THE "SHOULD NEVER BE TOGETHER" MEME

the "should never be together" meme.
When two people come together in a relationship, it's a beautiful thing. What can be wrong with love, right? Right? Except when the union is completely and totally wrong, for whatever reason. Then things can get a little messy.

How To Play
1. Comment with your character, listing their name, canon, etc, along with any preferences.
2. Comment around to others, using the RNG to determine the scenario. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey relationship, obviously. There can be hate, sorrow, lust, whatever.
3. Thread! Have fun! Do things!

Scenarios
1. Warring Factions: You belong to rival organizations, armies, clubs, etc. Whatever it is, you're not on the same team.

2. Soldiers on the Battlefield: Or maybe you are on the same side, but this is the wrong time and the wrong place. Plus, attachments cause distractions.

3. Bodyguard and the Guarded: Just like the movie with Kevin Costner! One of you has been hired to protect the other for some reason, and feelings are starting to grow. Are you a professional and cut things off, or do you give in?

4. Prince/ss and Knight: Similar to the above, but with a whole 'nother level of wrong...one of you is royal. Courtly love is okay; still, don't forget your place.

5. Enemies: This vendetta is personal, and you totally hate this person! Don't you? Perhaps you're maybe just rivals, or something as serious as superhero and villain.

6. Family: The ultimate taboo. This person is related to you, so there's no way you should indulge this desire, even if it's the most pure love there ever was.

7. Age Difference: The years between you should keep you both at bay, but it's easier said than done.

10. Teacher/Student: Teachers and students have a unique bond, and to corrupt it is a dangerous thing. Will you dare to act on emotions that could put you both in a destructive place?

11. Already Spoken For: One or both of you are already involved with someone else, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just know that you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

12. Not Compatible: Your personalities or jobs make it so it's hard for you to be together.

13. Not Compatible...in Another Way: You're both different species, which means you're either afraid to take your relationship to a physical level or you can't because of differences in biologies.

14. Not Ready for Love: You took a vow (or celbacy, of chastity, of dedication), you're married to your work, or you just don't want to be involved with anyone. Too bad!

15. Rich and Poor: One of you has the money while the other is from more modest means. Can the 1% and the 99% ever be bedfellows, literally?

16. Hurt Before: Your heart has been broken, and maybe there's been no time to heal. But here you are.

17. WILDCARD

YES MR KETTLE SHE KNOWS SHE IS. Turning 17?

He was her peer. Really, at the end of the day, it was an incredibly short list.

And Arthur Mckellar wasn't anywhere on it.

"Won't this help, then? I'll-- learn how to be less-- mature. Make stupid mistakes like I'm supposed to."

His tone turns sardonic, "do you want to be thought stupid?"

Of course she doesn't. Particularly not with him. "Why settle for less than what you deserve?"

The flicker in her eyes is likely only recognizable to him, would be missed by anyone else. It's absolutely an expression of hurt.

"Because we don't think I deserve the same thing."

And maybe, at the end of the day, she didn't deserve him. It felt difficult to believe, when she'd done so much in an effort to deserve just that.

"Perhaps one of us is simply more aware of the implications of what you think you deserve."

That's her reminder that the relationship she is trying to pursue with him isn't a good idea. It may be the only one she gets. But maybe he feels like he ought to at least be able to tell himself he did due diligence before he kisses her.

Even if it's more like disappointing her before giving the reward. It's still manipulative. He doesn't know how to be anything else.

"The implications?"

Her laugh is just this side of pained as she shifts further back to properly look at him. It is disappointing. It does hurt.

"Are you scared?" Because they both know what she thinks she deserves. Who exactly it is she wants. How little Arthur Mckellar means and how much the man before her does. "Do you care so much about what other people think of you?"

[personal profile] theacethatmatters 2013-07-06 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Scared isn't really the word for it. In a sense it's more about her. That this is her last chance to keep things as they are. That he doesn't give of himself so easily, he never did and Athena made it even harder.

So if she's getting him, she has to deal with him. And if she ever decides she's letting him go. Well. Explosions may happen. Possibly literally.

But if she doesn't realize that by now, it's her own fault. And there's really no more he can say in argument. Not in words. But he can tug her back and finally, finally give her what they both she wants.

Arthur Mckellar could never kiss her the way Julien does.

She knows what she's getting into. She knows that he's already got a grip on her that would be nearly impossible to break, and that this last piece will be the tipping point. That neither of them will be able to let go once they give in and let this happen. That everything dark and messy and twisted between them which even he's been trying to save her from will swallow them both up properly.

She knows why everyone's against it. She wants it anyway.

It's got her practically sobbing against his lips when he finally tugs her close. Her nails dig into the fabric of his shirt as she clings, loses herself to the surge of emotions that come from finally having what's been denied her so long.

She can't even remember the Four's name as her teeth close hard on Julien's lower lip.

i stopped resisting

He's known people were against them for years now. Since, perhaps, he first took an interest in the youngest Ace. That was, of course, a different sort of disapproval than they'll be getting now, but there were still similar threads running through it. He's still making her in his own design.

But he hadn't truly cared about what they thought before. And now that her lips are on his, her teeth are on his lips. Well. He doesn't care about them anymore either. She's what matters.

That's why he holds her so tightly, why he hisses at the touch of her teeth, why his fingers twine in her hair and hold her in place.

There's nothing delicate about this. But there's nothing delicate between them.
lowtohigh: (t. excuse me your a helluva guy)

I flipped a card in lieu of the table and it was J♣ and I blame you.

[personal profile] lowtohigh 2013-07-06 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't want delicate. She doesn't want boys her own age. She wants biting and hissing and rough holding and her heart pounding half from the excitement of being in this nameless emotion and half from the sensation he might actually rip her in half.

There's absolutely a plea in the noises that escape her. It doesn't have words, but it's shaking her body. This means she'll belong to him, right? This means he'll take hold of her like this from time to time?

This means he won't leave?

yes, i magically reached over to China and made you pick up the J♣

[personal profile] theacethatmatters 2013-07-06 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She'll have to kill him to get him to leave.
