Maybe. I mean, it was completion for the person that wrote it. Last song on his last album, didn't have many more songs after it. Always leaned more sorrowful for me.

I figured it would, I can't imagine you ever seeing setting music aside as a good thing. Me, I just find the notion of being done unsatisfying.

It does seem to be. That's part of why I took Lorelai's offer way back when. Never had to let time tell me I was done.

I didn't know it at the time, but I'd been blacklisted. No career to speak of doing the only thing I wanted to do, felt like we were all screaming into a void about the war, and Sam was just gone... Going with her felt like the only thing to do.

Makes sense. Finding any option is better than feeling like you have none. Did you know ahead of time everything that went into being turned? The hearing songs in your head and all of that?

I had inklings. She didn't tell me anything direct, I think because she was worried I wouldn't take the offer and didn't want to catch heat for a masquerade break if I turned her down in the end. But I knew she was dead, in a way. Only ever saw her at night. That she drank blood to keep going, and that going with her meant I'd have to leave everything behind me. All those fiddly details about constant music in my head and all the politics came after.

I was about to ask whether knowing would have made a difference. Then I remembered, I find questions like that rather pointless. We never know the true full fallout of our decisions. And what we'd do in hindsight is always skewed.

Selfishly, I'm glad you're still around to have met you.

To be fair, I don't think it would've made much difference at all. Not like I was ever real big on making pros and cons lists for my choices. And for all the regrettable things that've happened in between and the things I've missed, I don't regret it.

I'm glad, too. Would've been a shame to miss out on you.
