It's gotten quite long, hasn't it?

[ Shou's voice sounds quietly from behind Ai as he gently runs the flat of his palm beneath the length of her hair at her neck. He's seated on the couch in her apartment, one long leg folded beneath him and the other planted on the floor to bracket Ai's petite frame where she sits (on a cushion, he made sure.) on the floor in front of him. The long, luminous strands are still damp from the bath they'd taken, a welcome routine to slough off the day's exhaustions.

He's become fond of this, combing gently through little snags and tangles. Even when he's seen her hair at its sleekest and brightest, smoothed and worked to limelight perfection, there's something about this that sits warmly in the hallow of his chest as he gathers it up and runs his fingers through it, releasing the scent of her shampoo into the air. ]

[ Ai's used to having other people take care of her hair for her - it gets brushed, tied, pinned, poked, yanked, curled and straightened into place with needlepoint precision before every one of 'Ai of B-Komachi's public appearances. It's part of the brand, after all - that bouncy side ponytail is just as much of a trademark as her doofy little rabbit mascot.

She doesn't really mind it (is what she tells herself) but it does get a little exhausting sometimes. So Shou's gentle, thorough touch is a very welcome change and it's one she's been greedily indulging in every time she gets the opportunity. ]

Heehee, right? ★ [ She tips her chin up proudly, beaming all over her face. ] I wasn't really trying to grow it out at first but now I'm really glad I did. You think I'll ever get it all the way down to my thighs?

It's a possibility. [ Leaning aside, Shou cants his head to meet her gaze, warm pacific blue on brilliant orchid. ] I'd have to braid it more often.

[ Not that their home life is particularly rigorous, most nights and off-days spent just like this, calm and lulling. But there's a certain satisfaction in being able to give Ai touch like this when she's so used to hands making and unmaking an idol each and every day. Here, she is simply Ai. Something faint crosses Shou's expression, its usual moroseness lightening into affection that most would miss.

With the weight of her hair still gathered in his hand, his other moves to the side of her face, long fingers sweeping some of her fringe back. ]

But I'd like to see it, all the same.

Oh, you would? [ With a biiiiig melodramatic sigh: ] Aah, that'd be terrible... how would I ever put up with that?

[ ... of course, even if she wasn't already grinning all over her face, it'd be hard to take any of that seriously given the way she relaxes at his attention, tilting her face into his touch like a contended cat being pet. She looks like she's about to start purring any minute. ]

I bet you could do some really cute braids with even more hair to work with, too. There was a trend going around a little while ago of people braiding flower shapes into their hair... but don't ask me how it's supposed to actually work.

[ A huff flutes from his throat, soft and contented. Leaning away again, he tucks the layered locks that have fallen to her chest back, reaching aside for a pump of the nice oil he's been using on nights where he wants to pamper extra. It's light and sleek, fragranced like camellias in the rub of his palms. ]

Hmm, I see. Shall I look up a tutorial? [ He is, as usual, gut-wrenchingly earnest in is mission to spoil his bride. ] I don't think that'd be so difficult to try.

In go his fingertips, giving her scalp a cursory scritch. ]

[ A laugh threatens to come bubbling out of her and Ai presses get lips together to make sure she keeps it down. She's not laughing at him, really! But the image of Shou gravely consulting some cute girly hair tutorial online...

Well, it's cute. In that way Shou's always so unexpectedly cute when he's doing his best for her. It makes Ai feel a little caught off guard every time she's subjected to it but she likes it a little more every time it happens.

Once he finally touches her, though, a long sigh comes pluming out in place of a laugh and she closes her eyes contentedly. Really not beating the cat allegations. ]

Mhmm. I'm no good with fancy hairstyles like that but I bet you'll make it look easy.

[ Another sigh as she shamelessly tips her head into his touch. ]

Heehee. Or maybe there's some other cute hairstyle you want to see me with?

[ It's always a striking thing, to be on the receiving end of Ai's comfort, the lowered walls. Shou finger-combs through the vivid strands, thoughts turning over in his mind with a natural synchronicity — when they'd first met, there was friction between his propensity for violence and her submerged heart, sensitive to every ripple, to all manners of sharpness. For her to break the surface and for him to learn to brush his fingertips against it with more gentleness than he'd ever shown anyone else... in times like these, he still thinks about it. How special it is. ]

Perhaps... [ He wonders aloud. ] A braid here.

[ Sectioning off a piece of hair at her temple with a deft twist of his fingers, Shou twirls it a little and tucks it back, pulling the length of it into a ponytail. ]

If you clipped it back like this, [ he winds it into a messy bun. ] it'd show off you neck.

[ That one's for him. He's overly fond of its elegant column, the soft skin and warm scent there. ]

[ She doesn't have a mirror to see, but with the way he gently curls her hair into place, she can imagine it - and this time a laugh does bubble out of her, warm and fond. ]

Aah, that's more a kind of mature look than usual, huh? [ Definitely not the sort of thing she'd be asked (or allowed) to wear for work. Cute, youthful and pure is the name of the game and the branding has to match. ] I think I could pull it off, though.

[ Especially if Shou wants to see it. There's already lots of little parts of her that nobody else gets to see but Shou and the idea of adding another one... she likes it. The idea of wearing something or styling her hair in a particular way exclusively for Shou, because it's something he wants to see... maybe it's totally expected for other girls, but it makes her heart pitter-patter a little to consider it. ]

Maybe I'll wear it like that next time we have a date. And you can pick out something cute you'd wanna see me wear, too.
