CALMING CARETAKER

Who in the world could hate kindness? Sweetness? Conscientiousness? All of us, on some level, like to be pampered and taken care of, from the most churlish to the most pleasant. Yes, even those grouchy grumps, or, of course, the cool-headed psychos -
Okay, maybe not all of us to the same degree.
Regardless of your disposition, somehow, you've gained a doting significant other. It seems like they find their greatest pleasure in taking care of and looking out for you. This may manifest in them simply trying to keep you entertained, happy, and healthy; it could also come in the form of them being a domestic doter, taking care of all your needs. Be it the former or the latter, there's an inherent adorableness that comes with their efforts and generosity, and in return, you have an urge to protect and care for them. They're just too precious for this world! Only, you know, there's a good chance you can a. ignore this, because you're emotionally stunted and full of wo/manpain, or b. repress it because you're a badass and would never.
Unless you've completely disregarded all that because they're just too much and you want to hold them forever.
So, how do you feel about all this? Do you wish they'd stop with this foolishness (not really)? Are you pushing them away? Are you embarrassed? Maybe you're absolutely taken with them! Just realize that you have it incredibly good.
HOW TO PLAY • Comment with your character, preferences, their role, any info, etc. • Reply to others.
ROLE • Usual: This is how they always are. "Caring" is in their nature. • Unexpected: They don't seem like the type...but with you, they are. • Terrible at It: They're trying hard, yet it seems like they fail at trying to take care of you. Depending on who you are, though, that may just make them more endearing. • Because You Like It: They heard you like those who are sweet and kind, so they're trying to change their ways. • Not Together: Technically, you're not together romantically, but everyone knows the truth. • The Doted Upon: What it says on the tin!
PROMPTS • Feeding: Whether they cook for you or have moments where they feed you, literally, they take your nutrition seriously. • Massage: Let them work out all those kinks. • Clean You Up: Here, they've drawn a warm bath for you. • Dress Your Wounds: If you're the kind of person who gets in battles, they'll see that you're all patched up. • Singing: Or telling stories, or otherwise calming you down. • Lap Rest: Sometimes, their lap is the best pillow. • A Shoulder to Cry On: When you have troubles, they're always there to listen. • The Calming Force: If you have moments of terror from past trauma, they're always willing to put themselves on the line to bring you back to reality, even if it puts them in danger. • Soft Kisses: Their kisses feel so good, and they're never demanding. • Head Pat: Sometimes, a simple gesture can mean the most. • Grooming: They'll fix your hair - or at least play with it - and help you shave. • Gifts: Homemade or expensive, they like to shower you in presents. • Lovemaking: The obligatory smut option, where they're a generous lover. • Protector: They look out for you, and while they don't seem that way, if you're threatened, they get like a bear protecting her cubs. • Gentle Giant: They make you feel so small and delicate. • Reverse: For once, you want to dote on and take care of them. • Unwilling: It's a wonder they still try to care for you, because you're cruel to them and rebuff them at every turn, even if you really don't mean it. • It's Okay to Cry: They never get upset because they don't want to put that on you. You want to let them know they can let it all out. • WILDCARD |

He's a natural caretaker, but even he could use some TLC sometimes, so happy to reverse it too. He's average height so "Gentle Giant" wouldn't really work for him unless your character is really short, and "Unwilling" might be difficult, maybe more of a "he's trying to look out for their health (physical or mental) and they're being stubborn" thing if you want to do something like that?
(Also here is a male cover of Sleepsong. No reason. Not like I have it on his playlist because of his nurturing caretaker vibes or anything... ;P)
Happy to play this platonically as well! He takes care of everyone!

Sanji is a chef, so his preferred method to take care of people is cooking for them, of course, but he can also help with any possible injuries, fixing her hair, and anything that is more affectionate is also good.
Maybe someone attacked them, and they're helping each other in the aftermath? Or Aerith needs some cheering up? Anything you feel like to play out, I'd adapt to.]
no subject
[ things aerith should not be doing: waltzing through dangerous neighborhoods at night.
things aerith is doing tonight: just that.
when you grow up in the slums, these sorts of things are hard to avoid, and thus they become something you get used to. she's tough — she can handle herself to a certain extent — but alone, and when faced with men far larger than her? it's tough, and there's only so much she can do.
they caught her off guard, ruined her braid in the process of grabbing her, and got a few good hits in when she fought back. she'd like to think she could've handled it herself, but it's a lucky coincidence that sanji showed up when he did.
it all happened rather quickly, and whatever he did got them to retreat in the end — which is nothing less than a relief for her, even if she doesn't show it at first.
stumbling to her feet somewhat clumsily, she shouts back at their retreating figures. ]
Yeah, you'd better run! He's got plenty more where that came from!
