Bakerstreet Maintenance

Hello one and all!

You all have been busy! In fact you've made so many comments on Bakerstreet in the past (nearly) 13 years, we get to move to a new Dreamwidth server!

Starting around 9PM PDT/midnight EDT/4AM UTC on Tuesday, September 17, Bakerstreet will be copied over to the new server. While this is going on posts will be readable, but commenting will be turned off. This will take anywhere from one hour to 12 hours.

After maintenance is complete, we won't need to do this again and everything will be just the same as before for us. We'll just have more room to continue creating our chaos!

Thank you Denise, Mark, and everyone at Dreamwidth for keeping our community healthy!

Oh hey, same thing fail-fandomanon went through a couple days ago! It only took like an hour (after being told to expect a day or two) and they're roughly the same size.

That's what I thought about when I heard about it too! FFA has about 1,000,000 less comments but I think at that size it shouldn't make that much of a difference...? (I say, with no knowledge of coding or database management!)

We're being careful because we actually have no idea why FFA took such a short period of time when the last time we did this (with sixwordstories) it took 20 hours! We have a theory it has to do with number of entries in addition to amount of data, but we're not 100% sure, and we figure it's better to prepare people for the chance it might be longer than leave you wondering if something went wrong!

Hooray, you are back! Looks like that 20 hour run time for when we did sixwordstories a while ago was the exception rather than the rule after all. I've emailed the mods to let them know that you can all go back to merrily threading along, and while I'm here: thank you all once again for the support you've all given Dreamwidth for so long, because you all are one of our steadiest and most reliable groups of financial supporters and we appreciate you all immensely.

You do good work. You provide a safe, secure place for people to be weird. No one judges people for smashing barbies in the most unholy of ways. And you put up with our neurosis when we get all chicken little over a glitch happening. my head has been patted multiple times by you and mark. I love how transparent you are with what you're doing and what might happen, and how someone is listening to all the things brought up.
