The Night Market

Even as the sky gets dark, there's still a lot of lights and life all over this busy street full of people. Vendors and customers from all over come to share and appreciate their creations, taking in this lively atmosphere. Eat, drink, be merry - but watch out for pickpockets and price gouging.

Rules:

1. Comment with your characters. Feel free to specify if they're a vendor/merchant, performer, or someone just here to enjoy the market.
2. Hang out, meet new people, laugh at the bootleg toys, and stuff your faces with good food and drinks.

Anyone trying to pickpocket her may be surprised by her grabbing their wrist; she grew up with her hands in strangers' pockets when she was younger.]

[The man in the bedazzled venetian skull-shaped half-mask and painted face has taken a break from his performance of, essentially, dark romantic rock music, to find himself a drink and socialize for awhile, basking in the evening's glow.

By find himself a drink, he'd have to find some people to drink from, not enough to leave a trail of bodies during a public event (and also because he didn't want to), but probably resulting in some night market inhabitants seeming suspiciously entranced and euphoric.]

[Market night out in the Zones is a whole thing. Has to be after that big ball of radiation we call 'the sun' has gone down just so nobody gets radiation poisoning, and it's way out where they won't get spotted by city drones right away.
It's some combination of swap meet and trunk sale with live music and games of all sorts. People are having a good time, but they're all prepared to scatter or fight at the first sign of an Exterminator or a squad of Dracs.]

[Where does a sidhe go to get a little taste of home without having to go all the way back to Underhill? Why, the Night Market, of course. There are all sorts of things less than (or more than, depending on perspective) human roaming around to bump shoulders with. Perhaps he's glancing at something edible not found in a Starbucks or supermarket. Or maybe a scent from home he's been craving. Anything could catch his eye, and he's less likely to wear his glamour when he's among non-humans. His hair and eyes will take on a slightly metallic gleam to them; copper and bronze and gold tones carrying loudly.]

The immediate reaction is nope, hell no, absolutely not, as he inches his way behind the pole of one of the stalls (though even as skinny as his ass is, he's not going to manage to hide behind one of those), but underneath it is fascination.]

[The Night Market is a great place for a witch to find supplies for spells and brews. Eye of newt and tongue of dog isn't something you find at Walmart after all. He's walking down the street glancing at the stalls. Though his goal is more "occult" one. With the woman that offers tarot reading. A practitioner, not a real witch. But they know each other and get along.]

The Medicine Seller sells medicine. It's a matter of fact. His stall is vibrant and sumptuous; brightly coloured in shades of pastel pinks, blues, and greens and rich crimsons, purples and golds. Round, multicoloured paper lanterns illuminate the wares on display in pots of silver, jade, or elegantly decorated lacquer. There are ointments, there are salves, there are dried herbs, there are pills and powders and poultices.

In addition to the medicine on display there is a small section dedicated to incense, perfumes, and cosmetics, along with strings of omamori in little silk brocade pouches in every colour of the rainbow promising luck, wealth, success, or love.

There is also, for whatever reason, perched on a shelf behind the Medicine Seller, a live octopus in a small tank. It seems a little puzzled, but otherwise quite content to watch the goings on of the market.

Locke Cole steals things. It’s also a matter of fact. But rule number one of thievery: certain people are not to be stolen from and the Medicine Seller has that vibe in excess.

Besides, Locke’s pockets are full of coin lifted from people who won’t miss it. More than enough to cover his shopping list.

His eyes sweep the contents of the stall—lingering on the octopus with a mix of overt suspicion and annoyance—before he realizes he’s completely overwhelmed. He doesn’t know shit about medicine beyond the basics.

The young man scratches his cheek and finally addresses the Medicine Seller. “Got anything for seasickness?” Then, abruptly: “Asking for a friend.”

[The Medicine Seller has always had keen eyes. A necessity in his line of work, of course. He knows very little is what it seems, especially in these crowded streets.

But he knows the young lady trying so hard to play aloof observer in her borrowed finery and he knows that the family she serves will punish her severely when she returns without a bracelet she does not own. She had been kind to him when he'd shown up in the kitchens. It was time to repay the favour.

He slips away from his stall, secure in the knowledge that his own wares are safe from sticky fingers, and follows after the thief.]

[Jennifer Koston's method of arrival at this night market can go uncommented upon. In the busiest cities, the day only ends for those who need it to... Which, apparently, is her now. Still feels weird, honestly.

But one thing's for sure. This place is the best for physical media of an ahem nature - no she doesn't mean porn - in the area. So she's going booth to booth, looking for... Well, whatever draws her fancy, honestly.

There's a corn dog in her hand... But Victoriya can probably tell that she's not exactly consuming it to sate hunger. Toreador, probably. And if the hat's any clue, probably significantly newer to the whole 'creature of the night' thing.

Maybe she recognizes from scene stuff the recently-unveiled 'Lectrokitty', previously web-only electronica girl who has recently started to DJ at the local Succubus Club... And the occasional other place besides.