[ aerith don't volunteer him for more he already saved you. ]
Ow— [ it comes out sudden and breathy, mostly to herself, the pain in her leg shooting through her body at the weight she's just put on it, causing her to double over a little. ]
no subject
[ There's nothing that pisses off Sanji more than a woman being in danger. Some people can't even show a little bit of respect and leave a lady alone, and he's annoyed to discover that the town his crew stopped by for supplies also has this kind of scum around too. Annoyed but not surprised, and his irritation evidences itself in the way he kicks Aerith's attackers with maybe more force than necessary —one goes through a nearby wood fence as if it were made of paper— but really, they had it coming. Bunch of assholes, the lot of them.
The only reason Sanji isn't yelling at them the many (so many) insults he learned while growing up at the Baratie is because a) it would be rude to say certain things in front of Aerith, and b) she seems to be plenty happy with yelling at them herself. That makes Sanji smile despite the circumstances; she likes women with some spunk. ]
As true as that statement is...Don't worry, miss, I think they have learned their lesson now.
[ He clearly doesn't mind being hyped up, it's quite flattering. Thanks, Aerith.
The smile doesn't last long once Sanji sees the state she is in and immediately moves to her side to assist her, his hands hovering in the air and ready to steady her but not touching her without her permission yet. ]
Are you okay? Sorry, I didn't make it sooner. Did they hurt you? Do you need me to take you to a doctor?
no subject
I'll be okay. No need for any doctors.
[ she's just a little messed up from the struggle — a kick to her leg, some scratches on her arms, and her braid messy and partially undone.
at that, she tries to stand up straight again, but any pressure on her leg sends an electric shock through her that proves maybe she won't be walking away from this any time soon. it's frustrating, her only solace being in the fact that they were forced to run like cowards.
and it drags the softest, tiniest little ] Shit. [ out of her, frustrated and barely perceptible, as she quickly takes her weight off the leg.
placing a hand on his arm to steady herself, effectively giving him silent permission, she looks back at him again. ] I think I just need to sit down for a sec.
no subject
If you are sure, miss....? I'm Sanji. Nice to meet you, even if it had to be in these unfortunate circumstances. [ He looks her up and down, noticing and cataloging the scratches, they're not life-threatening but still bad, and he's cursing in his mind the men that caused them.
After Aerith puts a hand on his arm, Sanji shifts his posture to properly steady her, his own hand going to her waist for support. ]
That sounds like a good idea. [ Lucky for them, there's a bench only a few feet away. ] I could also carry you if you want.
no subject
so, lucky for him, his vibes are just right for her to actually allow it, her voice taking on a soft, sort of whimsical tone — something that makes it difficult to tell whether she's joking or not, her smile contributing to it all. ]
Hmm. Well, so long as you take me out to dinner afterward...
[ why must she be so difficult sometimes. ]
The names Aerith, by the way.
no subject
The playful jokes make Sanji's shoulders lose their remaining tension. He's glad to see that she can still keep some good humor after the awful experience with those other men, and Sanji hopes he can help cheer her up some more. Besides, that particular answer has him grinning, because; ]
Oh, have I mentioned that I'm a cook? Anything you can ask for or imagine, I can cook it for you.
[ Anyone saying that might sound cocky, but there's nothing but the utmost sincerity in Sanji's tone, and he clearly wants to do something nice for her beyond offering company. Not like being in the presence of such a lovely girl isn't rewarding enough for him. ]
That's a very pretty name, fitting. [ Sanji leads her towards the bench, first smiling at her and then looking down to check her injured leg. It's while doing so that he notices that her braid is coming undone. The ribbon at the end is loose enough that their walking makes it slip further down and fall, but Sanji catches it with a hand before it can end on the ground. ]
Oops. Do you need help with this too?
no subject
[ she seems to be having fun with the idea of it, at the very least, sitting carefully on the bench and clapping her hands together in front of her in interest.
she'd like to take him up on his offer, but then the issue of her braid is presented to her, distracting her for the time being. her braid is kind of important, in that she keeps something of sentimental value tied up within the top bow. luckily, it was only the bottom one to come undone, but still... ]
Huh? Are you sure...? [ her voice's lightness falters a little here, feeling a bit guilty the more time and effort he spends on her. ] You know how to braid?
