[He’s never heard of a car before so let’s just put that one aside for now.]

You don't have to fight me at all. If you want to prove you can meet any of those challenges, do it. Otherwise, go home.

[The easy thing to do would be to just wander off before getting involved. But somewhere did inside, the remains of Ziel’s pride as a sacred artists flickered fitfully.]

Just the one, then. The Oathsign.

[He held out a hand and a circle of runes forged themselves out of nothing, floating in a ring in the air.

Once he was done, he picked up a pebble and flicked it through the ring, which abruptly accelerated it like so it was moving as fast as a bullet. It plinked off a nearby wall, leaving a dent.]

Depending on how I forge it, it will speed up or slow down anything passing through it.

[ Says Piccolo, who has never named anything well in his life.

He examines the technique in use, eyes flicking to follow the pebble's movement. He steps in the path of the ring, holding up his palm. ]

Go again.

[ He wants to feel it, not just see it. ]

[Once upon a time, Ziel had poets come up with names for his techniques, full of layered meaning.

He doesn’t bother with that much effort anymore, but any good technique needs SOME kind of name.

Rather than explain this or defend his naming choices, Ziel just waits until Piccolo is in position, then flicks another pebble at him. It impacts Piccolo’s palm with the force of a small caliber handgun.

So not much force at all, for either of them. But then, he clearly isn’t trying very hard.]

[ The stone bullet doesn't even reach Piccolo's palm, as he catches it between two claws. His index and ring finger, specifically. The finger position might look a bit weird, but the reason becomes clear when he draws his middle finger back, catching it with his thumb to flick the pebble.

He aims it at Ziel's feet, as it embeds itself into the ground. ]

You're not showing me what this can really do, are you?

No.

[For a moment, Ziel considered just...leaving it at that. But there's still a smidge of pride left, despite everything, and the Oathsign is a very versatile technique. And his madra channels are...sort of healed. It only hurts a fraction of what it used to.

With a sigh, Ziel picked the pebble out of the ground, then heaved himself to his feet as he forged half a dozen more green rings around his arm.

When he threw the pebble this time, it's probably a good thing he wasn't aiming at Piccolo because it went through a wall with a sonic boom, and several more walls behind it.]

Well, I cannot refuse that. What are the customs for duels where you come from?

[ Oh, how rare for him to meet an Earthling nearly as tall as him! It's nice not to have to look so far down. ]

Hm. I wouldn't say customs... but I have no desire to kill needlessly, so maybe we could use the World Martial Arts Tournament rules. They're simple enough.

[ Piccolo holds out a hand to the side, palm down. Turning it over slowly, the ground contorts and when he thrusts a finger upwards, it solidifies into a simple square of raised stone. ]

Combatants lose if they make contact with the outside of the arena or are unable to stand for ten seconds. Normally, there are rules about not using weapons, but I don't mind if you want to use them.

[It's a good trick to create an arena, though Tazendra idly wonders what this man's people use for such things -- she can think of at least two different ways it can be done.]

In truth, I am not trained for unarmed combat, but I would regret killing a sparring partner with my blade.

Is sorcery permitted?

If you're not trained for it, it won't be a challenge for me. And trust me, I'm very hard to kill. A blade will be fine. Use magic if you like too- it wouldn't be the first time I fought a magic user.

[ He has a little magical power himself, and observing its use could be useful to him. Stealing tricks is what a fighter does.

He steps up onto the 'ring', cape fluttering lightly. He won't be taking that off until he's sure she's a challenge- it and his turban are weighted enough to impact his performance. ]
