It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?

01 • FEAR.

Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.

02 • HUNGER.

Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.

03 • PAIN.

Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.

04 • SOLITUDE.

For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...

05 • DISCOMFORT.

Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.

06 • PENSIVE.

Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?

07 • SADNESS.

Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.

08 • ANGER.

You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them.

09 • RESTLESS.

You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you.

( she didn't travel as well as she did when she was younger, finding herself more awake and restless now that they'd stopped for the evening than the rest of the day had been. they'd eaten, she'd gone to try and sleep, but even over an hour later she couldn't.

a drink was her first thought, maybe some more food... and if she was lucky an ice pack to press to the back of her neck.

[He was supposed to come right back. Steve knew that they'd been waiting for him to be back in five seconds-- well, everyone except for Bucky. They'd spoken earlier and he'd told Bucky that he was going to go back to Peggy. He'd hugged Bucky tight and told him that he'd miss him, and visa versa. They both knew that she was there, waiting for him and it was the only path in life where Steve saw himself being able to find any form of love. Maybe it wasn't the one he'd always wanted, but that was impossible. He knew it was.

Peggy was different from the start. She was the one doll who looked at him while he was still little Steve Rogers, the Artist who looked at her once and called her a broad. She didn't judge, but saw inside and saw his heart and knew like the others that he would be the one candidate who would throw himself on a grenade for the others.

They'd promised to meet for a dance, but instead Steve lost the meaning of his life, his other half and best friend. He didn't know how to find happiness while that part of his soul was gone. He could have tried to affect it, but knowing Bucky had fallen and wasn't somewhere going on, finding his own happiness -- it was too much and Steve drove himself into that ice with the bomb.

Coming back out wasn't part of the plan, neither was becoming an American Hero again, or finding out that Bucky had been alive that whole time. It was bittersweet to see him again. Steve had to wait until he knew that Bucky was going to make it, to be able to settle into this life, and find his happiness again before he'd allow himself anything like this. It seemed meant to be.

However, nothing ever turns out quite the way it's supposed to. He shivered as he came back through time. This time was a lot different than the first. Steve didn't even know where he'd end up. Breaking through the wall of time, he stumbled into a town somewhere in what ended up being France. It took work, but he found his way home. He even managed to find out where Bucky was. That took even more big smiles, and even a little song and dance, but after it all he found out. It was on the way home that the rest hit--all that he'd missed, the stories on the news, the papers on the trains. They broke Steve's heart. They took more loss, and it wasn't easy. He needed his best friend more than ever now.

Turning up at Sam's sister's place in Louisiana feels like such a long shot. It's beautiful, but it doesn't feel right. He's heard things, but what's hearsay in the grand scheme of things. Steve feels like he's missed so much by being gone. He's glad he went. He learned a lot about himself, about what his life was supposed to be, but he's so happy to be back. He knocks at the door, and has no idea what's going to meet him. It's about 3am, and so he hopes with all hope that his quiet knocks are only heard by the one person he knows never sleeps-- if he's actually here that is.]

[ These nights happen more often than not - Aerith will toss and turn in bed, huff out a sigh, sit up to punch her pillow, then flop herself back down.

Naturally, it does nothing. It's not a matter of physical comfort that's keeping her wide awake in the middle of the night. No, this is something more intangible and not as easily solved.

Memories flit through her mind, of her childhood and the times she's had trouble sleeping. Earlier memories are faded images of lab coats and her mother, frail and sickly. Instead, she focuses on Elmyra - anytime Aerith had trouble sleeping at night, she always had a cure. Usually in the form of warm milk, and the memory has Aerith sitting straight up in bed, snapping her fingers.

That's it!

She's fully left her room behind before she comes to a stop, the unfamiliar surroundings reminding her that she's not exactly home. She just can't swan into the kitchen looking for food or milk or ease of mind. Her eyes linger on Tifa's door, an idea forming.

Trying her best to emulate Yuffie's quiet steps (at least, quiet when she wants to be), she creeps up to Tifa's door and lightly taps on it. She doesn't wait for a response before easing the door open a crack, leaning forward to press her face close to the opening.

If Tifa's asleep, she'll leave her alone. If not, someone will be getting dragged into an impromptu midnight snack. ]

Tifa? Are you awake?

[ It's not much of a whisper, but Aerith hasn't heard a sound of anyone else moving about, so she feels confident enough to not force a whisper. ]
