The Other-Wordly Meme

Words are magical things; they can have so many lovely connotations and varied histories.
Words have family trees just like people. They are linked to each other.
Some words are full of flavor and color and describe things you never suspected there were words for.
Words are why we're here.

The meme is simple: post a comment with your muse's name and canon in the subject line.
List any preferences you may have ("No Shipping," "No Smut," etc.), if you decide to leave the next step up to responders.
Responders (or original posters, if they so decide), go to the Other-Wordly blog and hit 'Random' until you get a word. Use the word as a prompt to write up an RP scenario. Do this several times, if you like. Mix and match. Have fun with it!
Don't stop with a word, though! Words can often have etymologies that are at odds with their current meanings. Words can shift connotations over time. Let your imagination carry you with the words as its wind.

That's good. That you're feeling good. And in one piece is even better. [she pauses, smilling at him] You were wonderful.

[He gives a nervous laugh and rubs a hand over the back of his neck, looking vaguely embarrassed. Part of him wants to just fade into the background and pretend he didn't have any part in this.] Through no fault of my own. From now on I think I'll leave the heroics to those qualified for it.

You mean like Charlie? [she smiles mentioning the knight. He was a big part of this, too]

Exactly! Knight in shining armour [He pauses, considering this statement] Well. Grubby, dented armour. But it's the thought that counts.

Yes, the thought does count. Though I think I prefer leather jackets over armor. [hinthint]

Good thing too [He flops down next to her, managing by dint of long practice not to spill a drop of his drink] I'd just look silly in that getup. Could never pull it off like our Charlie does.

[she nudges him with her shoulder] Heaven forbid you look silly.

[He sniffs, assuming a mock-haughty air. It only lasts a moment before his grin breaks through again. He drains what's left in his glass only to produce a bottle from somewhere within the depths of the aforementioned leather jacket]

Drink?

[her lips move into a smile. She's tempted to ask what exactly is in that bottle, but she's going to trust him]

Do you have a glass, or are we drinking straight from the bottle?

Ah, let me see- here, hold this [He passes the bottle and empty glass over and begins rummaging through various mysterious inner pockets. After a few moments - now juggling a deck of cards, two handkerchiefs, a set of picks, a corkscrew, and a few less identifiable objects - he gives a triumphant little hah and produces a second glass] There we go.

[she watches him in amusement. What on earth does he have in there? Just how many things are in those pockets? She laughs when at last he finds that second glass]

Next you're going to pull out a kitchen sink, aren't you?

Nah. That one's buried a lot deeper [He winks and rapidly stows the odd assortment of items back in the pockets from whence they came. With an air of ceremony he holds out the glass] Would you like to do the honours?

Yes, please. [she takes the bottle and pours a little of the liquid into each glass] Cheers.

[He raises the glass, his smile softening slightly, and clinks it against hers] Cheers.

[she sips her drink. This is good, the two of them just sitting together and enjoying themselves. Not having to worry about the Queen's men finding them or being captured. It's just him and her together. But for how long? No, Alice won't think of that]

So [He taps his glass idly against his knee, surveying the celebrations with a cynical air] Now taking all bets on how long it'll take them to party themselves out and realise just how much work it's going to be to put Wonderland back together.

Taking bets, are we? Glad to hear the new order hasn't changed you that much.

Well I've got to fit myself in somewhere, haven't I? [He gives a wry little shrug and takes a long drink from his glass before continuing, tone purposely light] 'Tea shop owner's rather gone out of fashion, and 'double agent' isn't much of a living these days either.

Yes, you're right... You'll fit in wherever you want, you know. [she can't help being sad when she thinks of it]