[ color her surprised. not a common skill for men where she's from. ]
no subject
[ It's probably not a question that random strangers normally ask people, but that's Sanji for you. He likes to cater to people's needs and wishes, especially if those people are as nice and pretty as Aerith. He's also happy that she found the idea appealing rather than weird.
Sanji also knows how important hair can be, he half hides behind his own on the regular too, so he understands her priorities. At the question, he beams. ]
When I was little, I used to braid my ...mentor's mustache. [ There's a brief pause there, Sanji almost said 'dad' but he decided to keep it to himself at the last minute, even if the old Geezer isn't around to hear him. ]He still keeps it long, and keeping it braided is more practical while working in a kitchen. He's also a chef. I lived in ships all my life, and any good pirate knows their way around ties and reef knots, braids are but an extension of them.
[ Just casually mentioning that he's a pirate, as you do. Sanji doesn't hide what he is, and it's a fairly common profession where he's from anyway. ]
no subject
[ hm. she can think of plenty she likes — some sweets, and some the food her mom tended to make at home. but in this sort of situation, she'd much rather try something she hasn't had before — preferably something done-up and impossible to find (or maybe impossible to afford) in the slums. it sounds far more exciting than asking him to make her mom's stew, or something. ]
Instead, what's the most exciting thing you can make? [ turning the question back around to him... she's curious. and she wants to eat whatever it is.
and wait a minute he just said a whole lot of strange things but— ]
—Hold on, you're a pirate?
no subject
[ He also likes to keep others healthy, which is why he adds vegetables and fruit to Luffy's diet, even though the other man would be happy eating just meat all day and night. ]
He's not expecting to be asked a question back and has to pause for a second to mull about it. There are so many dishes he enjoys cooking, and so many recipes he has to try but has never had the chance to prepare because he was missing ingredients..
Oh, tricky question. When it comes to challenging and exciting dishes, I'd say... preparing the Draconic Super-Filleted Salmon. It's a species of salmon with a long body that brings to mind flying dragons. The flesh is more tender and delicious than beef tenderloin and is thought to bring good luck to those who eat it. But it has a big downside, the stomach is its most tender part and is particularly sensitive to a blade. It needs to be cut in a perfectly straight, singular cut that cannot be even a millimeter off, or it will trigger its defense mechanism. The fish's stomach pops like a balloon and explodes all of its delicious flesh into useless scraps.
[ To say it's tricky is an understatement. Sanji ended up covered in fish guts about three times before he managed to cut it properly, and he had to use a katana to do it. He doesn't seem taken aback by Aerith's surprise, simply nodding. ]
That I am. My crew and I are looking for adventure and a famous treasure called the One Piece. It's been an entertaining trip so far.
no subject
Wow... Sounds really involved. [ she's a little in awe at it? but then also: ] So then, can you make it for me? If you're a pirate, then all that's got to be easy for you!
[ aerith immediately going to asking for it. he's the one who brought it up anyway! ]
A walk in the park!
[ just hammering in that it's gotta be totally easy for him and she wants to try it. she's not even phased (in a negative way) by him being a pirate, just... interested? ]
no subject
Cooking can be like that. [ One that Sanji loves to do daily. It takes a lot to keep his captain well fed, with the amount of food Luffy needs to eat on a regular basis to keep his energy up. ]
I'm afraid that Draconic Salmon isn't easy to find around these waters, I haven't seen any in the market. But fear not, I can make you an exquisite dish regardless with King Salmon. Have you ever tried honey-garlic-glazed salmon?
[ It's to die for, and if Aerith never had it, Sanji will make sure to amend that tragedy. He can make all sorts of fancy food, but he's also the kind of chef who doesn't like to waste anything and doesn't need extra high-quality ingredients to make a savory dish. ]
Hah. It's tricky, but we all like a little challenge in our lives, don't we? [ He's relieved that she's not freaking out about him being a pirate. As casual as he tries to be about it, not everyone's a fan. ] And what does such a fantastic woman like you do for a living? Modeling, perhaps?

