It's all fun and games until Bucky abruptly snaps. Hard to say what set him off in the end. He had always been fickle, irritable, unpredictable. Excessively generous tolerance for pain and for neglect, but ultimately not easy to tame. Perhaps Oeznik's prolonged absence had made Zemo less restrained? Perhaps Bucky didn't get his usual respite without Oeznik to feed and bathe him and shield him from Zemo's attention? Is Bucky just throwing a tantrum because he'd gone one day too many without food, or had his favourite blanket (his only blanket) taken away from him?

Regardless, Zemo is finding out the consequences of playing with this fire that Oeznik had warned him about. His throat is a warm, fragile, soft stress ball under a cold and unfeeling metal hand, pinned against an equally cold and unfeeling wall of the barn that rattles against his skin from how hard Bucky had slammed him back against it. Bucky could crush his windpipe without flinching, without even blinking. His jaw is clenched tight, steely gaze glaring into Zemo's eyes. Any sign of fear and that laboured, strained breath might be his last.
