The Night Market

Even as the sky gets dark, there's still a lot of lights and life all over this busy street full of people. Vendors and customers from all over come to share and appreciate their creations, taking in this lively atmosphere. Eat, drink, be merry - but watch out for pickpockets and price gouging.

Rules:

1. Comment with your characters. Feel free to specify if they're a vendor/merchant, performer, or someone just here to enjoy the market.
2. Hang out, meet new people, laugh at the bootleg toys, and stuff your faces with good food and drinks.

You should know how quick we lot are by now. Waste of a bottle, if you ask me. You could trade it a kobold.

[professorhex]

[Randolph snorts softly.] I could at that. Is there one with a stall here? Or three in a trenchcoat, as the stories so often go?

[medicalling]

Dove, there's always a kobold or ten at a Market. They practically live off the leavings of others. One of the reasons they're tolerated here is they make it less likely that gatherings will be found by run off and trash.

[Many of the fae and other nonhumans looked at kobolds as most looked at the joke Randolph made; trash diggers playing at sentience. They mostly were, but they weren't entirely harmless. Just like any scavenger, they'd take what they could get, and that often meant wounded or unsteady bodies that meandered off alone.]

[professorhex]

Hm.

[As someone whose whole existence could be described as the leavings of others, Randolph finds that just a little disturbing. But...]

Yeah, I'll save the bottle for them, instead of chucking it at you.

[medicalling]

What, and not because I might take offense and hold you accountable for your terrible manners?

[Rowan wasn't the kind to do that, but he had a feeling that this one's interactions with any fae he'd met seemed to be in the negative category, judging by the suspicion he'd thrown at him when he'd first seen him.]

[professorhex]

You're a doctor. I bet you run into people with bad manners all the time. Grateful and ungrateful patients alike.

[medicalling]

This is true. Not everyone is grateful to be cared for. And I'm quite certain that if some of them had bottles at hand, they'd go flying at heads as well.

[professorhex]

[Randolph lets out a snort of laughter.]

You're an odd one, Doc.

[medicalling]

Not the first time I've been told that.

[By either human or fae. The fae thought him strange for wanting to be out among humans all the time, and the humans always felt that sort of otherness he couldn't get rid of. Not to mention some of his nonhuman eccentricities and mannerisms. Couldn't quite hide all the way.]

[professorhex]

Won't be the last, either. Would it be presumptuous to want to keep in touch?

[It might be good to have just one fae ally, one who's not like the other girls more reasonable.]

[medicalling]

Presumptuous? No. Wise, maybe, to know a physician if things get sticky.

[He reached down to his satchel, finding one of the side pockets and pulling out a card to draw on the back of before he slid it over the table. It said the name of the hospital he worked at, his name, and his position, along with a number through the department. The number on the back was his cell.]

Ties on this side of the curtain aren't always such a bad thing, aye?

[professorhex]

[Randolph exchanges it for his business card: it seems he works as a tattoo artist at a studio called Eye of the Needle. His card also has his instagram on it, because usually he's handing it to people interested in his art.]

They're not, no. I could use more friends.

[medicalling]

Tattoos? I wouldn't have pegged you for that.

[He had not a mark on himself, nor was he looking for one, but he supposed that a conversation between a doctor and a tattoo artist wouldn't be amiss to outside watchers. Perhaps for 'ideas' for the doctor, or medical information for the artist. Either way, it would be an interesting thing to perhaps drop in and look at the art some time. He liked the aesthetic, even if he wouldn't do it to his own body.]

Is that what you'd like us to be, mm? Friends?

[professorhex]

Why, did you have something else in mind?

[It feels like playing with fire, once he hears himself ask that question.]

[medicalling]

[Brows lift up, and he angles his head a bit as he gives the man a smirk.]

It seems as if you do. Care to share?

[professorhex]

Nope, not at all. You're trouble, Rowan, even if you're still too polite to use the name I gave you.

[medicalling]

No, you don't have any thoughts, or no, you don't want to share?

[He was just on the cusp of laughing, grinning over at the man who was very clear that he knew what Rowan was.]

[professorhex]

No, I'm not sharing. I'm keeping my thoughts to myself.

[He sounds incredibly bratty here, like he's stopping just short of sticking his tongue out at Rowan.]

[medicalling]

And there's nothing I can do to make you share?

[Here, in the middle of the Night Market, surrounded by things that looked decidedly unhuman, Rowan dropped his glamour. He grinned over at Randolph with copper-bronze eyes, the same colours mingled in with his hair along with gold. It was a cheap shot, sure, but he didn't often get to play this way.]

[professorhex]

[Randolph stares for a moment, before ducking his head. Ah, yes, the glory of the fae...]

You're pretty. You don't need to give me the full peacock display for me to realize that. Though if you keep showing off, I'll start getting the impression you like me or something.

[medicalling]

I like most humans. Takes quite a bit to get me to dislike one. Couldn't it be that I'm a bit lonely and like the attention?

[professorhex]

[Randolph leans in slowly.]

Is my attention as good as a human's?

[medicalling]

[It was the question that had him quiet for a moment, then he leaned forward, bracing his arms on the table.]

Are you implying you are not?

[professorhex]

Does it cease to be mere implication if I admit to that?

[medicalling]

No, but it does pique my curiosity. And I'm not entirely certain you want me very curious about you, Randolph.
