What you do after Denny's.
Picnic MemeAhh, what a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the flying animals of your choice are making their noises, and the sky is, presumably, as blue as can be. Finally, a break from this awful weather! And you know what else? It's a perfect day for a picnic. There's nothing quite as whimsical as a well-executed picnic, so if you want to make an impression or just have a good time, break out the food under the shade of a tree. The best part is that a picnic can be as unique as you two are: a beautiful spread on top of a blanket, burgers grabbed from the drive-through and eaten with your legs dangling from the backseat, or a heart meal of venison one of you hunted while you sit on the bodies of your enemies. All that's required is to enjoy the food and a peaceful time together. Of course, just because the idea is inspired doesn't mean it has to play out exactly that way. Maybe one of you was dragged here against your will. Hey, have you heard about that swarm of Africanized killer bees? I hope they don't ruin your day. And who are those kids in that green van, screaming about ghosts...? Ahh, what a wonderful day for a picnic. HOW TO PLAY

But things have changed.
Now, the sun seems somehow brighter, and the dread that had taken hold in her heart is gone. Now, she can move about as she pleases, though dutiful wife and mother as she is, she rarely strays far from his side. Now, there is much to do, much that needs to be put in place in this bright new world that awaits them, but there is still time, seemingly, for only the pair of them now that he has healed. ]
Will you tell me where we are going, husband? [ She has been curious ever since it became apparent that they'd be leaving the city walls, but she's tried not to spoil the surprise. Elia is excited more than anything- their rather strange courtship had not exactly allowed for private outings. ] And what is in that basket?
[ Elia is hoping for wine, personally. ]

[But he is well enough to walk a distance with his wife, and not fear for its effects, and he is happy enough to do so. It seems to him that there is never enough time for these moments, and it is a joy, on a fine summer day, to take the opportunity. It is a joy to take her arm, not because either of them need support, but only because he wants to. It is a joy, for a while, to walk away from grief.]
I will tell you, but it will mean little to you, I fear, if I say that we are going to the marches of Lossarnach, on the lower slope of Emyn Mallos.
[His smile is laughing, but it is at his expense more than hers, and really, it is at neither. He leans over, pressing a kiss to her hair as he walks.]
So let me say, rather, that we are going to a place where I know that elanor and kingsfoil are both in bloom, and where there is shade and peace. And there is bread in the basket, and meat and pastries and some honeycomb from the gardens, and wine enough for two.
Does that satisfy your curiosity, or no?

So it doesn't really matter that she doesn't know where they are going, that she does not recognize any of the places yet. What matters is that he is smiling, and kissing her hair, and that in this moment they are free to do as they like, to enjoy each other's company in the most simple ways. ]
I think- [ She tugs her arm out from his, but only so she can catch his hand in her own so she can bring it up to kiss it. ] -that that is a very fine way to spend the day. And I can think of no man I'd rather share it with.
no subject
What more could I wish than that? Is it not what we fought for, what I have dreamed of in dark hours? To walk in the summer sun, with my lady by my side, and fear nothing; to share all the beauty of the world, and to share it with the beauty of the world.
Come, then! and share it with me. [He turns to continue, his hand still in hers, with an almost boyish smile. He knows this land less well than the other side of the river, but he knows it well enough to know where they are heading: well enough to know that, over the next rise, craggy stone gives way all at once to the smooth hillside, and a clearing where the long grass is carpeted thickly with wildflowers.]

It is a beautiful day. [ And if he thinks she matches it in beauty, who is Elia to disagree? She follows at his side with a buoyant excitement, lips parting with a soft gasp as they find their way to the clearing. ]
Oh, it is lovely. [ For a moment she feels absurdly grateful, to have made it here, to have this, with him at her side. She squeezes his hand, wanting to say it without using words, since she hardly wants to grow emotional before they have even started their meal. ]

Sodo [Beleth] | Ghost
no subject
She laid out a brightly colored picnic blanket onto the grassy field, setting up their snacks while Copia ran around her in circles. She looked up at Sodo, flashing him a pleased smile. ]
He's already enjoying himself.
no subject
He wrapped an arm around Imperator's waist and scooted closer to her, observing the tiny future antichrist in their charge. While he had spent more time with adult Copia than child Copia, the intensity of his time here had lead him to view the boy as a son figure. Enamored as he was with the Prime Mover only strengthened this.
Copia screeched his tricycle to a halt and waddled over to proudly show off a butterfly he had captured, in a little breatheble container, to show his mother, proudly declaring he caught it for her. The boy also didn't seem to understand butterflies were bugs and was convinced it was a "fairy". Sodo couldn't bring himself to correct the young one. He beamed proudly and glanced at Imperator.
To Copia, he nodded. ]
Amazing job, little sunshine.
[ And then, leaning in towards the sister's ear, very close, he whispered lyrics from the future (not from their band, but who cared? ]
Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice
Come on and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
[ After lingering by her ear to drag lips lightly across her jawline and place a kiss at the nape of her neck, and a briefly playful little nibble, he turned back to Copia and said, simply: ] You caught a bigger one than everyone! But now, You make a wish and set it free.
no subject
She gave Copia a fond smile as he showed her his "fairy," and she let out a quiet sigh as Sodo wrapped an arm around her waist, whispering what felt like words of prophecy. Indeed, the blood on her hands - the baptism for Copia, which she willingly took upon her shoulders - was her glorious sacrifice. The many butterfly wings she would rip out for him was also testament to how cold and deep the darkness in her heart ran for him.
She accepted Sodo's kiss with a soft hum, tilting her head to lean it against his shoulder. ]
Go on, then, [ she said to Copia. ] Make your wish, then set the fairy free in the flowers, so that it can add the energy of your wish to springtime and make it bloom.
[ Laughing lightly as Sodo gave her a nibble, Sister tipped her chin back to brush a kiss to the Ghoul's would-be pulse point, at the underside of his jaw. ]
no subject
He let out a soft growl of peaceful feeling simple pleasure as her kiss brushed the underside of his jaw. ] I love watching you here, when he is still young and innocent and free to be a child, excelling as his mother. You are remarkable.
[ Indulgently, his fingers lingered on her face. ] No one could be more perfect for him than you.
[ And then, he could not resist but leaning in with the hope of kissing her. ]
no subject
Sister Imperator once again leaned back into Sodo's embrace, allowing the glowing warmth of his words to wash over her. ]
I believe that this is why this duty came to me. I am proud to be his mother.
[ One day, she would be exacting and stern, accepting nothing but the best from him - the best that she knew he had in him. He might hate her for it, as all children did when their parents directed their path with discipline. But for the work Copia would put in, she would also put in tenfold, paving the way for him in the shadows.
She shook the darkness of her schemes and machinations from her thoughts as Sodo leaned in, and she smiled up at him, thinking to herself that she was once again pleased that his mask had that very convenient cutout for his mouth. ]
You spoil me.
[ Thank you.
With that, she received his kiss with a warm sigh. As always, Beleth's kiss tasted like fire, and she returned the heat of it with fervor and invitation of her own.
Some distance away, she heard Copia go, "Ewww." He was probably making a face and pelting back towards his tricycle to get away from them. ]