Percy is never going to let Cassandra live this down. Her first attempt at adventuring. Her first attempt at setting foot outside Whitestone’s borders, and she stumbles headlong into another world. She likes it here, though. It’s… something different. Wild and colourful and strange and she wants to explore it ALL. Learn everything she can about it.
(There are whispers in the back of her head. Whispers that wonder if she can’t… stay. If she can just… not return to Whitestone. What if she stays? She ignores them, for the moment. She has no way to return for the moment, anyway. So it’s out of her hands. She’s not exactly doing to her best to FIND a way, however.
There’s too much to see. Too much to learn. Too much to explore. She doubts Percy misses her much. She doubts he’s even noticed she’s gone.)
It’s taken her a little time to settle into the world. But settle in she has. It… feels a little like home, in a way that Whitestone hasn’t in a very long time. Despite the strangeness. And the danger. None of it is the worst thing she’s ever faced.
So she explores, learning on the fly about the world she’s found herself in, in an attempt to not make it exceedingly obvious that she doesn’t know what she SHOULD know about it. Fortunately she has a knack for improvisation and a way with words when she needs it.
She’s found herself at a tavern, and is doing her best to go unnoticed. Something she’s well practiced at. There are beats to the way people watch each other, and if you know what to look for you can pass between attention spans and go unnoticed in a full room. Hiding in plain sight. She’d learned that skill at a very young age. The distinctive white streaks through her long dark curls do stand out a little, but not nearly as much as she’d first expected. The world she’s found herself in is colourful, after all, and that includes hair colour.
Another reason she finds herself wanting to stay. She doesn’t have to be Cassandra Johanna von Musel Klossowski de Rolo, the last daughter of the ruling house of de Rolo, here. She can just… be Cassandra.
But she’s settled at the bar, at an out of the way corner, with a drink in front of her as she just… watches. Listens. Cassandra has no intention of starting anything, or doing anything to draw unnecessary attention to herself. Just minding her own business. Until, of course, someone does something and MAKES it her business. He’s easily twice her size, height-wise and width-wise, and he’s trying to accost one of the barstaff, a young woman with short curly black hair who’s simply trying to do her job. But he refuses to leave her alone.
Cassandra’s stepping in before she’s even conscious of doing so, slipping gracefully and easily between him and his chosen target of harassment, allowing the girl to take a few steps back and disengage a little. Purposefully drawing his attention. “What part of ‘she’s not interested’ don’t you understand?” she asks, casually, curiously, in a softly accented voice, head tilted, chin lifted just slightly in challenge. “And don’t you know better than to bother someone while they’re working? Really, where are your manners?”
Never let it be said that de Rolos don’t have a knack for finding trouble AND pissing people off. Often at the same time. (Somewhere, Percy is feeling both proud and stressed with no idea as to the cause.) She couldn’t just let him harass her. The mistreatment of others is… something of a sensitive subject to her. Particularly when there’s a power imbalance in any way. And combined with her occasionally startling lack of self-preservation… well, it’s better her than someone else.

[ Strange and dangerous are both good words to describe the island one might end up on when traveling the Grand Line. But who doesn't love some adventure? To make life worth living, you need to go out into the world and experience it firsthand, which is something Sanji has tried not to think about for years. It took him a lot of pushing to leave the Baratie behind; he still thinks of Zeff and the other chef often. He wonders how they might be doing without him, and even if he knows they're more than capable of dealing with asshole customers, he prays that they're safe from danger.
The tarn his crew found themselves in is even more lively and loud than the restaurant ever was, which isn't surprising considering the town's proximity to the Red Line. Plenty of pirates, Marines, and bounty hunters populate these waters, and they all need a break and some enjoyment before heading towards the New World. After all, it could very well be their last chance to celebrate anything.
Luffy isn't around, the captain doesn't enjoy drinking, and he's off with Usopp in search of some open food stalls. Nami and Zoro are having some sort of drinking competition by themselves, both equally stubborn but seemingly having a good time. After Sanji realizes that she is more than capable of matching Zoro, if not straight up outdrinking him, he lets them be. He's happy nursing his drink and looking around the tavern, listening to gossip, observing people, and falling a little bit in love with any pretty face that smiles back in his direction.
