[ The doors to the establishment open, letting in a lick of wind from outside. Stepping across the doormat, crushed leaves and twigs under the foot of the woman wearing a long black trenchcoat, crunch and break as she stands there for a moment, looking around.

There are other tables and booths to pick from, but the young man's is the closest and so Makima smiles that soft, serene smile she wears so well, and tilts her head aside. A long salmon pink braid swings and falls from over her shoulder as she does so, strange orange and red spiral eyes stare at him before she speaks. ]

You don't mind if I sit.

[ Is she asking or telling him this? Her tone suggests asking and yet her body language says she's telling him.

Either way, she stands there, water dripping from her long coat, smiling down at him as the men who accompanied her inside, step back out, busy making phone calls and looking around the perimeter. ]

[ Luckily they were only kicked out of the one Denny's, and not outright banned from the franchise for the little tiff they got into last time. Something about the way Reno has been laughing and not actually trying to fight back signaled it wasn't anything serious.

This time, maybe he would be a little more well-behaved! He had his cheek propped against the heel of his palm, and was staring down at the screen of his phone with an expression that was as bored as it was annoyed. Maybe it was the downpour and lightning outside that had grounded them, or maybe it was something else entirely. Who could say?

Reno was too restless to just stay at the safehouse like a normal person, and naturally dragged someone along. It was Elena's turn. ]

Man, we could be at the Golden Saucer right now.

[ He groaned and let his phone just fall from his hand and land on the table with a clatter and hung his head. It would be easy for others to assume Reno wasn't half as diligent at his work as he actually was for the way he behaved sometimes. ]

There's not even any other streetlights in this place, yo.

[ There was a perfectly good plate of pancakes right in front of him that had yet to be touched--a dangerous sign that the redhead, with the metabolism he spotted, didn't touch his food.

Rude had already finished up, and merely glanced at Reno's plate and knitted his brows. There was a brief glance between Reno and Tseng before he stood and took his leave to pay--sign number two that something was amiss that the redhead was doing a piss-poor job of brushing off. But such was how Reno was, as he had been after his defeat to Shears: the harder he tried to ignore something, the more disruptive the lack of balance in him was.

At least this time, amid bouncing his knee at the speed of light under the table and trying too hard to focus on his phone, Reno just. Pursed his lips and snapped the phone closed. There was a moment's silence that hung heavy before, finally, he barked under his breath to keep from disturbing other sleepy tables. ]

He just orders you to kill the guy that saved his ass, and we're just supposed to be ready to die for him now?

[ Reno knew it was so much bigger. There was so much more at play. He could see most of those pieces, but with everything that had just happened--with Veld, with Zack and Zirconiade--it was all so raw, and it made him gnash his teeth. in any case, that means he's on his padd crafting a sternly-worded appeal, mug of coffee in front of him half-full and lukewarm, plate of toast next to it also cold but still being periodically chomped on.

and, well, in a perhaps literally alternate space dennys, we have a fine example of snidely whiplash in the wild: see, he looks identical to one captain james t. kirk, but there's a long scar running down one cheek. he's also in civvies. dark pants, a dark shirt, and a leather jacket. he's also on a padd but a lot more intensely, muttering quiet calculations to himself about something.

he's got a slice of key lime pie and a coffee.

[The door opens and the scent of cigarette smoke faintly curls in alongside the newest client to this Space Dennys. The poor waitress on duty is about to do a double take to one of the other tables. It's too late to have to keep faces straight but luckily??? he seems keen on the same corner of the place she had looked.

Footsteps. Each evenly measured. Predatory to anyone with a sense of self preservation. Casual if one doesn't look too closely. He slides in uninvited to the opposite side of the booth.

Adjusts the tie on his suit minutely. To be honest he's jealous this one gets to be dressed down. But he'd come straight from Work, so alas he must still look the part of a business man.]

[ he's settled in a booth staring warily at what looks like a cup of tea. there's one of those little metal teapots on the table too, steaming.

inexplicably, he takes out a tricorder and fucking scans the tea, tilting his head approximately 12.34 degrees to the right as he waits for and then reads the results, one eyebrow arching slightly. ]
