be that. [ Not the same, but good, he means. He hesitates because he can't say the same. Things are awkward here, empty and there's definitely a Kate sized hole in his life.

He clears his throat. ] Can I buy you a drink? Sorry, I should have asked before.

Uh, sure.

[Wouldn't hurt to stick around for a drink, after all.]

I've got a little time.

[ He orders her her usual then orders more of the scotch for himself. ]

How's your dad doing?

He's good. He's been down to DC to visit me a few times. I think he likes it.

[ He nods, swallowing thickly. ] Is he thinking of moving?

[ Because then there would be no reason for Kate to visit and that's a double edged sword. While it hurts seeing her, and it will hurt when she goes, he can't imagine never seeing her again his entire life. ]

[She shakes her head. She can't see her dad ever leaving New York City for good. It's too much a part of both of them, and he knows that she needs to be able to come back just as much as she needs to be able to go.]

No. His home is here. He's not going anywhere.

[ That's a relief. It means, at least, that Kate will always have a reason to come back to New York City. Castle will be able to continue his tug of want and paint and need in a way that if he were anything but a writer, he'd call dysfunctional. ]

Kind of grows on you. This place.

[she nods. Whether he means the bar or the city, either is true.]

It does. In a good way, too.

[ Castle was quiet for several moments, fiddling with his glass before he took a sip. Everything he wanted to say was too raw, too emotional and made him entirely too vulnerable. Kate had made her choice and he was going to respect that choice no matter what it cost him.]

So when do you have to be back?

[She glances to him with a small smile.]

I have a couple days.

Any plans?

[ Okay, so he's a masochist. Yeah, he's considering asking her if she wants to have lunch or dinner or visit old haunts. He just wants to spend time with her and he knows she's going to leave and his heart is going to break all over again. Some things are worth having your heart broken for.

Besides, he can use it in his novels. ]

[She shrugs.]

I'm kind of playing it by ear at this point.

[There's your opening. She's letting it sit there, and she wouldn't say no, even if it hurts.]

[ that is indeed his opening, but he hesitates because of the impending hurt. After a moment, he dips his head, takes a final sip of his drink for courage and just gets on with it. ]

Care to have dinner with me?

[It's probably a bad idea. It's probably a really bad idea. But at the same time ... ]

I'd love to.

[ They're both indulging in bad ideas at the moment then. He stands, a smile coming over his face despite his best effort to remind himself this is a bad idea that will end in heartbreak. He extends his arm to her. ]

Shall we go, Detective Beckett? I guess I can't call you that now, can I?

Technically it should probably be Special Agent Beckett.

[a beat.]

But I think I'm good with being just Kate.

[ That gets a grin that is far more hopeful than either one of them would probably like. ]

I think I'm good with you being just Kate as well.

Good.

[She smiles, giving his hand a squeeze, before moving with him towards the door.]

So where are we going?

A little Italian place around the corner. The owner helped me with research for one of my Derrick Storm novels.

[ Not to mention it's quiet and they're unlikely to be disturbed. ]

Really? Did Derrick need to worry about finding the perfect pasta sauce?

[There's a soft, mild teasing to her tone as they walk.]

[ He gives her a mock offended look. ]

You mean you don't know that one?

[ He hesitates then shrugs. ] Yes. He had April over for dinner.

[She gives him a mildly amused look. Of course she knows it.]

So I'll be having the sauce.

[ Rick grins a little and nods. ]

You will be having the sauce, and when I say it's worth writing about...it's literally worth writing about.
