ANGST MEME



Sometimes we all want to play some angst and see just how far our characters will fall.

1. just depressed.
Things are tough, you're feeling worn out, or whatever the case, you're depressed. You need help or someone else thinks you do anyway.

2. abandoned.
You were left behind by everyone you hold dear and now you're forced to see how well they've adjusted, how happy they all are while you're screaming inside.

3. sick.
Cold, flu, or something even worse, all you can do is lay back and let someone take care of you.

4. fight.
You've been fighting nonstop with the other person and it just keep escalating.

5. break up.
You're being broken up with and they won't reconsider... Damn.

6. separated.
For some reason, you've been separated from the other person for a long time.

7. kidnapped.
You've been held captive for how long now? Maybe they've been torturing you even, using your blood to write ransom notes, threatening to cut off fingers to send next, etc. Rescue is on the way though, right?

8. beaten up.
Just because someone didn't like you or maybe they wanted something you had, whatever the case is, you're coming home sporting some nasty wounds and bruises.

9. jealousy.
You just have this undeniable jealousy suddenly and you need to let it out.

10. cheated on.
This goes beyond just suspicion and you have full on proof of what your lover has done. How do you handle it?

11. apathetic.
You're not sad, you're not happy, you just... don't feel much anymore. The sparkle of life has gone right out of you and you're just going through the motions now.

12. addicted.
Drugs, alcohol, whatever your drug of choice is, you can't fight the draw and you can't draw yourself out of the hole, but the other person is going to try.

13. bad romance.
You know this isn't good for either of you, but you can't stop now.

14. fear.
Nightmares, the feeling someone is following you, etc. You can't shake the feeling.

15. insanity.
You're seeing things and hearing them, waking up only to realize you've done things you don't remember or you're in a place you weren't before. You're losing it and you don't know what to do.

16. guilt.
It's eating you up inside and you have to tell someone about it now. You want to be punished and you won't take no for an answer.

17. loss
You've lost something dear to you.

18. wild card.
Combine some options or make your own!

[It hadn't been too long since the battle for the Hotel that had left not just the Hotel in disrepair, but a certain Overlord in quite a state. Wounds from Angelic weapons didn't heal quite so easily for Sinners which shouldn't come as a shock seeing as they were meant to kill. You weren't meant to actually survive an attack from one.

Alastor was keeping himself together with his own magic and playing it off as if he were completely fine when around the crew. It was only Husk who had caught on and started nagging him until he let the fallen Overlord in on his sorry state. They'd run out of bandages so Alastor popped out to replenish the stock when something caught his attention. A voice--a familiar one--arguing with another Sinner. Whoever the other Sinner was, he didn't care. But Alastor needed to know if that voice was who he thought it was.

So, into the alley he went, a tendril crawling out of the shadows to spear the unknown Sinner in the chest so he could get a better look at the owner of the voice he recognised...]

Well, well, well... [Alastor crooned, looking far too pleased.] Isn't this a sight?

She was staring.

She would have blamed it on the low native lighting but implying that she couldn't see in the dark was too absurd a fiction to entertain. She knew full well why she was staring, why she was stood in the booth a row over from his own. Why all her attention was locked on him rather than on the torturer talking at her.

Soji was staring because, despite truly astronomical odds, she knew that face.

It didn't help that the agonizers were designed as a spectacle, of course. They were show pieces, museum cases displaying famous little tidbits of conquest, a gallery of degenerates to poke and prod at. Even when inactive, the transparent booths were lit from above and below, casting every prisoner in stark, pittiless contrast. There wasn't enough space in any of them for someone to collapse--that might ruin the visual, the ambiance. Even the ones who weren't hanging by their wrists were just slumped against the glass, waiting for the next round of shocks.

Soji was better than this--thanks to him--she should have played along and minimized the risk...but the shock of that face had smashed through her resolve. Her play-acting was forgotten the moment she spied him. That was unacceptable--no, it was fine. The imperials had already played their part. She had just needed them to bring her here. From the moment they transfered her to a booth, there was no longer a point in putting on a show.

Unprofessional.

The imperial on the outside was talking to her about something, asking her questions, attempting to interrogate her maybe? She didn't care and he took being ignored very poorly. When he activated the booth, with a vindictive glint in his eyes, Soji barely flinched. The energy dispersed across her skin faster than the booth could push it out, sliding off her like water.

It was too obvious. She was being too obvious.

She could almost hear the rebuke in his voice, like a nagging presence sitting on her shoulder. This was not subtle, this was foolish. The torturer became confused quickly. He cranked up the levels on the controls to no effect.

Sloppy. Amateur. Once more, with feeling.

No.

Soji fought the urge to return to pretending, to follow the initial plan. This wasn't infiltration. She didn't need information, didn't need to minimize her presence, didn't need to be quiet about things. This was a smash and grab, retrieval of a single asset from the tube diagonally across from her. Of course, elimination was an option--

No.

The imperial officer attempting to torture her was starting to panic. He was calling others over and they were coming armed. She really had to wrap this up.

The imperials had used standard cuffs, they snapped at the first tug of her wrists. Without hesitation, Soji drove her arm through the wall of the agonizer and caught her interrogator by the throat. The glass fractured in a spiderweb of cracks as she yanked him into it and, subsequently, ripped a significant chunk of his trachea free from his body.

Briefly, Soji felt a distant twinge of disgust, then she felt nothing at all.

A palm strike against the fractured glass broke the whole pane free from the frame. It crumpled over the thrashing guard, rather than shattering into a thousand free pieces. It was, ironically, safety glass. Soji stepped out of the booth as casually as you please. They'd taken her shoes--presumably to prevent any insulation against the current in the booth. At the moment it was largely just annoying. The draped, mangled pane of glass crackled as she walked over it and through the mess that thrashing interrogator was making of the floor.

She barely noticed the remaining two imperials as they rushed her. She killed the first one with a punch to the sternum and promptly impaled the second on his weapon. It was reflex at this point, muscle memory. Once they were still and the room quiet save for the thrum and sparking of the agonizers, Soji dropped the dead weight and stepped up to his booth.

She checked the serial number on the booth, the coordinates, even the energy signature. Every one of them was accurate to the intelligence she'd been given. They hadn't told her who she was here for--just some agent who knew too much. Someone who was too risky to leave in captivity.

Of course it was him. How could it be anyone else?

"Gabriel Lorca?" Soji asked and it wasn't really a question.
