THE SOUL MEME

Did you suddenly get magic powers or a magic item? Have you always been able to see souls? Or is it something stranger?

Any way it happened, you can now see souls. Whether it's one person that you concentrate on, or everyone around you, now you've got to deal with it.

But seeing souls can be quite revealing, of course…

[Anyone spotting them will see pretty clearly both Allelujah and Hallelujah. Allelujah's soul seems somewhat smaller and hesitant but looks roughly their appropriate age, while Hallelujah is confident and taller, but looks a lot younger than they are.]

[ Since he's a part of a sect of machine worshippers, Ferrus has mechanical implants. Whether that manifests as his soul seeming oddly mechanical, or that his soul is an 'amputee' that doesn't superextend into his parts, well... that's up to you.

But his chest cavity, his arm, and part of his face has those implants. So fire the soul-body horror cannon at will. ]

[ Spoilers for KagePro version: There's a snake coiled around his soul, as well as a scarf. He seems to have some modicum of supernatural ability, although fuck if I know how it manifests.

Nonspoilers version: His phone has a soul, apparently, and so does he. His soul is unremarkable in most respects: all that's notable about it is that it's tinted heavily with sorrow and loss. ]

[For a given value of a 'soul', Sarah hasn't got one in the traditional sense. What can be seen though is something consisting of zeros and ones and drenched in blood, apathy and a chronic case of pure boredom for the world around her. ]

Could be the large 'cracks' that cover her soul.]

[There's something very obviously missing to Axel's soul... it might manifest as it being fainter than the usual, it being fragmented, or as a hole that's been driven through its chest. Whichever way it goes, it's not all there.
Other than that, there'll be impressions of flame, dynamic and sharp, something always shifting...]

[Veronica's soul is... odd to say the least. It's like her, small but it has a strong light to it, but there's a few things off about it.

One, it's drenched in blood, like a lot. Two, it's fragmented, like someone took a lot of different souls and stuck them together, held together by a strong will.]

Death and his neutral Reapers are the power that brings souls to the powers of God and his Angels or The Lord of Hell and his Demons. Both extremes rely on the neutral. Reapers are the delivery system by which souls reach one of the three gatekeepers - think FedEx package delivery.

St. Michael is the gatekeeper of Heaven, Cerebus the three-headed hound guards Hell's gates and Cato the Younger, [Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis], a General and man of strong morals and an immunity to bribes, keeps the gates of Purgatory.

Purgatory is between Heaven and Hell, and souls can sink so much that they are rerouted to Hell or rise and be delivered to heaven. Some souls go straight to their ultimate destination.

Only persons near death or other supernatural entities can see a Reaper. Tessa is used to being invisible, for the most part, and stuck in the same routine she has had since The Great Flood - her first day on the job.

[ Kaede's soul is based on duality aspects. On the one hand, there's the overwhelming guilt and constant reminder of her betrayal mixed with a good bout of loss, and on the other there is something much softer: someone who was forced to grow up fast and is possibly a romantic at heart. She is the kind of woman who puts on the air of being frosty and brash, but is hiding that kind of sensitivity behind it for fear of vulnerability. ]

ooc: Roy is a replicant; a human replica spliced and designed by genetic engineers and mechanics. He's considered more of a biological android, and has no soul, though there may be an empty glow to him, or it may be a cavernous nothing, whichever suits your muse's poetic aesthetic. He was designed as a leader among other replicants in a "distant" future where they function as fodder for work too dangerous for humans, particularly in space, as prostitutes, and other dirty jobs. Replicants are so well designed and are so competent that they regularly go off the rails, and have to be hunted down and slaughtered.

Roy is one such.

He is also available to "see" souls.

[Edgeworth's soul looks fairly normal for his world in many ways, in that it's a pale, smoothed-over representation of himself from the waist up, including his hair in its usual color and style, with featureless yet still expressive eyes. Below the waist, his soul tapers off, which is a good thing considering that the only clothing said soul wears is a cravat. In shadowed areas, it's possible to make out that there's a faint pale blue aura to him, nothing compared to what the powered or saintly might have. His cravat doesn't quite cover up the faint, fault-line-esque scar over where his heart should be...]

...huh. For a moment there, I felt kind of fuzzy.

Good thing that didn't last.

[Asura's soul is simultaneously overwhelming and very hard to pinpoint. This is because it is enormous and people near to his body are probably inside of his soul's radius, which is a bit larger than a city. It has an ill defined foggy quality once inside and outside continuously produces eye symbols that spread out, covering the world as it travels.

His soul awakens madness within everyone without some special form of resistance, a reflection of his own inner terror. It's difficult to find him and those with a sixth sense will likely feel that he should be right in front of them even when he is not. Causing hallucinations and cracking personal restraints are common side effects of exposure.]

[This version? He's kinda sorta maybe actually a dragon, so even in human form his soul would look like one, long, white and likely wounded considering the shit he's gone through.]

[Duo's soul appears as a malnurished child, splattered with blood and bearing tattered grey wings that can't seem to decide if they're that of an angle or demon, clutching a scythe.]

[Those who see Kenshin will also see a twelve year old boy in rags, unarmed, and an older but still young man with a cross-shaped scar and blood dripping from his clothes. The boy is clearly more hesitant and innocent than the bloodied young man, who has a sense of cold ruthlessness around him.]

[Kurama's soul is quite clearly a nine-tailed silver fox with red eyes.]

[If one compares this anthropomorphic rabbit's soul to someone else's, they'll see there's something very weird about it. For one, it's shimmering, like it's only just coming into view, and it's shaped as a tree. Its roots dig into his feet, its branches sprouting from his arms, and his ears covered in leaves. Glowing leaves.

It keeps shifting and changing size. Sometimes the tree withers, turning into a single brilliant green leaf on his chest, sometimes growing to impossible sizes and turning into the shape of a rabbit, but it's always a variation of a shimmering tree with a brilliant inner light, right where his heart should be.

The moment someone who can see it comes near, his ears will perk and he will raise his head, fixing the person with unsettling red eyes no matter how strange it would look to others.]

[When it comes to normal appearances, she is just a normal human. On the pretty side, but otherwise, nothing stands out as being extraordinary.]

[But for those with a special sight, there is definitely something seriously off. Because at first it almost seems like she has no soul at all. Except that's wrong because in looking longer, it's better to say her soul is some sort of black hole. There are tendrils of...something being pulled into her core, vanishing into the void, just as invisible as her soul.]
