The Other Wordly meme
The Other-Wordly Meme
Words are magical things; they can have so many lovely connotations and varied histories.
Words have family trees just like people. They are linked to each other.
Some words are full of flavor and color and describe things you never suspected there were words for.
Words are why we're here.
The meme is simple: post a comment with your muse's name and canon in the subject line.
List any preferences you may have ("No Shipping," "No Smut," etc.), if you decide to leave the next step up to responders.
Responders (or original posters, if they so decide), go to the Other-Wordly blog and hit 'Random' until you get a word. Use the word as a prompt to write up an RP scenario. Do this several times, if you like. Mix and match. Have fun with it!
Don't stop with a word, though! Words can often have etymologies that are at odds with their current meanings. Words can shift connotations over time. Let your imagination carry you with the words as its wind.

[Giles didn't look well. He wasn't well - in fact, he was dying. But he'd done his best to keep that from the others. They had work to do, and a world to protect. They all had bigger things on their mind than him, now, like the army, and another Hellmouth, and all the evil that was still in the world.
Giles was at peace with the idea of dying. He'd had time to come to peace with it. But when Buffy had disappeared, last seen on a plane heading back to America, he'd realized she hadn't shared his feelings.
He'd taken a wild guess about where to find her, asking around Los Angeles, and had apparently guessed right. So here they stood, on the edge of the ruined crater that had once been Sunnydale.]

And while Giles has left before, this is different. England isn't death, even if she does find it stuffy and boring and way too rainy. It's permanent. At least, for humans. The person she'll lose this time isn't just her former watcher, her role model, her best source for advice. He's the closest thing she's had in her life to a father since her own skipped out, the only parental figure she's had since her mother died.
She's not longer a teenage girl struggling to hold her breath above her duties as the slayer, but this blow takes her out at the knees, and she's not sure she can survive it.
Still, she's not surprised when he shows up beside her, perched on the edge of the nothingness that was her formative years. ]
Me? Oh, you know, Giles. Was just thinking about building a summer home right over there. Well, maybe not... there. That might be where the Doublemeat Palace was, and that's just wrong.

After a moment, he steps up next to her, so that he can stare down into the dark and the ruin with her.]
Really? Is there any particular patch of rubble that looks more appealing? [It was from Buffy that he'd learned to deflect, shove off any pain with a bit of gallows humor or a smart remark. It's not the best way to deal with a crises, far from it. But it's habit, and familiar.
And if there's one thing he wants to deflect or shove aside, it's the thought of how he must look to her, now that she knows, and how a trip across the ocean has left him exhausted. He used to enjoy flying.]

It was one such pathway that had Giles' attention. They usually closed on their own, but not before some unfortunates wandered in and got trapped, or a few wayward beings escaped to cause havoc, such as kidnapping unfortunate children. But there were ways to close wayward entrances early.
Giles had come to this park to do just that, a backpack of spell components slung over one shoulder. The portal was visible as a shimmering, glowing disturbance between two trees - pretty, and meant to hypnotize the unawares.]
