A meme where you get to dole out the sweetest affirmation when you're getting down and dirty? Must be all about that praise kink!

how to play

- comment with your character, prefs, what role they'd play (praise-giver/praised), etc. if your character's the type to throw out the positive reinforcement, your one-line starter can go in the top level! (ie, "good pet," you know how it do)
- on the other end of the spectrum, should your big dumb mess want to soak up all that affection, people commenting to you will bring the line of dialogue.

It bothers him, the way Fjord's magical disguise proves necessary in these realms. Civility should not vanish so quickly at a glimmer of green skin. It makes Loki want to stride through the streets in his Jotun glory just to see if he would inspire similar distaste. To dare anyone to say so much as a word...

It doesn't matter tonight, though. They're camped well outside and city or village, and as the embers of the campfire burn low, Loki sits beside him and cradles his chin in one hand, gentle but irresistibly possessive. "It's maddening how they speak to you. Of you. You deserve so much better."

The downside of travelling the more isolated areas. The people who live there tend to be less varied, more suspicious. Some outposts and towns prove the opposite, those where survival tends to require working together, but those that are just large enough to be comfortable? The people have time to be a bit more... judgmental.

Fjord barely clocked it typically. If he noticed it, usually he'd just take on that pleasant, personable persona. If he thought the mood was especially dark, then he'd slip away quietly, cast his magic, and they'd not spend any more time than absolutely necessary in the area. Honestly, he wasn't mad that they'd decided against staying in the town this time. It was just less stressful.

He couldn't help the way his face flushed a bit at Loki's comment, not resisting that hand at his chin. "It'll calm down once we get back to actual civilization. Folk here probably only see my sort every couple years if that, probably still believe that whole curse superstition..."

His clasp gentles a little, without quite releasing him, and Loki's thumb brushes a soft line just under his cheekbone. "You're not a sort...you're you."

He sighs, because he does understand. He's the god of outcasts; he understands all too well. That doesn't mean he has to like it, seeing someone he cares for being mistreated. "I suppose you'd be upset with me if I cursed them for being rude. It'd only reinforce superstitions."

Fjord can't help it, that gentle sweep of a thumb just has him tilting his head into the touch without even realizing he's doing it. While he tries to sweep aside the way people react to him in places like this, it just makes him all the more needy for that positive regard and affection that Loki has for him.

The dry remark earns a slow smile from him either way, a soft huff of a chuckle. "I'd be a little fussed, yeah. Even if they had it comin'."

"They have no idea how lucky they are. I wouldn't just go about killing people willy-nilly, of course--" Not at this point in his life, anyway. He hates loose ends but overall killing people is just a waste.

"--but if you weren't such a good heart I would be delighted to take it upon myself to give them a very bad day."

So maybe he's spoiling for a fight, just a little. His anti-conscience is full of ideas. Hopefully Fjord can turn his brain to better uses.

"I'll look forward to slightly more polite society in days to come." He moves his hands up to ruffle his friend's hair, leaning in to nuzzle their foreheads together. "Although there's nothing wrong with just the two of us."

It was a heady thing just to have someone squaring up on his behalf in general, let alone a god. Fjord wasn't even sure what to do with the idea.

"Civilization has nicer baths too," Fjord pointed out with a soft hum for those fingers in his hair, gaze lidding partly as any tension left over from the situation earlier was fleeing in the face of his companion's attention. "Can't say I'm mad that I get to keep you all to myself for a bit though."

There's a lot to be said, Loki knows, for having someone completely biased in one's favor. Even if-maybe especially if-it's an irrational bias. It means a lot to hear someone say 'I'm on your side because it's your side'.

"You know, I have a strict preference for cool baths," he tells Fjord archly. "There aren't many who'll join me in those. Not without complaining, anyway."

Although given his experience with the ocean, Fjord is better equipped to handle Loki's bathwater preferences than most. "Mm. Scented candles, though? Woodsmoke is pleasant but I could handle a little lavender and hyssop about now."

He kisses the bridge of his nose and smiles into his eyes. "All to yourself, indeed. And what is it you plan to do with me?"

"Big enough city and they'll have special accommodations just for cool baths. Complete with candles, and whatever drinks or snacks you might want." There was one thing Wildmount had going for it- when they did bath houses? They didn't scrimp. And while he might have a preference for hot water soaks, he found cool water invigorating enough that he'd certainly not mind it. Especially not if it was to spend time with Loki.

