[ apparently the lecturer is very good, and the subject material does sound pretty interesting even if it's far more up combeferre's street than hers, but right around the two hour (and halfway) mark max has become convinced that she's not actually sure it's worth all this driving. she's still not entirely sure why she volunteered to take him.

it was probably just because she likes hanging out with him, which is an entire problem of its own. ]

I just realized I can't even drink the lecture wine if I'm going to drive back. [ making a face. ] We're going to have to steal some to take back.

[ The nights are cold, at the lake where they're staying. They can't build a fire in the camper, so they do it outside the old-fashioned way, bringing in logs and tossing them in along with some old newspaper for kindling.

She's warmed all over, from the meal they've just eaten to the blanket Raleigh had wrapped around her earlier, originally turning down any offer to share until she gives him a look that promptly makes him change his response. She watches as he settles one edge around his shoulders, and then uses the half she's been given.

They sit on the ground, watching the fire as it roars to life. Her back resting against Raleigh's shoulder as the newspaper headlines of their triumph over the kaiju go up in flames. ]

[ Let's be honest. The question is not whether they're lost, it's whose fault it is.

Fortunately for all involved, Isaac is more than willing to take the lion's share of blame. After all, his foot is on the pedal, he's manhandling the wheel. There were a lot of indistinctly labeled side streets. Sure, sure, we could point fingers at the map in McCall's lap, we could ask a lot of relevant questions. But he'll just leave these wide-eyed, sidelong glances here for you, dude. Girl!dude.

They roll on into the dark, a backwoods road that is a barely highlighted smidge on the edge of Beacon Hills, maybe the corner of a town over. Drastic times, drastic measures. In the pursuit of evidence, evidence of a growing evil, one of maybe fifteen probably festering in Beacon right now, they would get that extra mile.

Twenty miles.

They pass one more indistinct, twisted up road sign, brightly lit in their headlights, and Isaac's hands jerk on the wheel, his foot pumping brake. The car comes to a decidedly not smooth stop, jolting both of them. The empty, glaring blackness of the pavement awaits them, but he just--sits. ]

We're going to get murdered. [ Spoken with a rather informative tone. FYI, Scott. ] We're going to run over some nails, and get chased by a serial killer, and die. [ Screw the whole werewolf thing, killers have a way around that shit.

It's really dark.

Isaac leans in, and carefully bumps his forehead on the steering wheel, stretching his fingers. After a moment, with some resignation, ]

[ this isn't for the bureau.

they're just driving in the old van dale had seized once upon a time and somehow 'forgotten', conveniently parked behind graceland. it's been stripped of everything of value, of course, of the drugs it used to smuggle, but it still drives.

this isn't for the bureau, it's just for the two of them, to get away from everything for a while. they got bello, but it's cost them and they both need a break to recharge, to regain some trust in each other and the bureau and briggs figures this is as good a way of doing it as any.

it's been drizzling for a while now, but it isn't heavy enough that they can't stop for the night and sit outside for a little while. the evening air's actually clean, colder than usual for california.

They had been out on a job for the BPRD, taking down a Wendigo that had been plucking off campers near the eastern coast line. The job had taken them a few days, in which they lost one agent, another had a severely broken leg, and after five days of hunting around in the woods? They caught the sonofa...

As the group of them loaded up, the Wendigo captured properly, part of their crew drove off to a deposit and holding sight. Part of their group had already taken off to get the wounded cared for. Leaving HB and Liz to pick up what was left of their camp site and drive back. HB in the back of the covered truck that is, which annoyed him to no end.

Before that though, it was getting late and he still had a camp fire pit set up. "Come on, Liz. They wont miss us. Just you and me and a fire. The view of a lake and everything." He grinned, tail swishing. Clearly he just didn't want to get into the truck and back into hiding. What? No one was going to be out HERE anyhow, right?

Ignore the fact that the stars were covered by those incoming storm clouds. How can you say no to this face?

[The trip has been going well but sometimes things take a turn for the worse. It starts with a little rain but then the rain gets heavier and eventually it's just an all out down pour that turns into a full thunderstorm. Not the best weather to be driving around in. On top of that they're in the middle of nowhere so there's really nowhere to pull over and get out of the camper.

Since the storm started in full Lia's been looking out for someplace to pull over so they can hopefully wait things out. Eventually she sees a little turn off coming up and points it out.] Up there. [Hopefully they'll be able to pull under some of the large trees in the area to lessen the downpour on them.]
