caught in the rain
it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. time to find cover. nothing much to do but to wait it out.

scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i. WHERE;
001 PLAYGROUND - well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

ii. HOW;
001 TREE - not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - most conventional... kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - not permanent, but it'll have to do. good luck.
004 BAG - well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - you know what. you're a rebel. you don't need cover. screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.

iii. WHY;
001 REJECTED - welp. rejection sucks. and no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - for the bus? for someone else? for some revelation? what are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - is everything going your way? are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? just singin. singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

[ Shadow walked into view, from where he'd found shelter under a tree. ]

If you keep going like that, you'll probably break your leg like you did last time. I might not be there to save you.

[Sonic's ears perked up and he looked over to where he heard Shadow. He smirked slightly, part of it self-deprecating.]

But you're always and already here, so you kinda made the point moot, right?

[He laughed, fully knowing what Shadow was getting at though.]

Maybe I just have this awesome scheme to lure you out here to lecture me, heh, if it somehow gets you to be here with me.

[ Shadow's cheeks flushed a bit at that comment and his ears folded back. ]

Useless...! What kind of a scheme is that? You'd be willing to make yourself ill or put yourself in danger just to see me? Don't waste my time like that.

[Sonic laughed again, running a hand through his headspines and shaking out some water though he was being pelted with rain.]

I'm not out here on purpose to get hurt or do something stupid like that! C'mon, who do you think I am?

... But hey, did you just outright admit that you'd save me?

Don't put words in my mouth. [ Shakes his head. ] I never said I'd be there every time. Believe it or not, I don't follow your every move, blue hedgehog.

I know you can't be here all the time. You kinda said that a million times already.

I'm just saying that when you are here, you might think about saving me.

You can save yourself. I know you enjoy putting yourself in dangerous situations, but don't do it just in case I'll save you.

[ Why were they even having this discussion, Shadow thought. He sighed and turned his head, speaking in somewhat of a mutter. ]

Don't just sit there. Are you trying to get sick?

Heh, I know. It was just the thought that counts.

[Sonic hopped back down to the ground, nailing the landing. He wasn't just sitting there anymore.]

Happy? I'm gonna get myself indoors somewhere as long as you do too.

Hmph. Don't concern yourself over me. [ Shadow gestured to a nearby edifice. ] That place is abandoned, but it's in relatively good shape. I don't think anyone will mind if you duck in their to shelter yourself from the rain.

Asking me not to be all worried about you is like asking me not to breathe. Heh, that sounds so cheesy, but it's true.

I think I know of a better place to go wait it out and dry off. But you know how much I hate waiting around.

[It was more fun to be out in the rain anyway, like he was breaking some rules, or just doing it to get Shadow riled up.]

[ Shadow furrowed his brow. ]

A better place? All we need is shelter. As long as there's a roof over our heads, it will do. What is your suggestion? [ The hedgehog steps out from under the tree's leaves, immediately placing a hand above his brow to shield his eyes from the rain. ]

Your place?

[Sonic laughed since he was kidding. Partially. He was fine going just anywhere to get out of the rain if that's what Shadow wanted.]

[ Shadow's ears grew hot and they folded back against his head. He closed his eyes, pushing Sonic back and stomping off towards the intended shelter... not his apartment. ]

Miserable little...

[Sonic took the push back, thinking that he probably deserved it anyway. He grinned, and then shrugged.]

All right, all right, I'm going over to that abandoned place or whatever. You don't have to stay there either, you know.

[ Yes... He didn't have to stay. In fact, he was planning on leaving... But, there was one issue. ]

Hmph. If I don't go there, then you're just going to follow me. I know how you are.

[sonicwind]

[Sonic laughed.]

Hey, you don't know that! I could be unpredictable for once and not follow you. Just admit that you're just worried about me.

Think what you want, blue hedgehog. [ Maybe a bit worried. But hell, he's not about to show it. Activating his jet shoes, it didn't take long to arrive at the abandoned building, ducking inside and starting to shake off the rain. ]

[sonicwind]

I will! You know I always do.

[Sonic ran his hand one last time through his headspines before taking off and ending up in that abandoned building per Shadow's request and lead. He was way more soaked than the black hedgehog was, but he didn't seem to mind.]

I guess waitin' here won't be so bad. Heh, and you wonder why I don't end up going home to my own place at this rate.

[ Wringing out some of his spines, Shadow looked to Sonic and turned away again, moving to his own corner and squatting down to better dry off. ]

If you're going to dry off, do it now. I don't want to get soaked again.

[Sonic sighed exasperatedly and exaggeratedly like a little kid having heard the same order at least three times over and already knowing what he was supposed to do. But he grinned afterward since it was all in jest.]

Why were you out in the rain in the first place, huh?

[ Smirks at him, turning round again to look at the blue hedgehog. ]

That's my line. [ There's a smile there, mostly because he feels like being condescending. ] Besides, I don't think that's any of your business.

[sonicwind]

Oh, then it isn't any of your business to come and tell me to get indoors or whatever either.

[Sonic smirked back at Shadow.]

You're never gonna let that go, are you? That kinda thing really did or does bother you a lot, huh?

[Sonic's smirk softened just slightly.]

It's not gonna happen now that I'm safe somewhere. You can stop worrying now.

It's unlike you, blue hedgehog. It surprised me, and not in the way I'd imagined.

[ He didn't want to see it happen again. ] You like putting yourself in danger, you enjoy the thrill. It's no wonder that when you receive such an injury over something so avoidable, I become at least somewhat concerned.