"I haven't planned that far," Admitted with a bit of a warmer grin, scrunching his nose lightly at the kiss playfully. "Just glad I've got you, and not much inclined to share your company at the moment."

"See, this is why I need you to be my tour guide," he says, as if he didn't come to this realm specifically seeking Fjord out. "Clearly you know the best places."

He hums quietly, acknowledging the comment, then pulls Fjord into a lazy kiss, curling the fingers of his left hand into the fabric at the back of his shirt. "All right, then. You can just...consider all your options, while I take some time to adore you properly."

The kiss was more than welcome, the half-orc returning it with no small bit of warmth. He always felt affection for Loki it was true, but the stark contrast of his reception in these smaller towns, and the kindness his lover always held for him just made it that much more apparent. He let out a low, almost-chuff, lips scrawling to a smile as the kiss was broken, arms slipping around Loki in response.

"Gotta be careful or you'll spoil me, and I'll be useless for anything," Accused in a lightly teasing tone, tilting his forehead to rest against Loki's a moment. "A right terror. Then where'll you be?"

"I will be pleased with myself beyond measure, that's where I'll be," he answers, and leans more of his weight into him. "Someone should spoil you."

"If I could have taken you to Asgard, I would. They wouldn't be all that pleasant to you there, either, but it would only be because you're not Aesir. Nothing to do with your bloodline."

"Well I can't say I'll be complainin' if you decide to do just that, if we're bein' honest." It took little thought to just slide in closer at that lean, to let a leg slot between Loki's just to assist in the pair of them cuddling closer with a soft, pleased little hum.

"So long as I had you with me, they can fuss all they like."

It was definitely a step towards self-confidence, the idea that rather than worrying about anyone and everyone's opinions of him, the half-orc's concern had narrowed down quite sharply, and of the small group of companions he might worry about? Loki was the only one around at the moment.

And he might also rank the highest amongst everyone, but shhh.

Loki blinks thoughtfully at what sounds like a subtle shift in attitude. It's easy to be comfortable with oneself when you're in dear company, cuddling and looking towards the prospect of further intimacy, but still. It's a change for the better, and the thought that Loki has contributed is...new. New and wonderful.

"It makes a difference, doesn't it?" He says softly. "Having someone unabashedly in your corner, so to speak."

He slides down a little and pillows his head in the center of Fjord's chest. "I feel it, too."

"It's... not really somethin' I had before," He responded softly, unable to help but thread fingers through Loki's hair as he was relaxing against him. "I mean... the Nein definitely have my back, but that's... still new."

And while Vandran had been a good captain, he'd been more supportive in a way of expectations than being unashamedly in Fjord's corner. It would have been... too much vulnerability for the man to have allowed. So the sort of comfort that Fjord finds from Loki's presence is definitely new, and definitely something he likes.

"Like it best from you, I'm findin' though."

"You have beautiful eyes. Whomever gets to stare into them at night is lucky." Sure, this isn't the usual way one praises a god but then Aarne isn't one who believes gods are without human traits.

This compliment is met with a slow, sweet smile. They flirt often, the two of them, though it never feels like a prelude to romance. More like it's just the way they communicate naturally, with bursts of flowery affection.

"Well, I do tend to sleep at least part of the night," he teases. "So they only get a few hours of eye contact, whoever they are. Still, that's a charming thing to say."

Flirting is natural to Aarne and a show of trust. It's more the safety to be playful than any desire for romance, especially now.

"You aren't one who spends all night talking in bed under the covers?" Aarne winked in response to the teasing tone. "The universe is cheated if someone doesn't get to stare into them all night, sometimes."

"Not any longer," he laughs softly. "There was a time I spent half the night reading under the covers by magelight, but Thor was the only one to get a glimpse of my eyes back then, and I don't think he was all that impressed."

He considers a moment, then adds: "Mind you, this isn't my natural eye color, either. I wear an illusion, ever since I was a child."

Long story, and perhaps one that's better left untold, by and large, but Loki imagines if any human could handle a glance at the Jotun form, this one can.

Aarne thought it was cute to think about Loki and his brother as children. "You should find someone to look into your eyes and talk in bed until sunrise."

He wasn't necessarily thinking about familial gazing though he had curled up in a blanket fort with his sister more than once. The revelation wasn't surprising at all. "Humans can't look at all the spirits. I'm not surprised that you use something to hide what we can't or shouldn't look at."

To Aarne, none of this was out of the ordinary. He spoke with spirits in a less concrete way than he did with Loki.