His eyebrows furrow once the sight of the arrogant, insistent customer giving one of the poor barmaids a hard time catches his eye. He stands up immediately, drinks and friends forgotten, enraged by the poor woman's treatment and ready to literally kick some manners in the other man.
A gorgeous-looking woman with long dark curls and a streak of snow-white hair beats him to it. It's good to see that other people are willing to stand up and fight for those who are not in a position to do so themselves.
The rude man, - by the looks of him a pirate- doesn't take the interruption well, one of his hands falling to rest on the hilt of the sword at his side. Sanji knows his type, men with big egos and little brain cells who had more drinks this day than showers all week. God knows he had to deal with these sorts of jerks in the past. While he doesn't want to underestimate the strength or capability of the brunette lady, he can't just sit back and watch something bad happen to her and the barmaid, so he steps closer. ]
The lady is right. I think it would be better if everyone returned to their own affairs. The evening is long, and there's no point in spoiling it so early, isn't it? [ Sanji says it with a smile on his face and a silky tone that drips menace. ]
no subject
She’s not used to this. She’s used to being on her own. She never expected someone to back her up. And there’s no missing the menace in his silky tone. A little smile flickers across her lips as she looks at him for a moment, before turning her attention back to the matter at hand, that smile shifting into a little smirk.]
If you had any sort of sense, you’d listen to him.
[She very much doubts he does. And that’s made evident in her voice.]
I'm so sorry about the late reply. Traveling + being sick did a number on me.
Frankly, he would rather pay more attention to the woman by his side. He doesn't miss the little smile that graces his features, and he is happy to see that his presence seems to put her more at ease. When that same smile turns into a grin and she addresses the other pirate, Sanji can't help but smirk as well.
As expected, the pirate doesn't take it well. He also doesn't bother with an elegant answer, opting to curse at them like a caveman and reach for his sword. The hand never makes contact with the weapon. Instead, is the sole of Sanji's polished shoe that hits the man in the solar plexus with a shift kick, sending him sprawling backward onto the floor. ]
I don't tolerate people being this rude in front of the ladies. [ His voice promises more violence if the man hasn't learned his lesson. Sanji's expression shifts and turns amicable once he looks back at the women. ]
I guess it was too much to expect, even a little manners, wasn't it? I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. Are you both okay? [ The barmaid girl gives him a nod and motions to leave, she still has work to do, so Sanji turns his attention to Cassandra. ] And you, miss...?
No worries! Hope you had a wonderful trip and that you're feeling better!
I don’t think he’s particularly inclined towards manners. Or a general understanding of when it’s better to not press his luck, for that matter.
[Does she care that he can hear her? Absolutely not. The man in question huffs angrily at her words where he’s lying sprawled on the floor. Or tries to; he’s too winded and breathless to manage it very impressively. She gives Sanji another smile. Brighter, this time.]
Cassandra. And I’m all right. Thank you for the help.
Thank you! I did, and I do C:
A shame. Luckily, not all of us are cavemen. It was my pleasure, Cassandra. A wonderful woman such as yourself shouldn't have to deal with drunkards or boorish men.
[ He also doesn't care if the other pirate hears them trash-talking him, they're telling the truth after all. And Sanji is sure he could take him with his eyes closed, he was just a small fry. ]
My name is Sanji. Are you a local, miss? My crew and I are staying for a little bit, and I was just starting to enjoy the view.
[ Sanji flashes her a smile, eyes locked on her face. ]
Apologies! I thought I hit post and it turns out I did not!
He isn’t the first. Nor will he be the last, probably. However his boorishness is vastly outshone by far better company.
[By you, Sanji. The smile she gives him is for him and him alone, her blue eyes warm.] It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sanji. No, I’m not local at all, but I had planned to stay here for a bit. Perhaps a bit longer, now.
No worries, it happens!
I'm glad to hear that. [ He has been pleasantly surprised by her own charming compliment, and the look Sanji gives her in return for that smile is honest and pleased. ]
Ah, I see. Ships meeting in the night, as they say. To leave this unpleasant incident behind us, what do you say about me inviting you to a drink? I'd like to get to know you better if you would grant me the pleasure of your company for a little while longer.
no subject
Makes them seem like a far rarer thing. (Or perhaps she’s just a little cynical, anymore.)
The invitation comes as a surprise, too, but another pleasant one. She thinks that spending a little longer in his company would make for a very fine evening indeed.]
I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.
