[ charlie wants another interview. with katie killjoy. on television. when he suggests there were better ways to reach an audience, the peanut gallery asks him how, what ways, it's not like you've started up your show again, who has more reach on every level of hell than the Vees?

and oh, ha ha, oh does it take everything in his power not to gut them all right there.

he doesn't kill them all and bring the newly-built hotel down to smoldering ruins around their broken corpses. he remembers the deal. he remembers his own plan. and he is actually, despite himself, becoming mildly fond of these misfits. but mostly he lets the interview happen because... because they're right. charlie appearing on the show is a smart move. slaughtering a bunch of angels will get all of hell to tune in. with that attention, charlie will pitch the hotel better than she ever has before. he's been training her; she's been improving. and with all those new viewers, they'll surely see new guests.

and those numbers will go to vox; the attention will go to vox; the pride will go to vox. it's unconscionable. it's unavoidable. for the larger plan, it has to happen.

alastor almost doesn't go to the studio. he lets vaggie think she glares him into it, but really it's that he knows vox, the pathetic squirmer, will look for him the moment he knows charlie is in the building, and it would be downright embarrassing not to be there; vox would know his absence for the cowardice it was. besides, it's almost certain vox already knows about the interview; perhaps he's been anticipating. perhaps he's been working himself into a downright tizzy. that would be delightful.

the thought bolsters alastor, makes it easier to move through the building. here in this monument to media, his reputation more than precedes him. most gasp at the sight of him; a few start to run, and one flatteringly throws himself out a window. he smirks and wraps his influence around charlie. that's what's important here, not... anything else. ]
