The Word Association Meme
Nearly everyone has played a version of this game. Someone says a word, and you have to say the first word that comes to mind after hearing the other person's. Today we're going to have a little bit of a twist on this game in.......

You're sure Mary won't mind? It's hardly good for a marriage to take calls at all hours of the night and disappear for days on end, but we both know that I'm no expert in this subject.
[He isn't trying at all to mask the bitterness in his voice.]
So, this is what you meant when you said things could no longer be the same between us.

Mary is a good woman. Hopefully, she'll understand. What you do is important. And you're important to me.
no subject
[He's of course referring to the second statement about importance and not the first. (Why yes, he is a child.)]
no subject
Yes, you are. When you... do you know what your death did to me?
no subject
[He has a good idea what John means, but he's still feeling bristled from the whole Mary thing. He'd routinely checked on (stalked) John during the three years of his absence to make sure nothing bad had come about.]
no subject
It ruined me, Sherlock. I'm not even sure how I went on.
[But that's John. He soldiers on.]
And I don't know where I'd be right now if it weren't for Mary. She saved me. You saved me. Can't you understand that?
no subject
It's probably a good thing.]Then I'll thank her, but I won't like her.
[He's not accustomed to being replaced, but there's a first time for everything. If he just lets himself take the time to think about things in an unselfish way, he would come to the realisation that this is best for John.]
no subject
In the end he says nothing. He hasn't even touched those little pastas he was talking about and the garlic bread is cold by now.]
no subject
You should finish your food.
[He'd ordered a coffee, indicating his mind needs to focus on some unspoken task.]
no subject
Not very hungry.
[And this was getting awkward.]
I'm sorry.
no subject
Right.
[He starts to stand up and tugs his coat even.]
Give my regards to Mary.
no subject
[John gets up as well.]
You'll be at Baker Street, won't you? I'll come to see you tomorrow.
no subject
[He has no intention of leaving Baker Street unless things become a problem.]
