THE TRAIN TO THE AFTERLIFE

Congratulations! your character is dead — for whatever reason, whether it be canon, au, what have you. it'll be a bit of a journey to the afterlife, though, so your character might as well talk to the other people. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be familiar people, whether recently deceased or long so. maybe your character know how they died, maybe they don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear. maybe it was simply their time or maybe they weren't at all ready to go, but none of it matters. your character knows they're dead and the train is taking them to an afterlife.

[ What happens to souls who are deified long after death? Apparently they get a whole private car! The first Lord of Sendai's room is lavishly decorated, all cotton sheets and silk curtains, gold trim and incense smoke, and it also happens to be on the way to the food car.

Or sometimes he's the one to intrude on other passengers. Perhaps someone's caught a glimpse of an azure dragon racing alongside the train, only for it to suddenly vanish-- only for Masamune to be sitting across from them, already pouring some sake.

Or make something else up. Assume afterlife cr if you want. I'm flexible. ]

( this is not her first time on this train, and probably won't be the last. any moment she knows she'll just be yeeted off the train and sent back to the living world and do all of this again because fucking time loops. so for now she's just sprawled out, her feet up on the seat across from her, she might be humming a little. )

[ Ludo is on the train, staring straight ahead - hasn't moved for the past ten minutes, as if afraid that simply blinking will snap him back to reality and force him to dwell on the fact that he's here because his own flesh and blood strangled him to death.

He's keeping it together remarkably well, considering.

God, he needs a cigarette. Or a drink. Or both. ]

[Either he's used to very short trips on this train, or it's a place he never expected to see, depending on the desired level of angst.]

[He's been here a while, practically made a home of the place, none of the stops the train has made so far have been his, but that's alright, there's always people to talk to around here.]

[Hers was clearly not a peaceful death if the way she's wedged her back into the corner of the compartment so she can see the door and startles at any loud sound or talking is any indication.]

[Either someone got lucky, or he was drunk and sarcastic and probably said something like 'what are you going to do? stab me?']

[This is... definitely not what he expected. The fact that he doesn't have a mark on him now is something that he knows should be reassuring, but is actually a little distressing, no proof that it worked even though he knows it did, it had to.]

[Maybe she's here on a job, looking for those who have died more than once and not been clocked for it, maybe it's finally her turn. Could be both!]

[Depending on how much angst we want, he's either been here before for a bunch of short trips, or he's surprised to be here for real.]

Hope you weren't trying to nap, Joe. A young man with coppery curls is leaning over a little from the opposite seat.

"Do you have any cigarettes? I was thinking of quitting, but that seems pointless now."

[She's had a few close calls before, but this is the first one that's stuck.]

[He probably looks a little shell-shocked still, occasionally running his fingers over his arms or knees, or checking his hands and arms for damage that just isn't there anymore.]
