unexpected domesticity meme. you never thought you'd have a home, at least not one you can call completely yours, no strings attached and no one lording above you or controlling you. you may not have even known what a "home" truly is, or thought you wanted one. now, there is a touch of domesticity in your life, no matter what things are like otherwise, because you have a home, though you may not have a house proper.
most importantly, you now have someone to share this new facet of life with - a partner. similar to you or completely different, relationship unspoken or unrealized, heavily romantic or understated, they are slowly but surely becoming someone indispensable to you. you never could have seen this coming. and, of course, with domesticity comes a certain amount of intimacy, perhaps even the ultimate physical intimacy...you may be open to that already or you're working up to it when you'd hardly considered it before.
whether your situation is for the long term as it stands, could end at any moment, or a mere disguise you're using to lay low, you're getting comfortable. how does that make you feel? will you it accept a new lease on life - or will you sabotage yourself before someone else does?

Paradis was really rather pretty compared to Marley. Especially compared to the parts of Marley she was used to - which was to say, the training yards, the internment zones, and the warfronts. There wasn't really a good reason for her to be outside, other than that she could. The small fire she had going could easily have been built inside, or even in a stove. The water she was boiling in a teapot - that was certainly more suited to the stove. But the two cups with their little drawstring bags of tea had an unmistakable use.
Only once the water was happily boiling did Pieck use the hook to pull the pot from the fire, then, as if she'd done it quite a few times before, poured each cup full to let the tea begin to steep. She had the little clay sugar bowl set nearby. She, at least, liked her tea sweetened a little bit.
She pushed the door open behind her, calling lightly inside, "Captain? I've got some tea steeping for you if you'd like to join me."
An offer instead of a demand, and once she'd made that offer, she stepped over to one of the boxes she'd set up on end, gathering her skirt behind her heels so she could sit.
Levi looks up at the call from Pieck and the offer of tea. He glances at the papers he had been mulling over but they could wait for a time at least. It'd been a while since he'd last taken a break. It's shortly after she'd gone to sit that he comes to join her.
"I like to be outside here." It was an important distinction. "I've never really had the chance to enjoy scenery. The hills, the trees - it's lovely. And I don't have to think about digging a trench for the gunners, or if our encampment is in view of enemy sharpshooters. It's quite nice."
Pieck gave him a smile, her teacup held in both hands - one on the little curl of a handle, one lightly supporting the bottom. It was, after all, still pretty hot. Not necessarily worth burning her fingers on.
Levi nods as he takes in the emphasis. Quietly, he listens as she continues and there's still so much to take in about the rest of the world, about the experiences that she's had that not long ago seemed like a fairytale as terrible as they are, they wouldn't have felt possible.
He takes the other cup as he looks from her to their surroundings. In a way, he had started taking outside of the walls for granted.
"It had never been enough."
The scouts had always been searching for more, rarely taking in what was already around them.
"It's about what you're used to," Pieck said, lifting her cup for another sip. "I got to go to Hizuru once, when we were doing some negotiations. And you know Marley. They can't send anyone anywhere without a convenient weapon at their side."
And she knew what she was, with or without her Panzer Unit. A convenient, five-foot-nothing weapon that only occasionally needed feeding.
"But it was a chance to see somewhere without Marley attacking it at the time."
Levi considers that and it does ring true to him as he takes a sip of the tea and lowers the cup. He looks out over the view and even if there had always been different motives for him in the Scouts, he has to admit that the land is beautiful. The first time he’d really seen it there had been moments of awe, how could there not be for someone that had grown up the way he did. It’s harder for him to imagine why a land like Marley would be so intent on wars. There had been no existential threat at their doors, they weren’t trapped…and yet it hadn’t been enough for them.
Perhaps that’s human nature.
“I couldn’t have imagined some of the places that you have seen,” he smiles small and very briefly. “I should appreciate the view that I’ve been able to have more.”
That fleeting smile was one she returned, though hers lingered. "Everyone should appreciate their surroundings a bit more, I think," she said, "but what is the saying... Familiarity breeds contempt? We all get used to things and eventually neglect them."
But what he'd said... Now she was thinking back to all of the places she'd seen, usually from the eyes of her titan, and damned if she could think of them as anything but battlefields. Points of advantage, places where she'd have suitable footing, locations that could hide her titan form or her transformation. It made her chuckle. "I'd bet," Pieck began, looking over at him, "that you look at places with an eye for where ODM gear would get good purchase and what trajectories you could manage."
Levi contemplates that and wonders what all it is that he might have neglected, aside from appreciating his surroundings that is. He brushes the thought off as he takes another sip of tea.
"That's how I look at everything," there's no point in denying the obvious truth, after all.
"I envy that a little." Pieck turned to face him, amusement on her face. "So much of your military training was the different ways you could move. So much of mine was me holding still in my titan's neck."
Pieck chuckled, motioning with her cup - "Careful, Captain, or I'll take you up on an offer you didn't intend to make. It was my understanding you didn't deal with training brand new recruits."
A light sort of teasing. She knew there wasn't really much reason for her to learn to use ODM gear except that she simply didn't know how all while Reiner and Annie had proven themselves on it. Perhaps it was just a want to feel like she measured up.
"I don't usually but you're hardly green," Levi replies simply. He takes another sip and studies her. He hadn't actually intended to make an offer and yet here he is not backing down from it either.
Smile still in place, Pieck said, "You have a point - after all, I'm used to looking at things from a certain angle, just with using my feet instead of hooks and lines. I would have to get used to wearing pants, though." And that was something of a drawback. She'd worn skirts for so long that she felt strange when she wasn't. However - "The boots are rather appealing."
"It's not as if you'd have to wear them all the time," Levi says and he glances down at his own boots. "They are quite nice," he agrees with the hint of a smile.
That hint of a smile got more of hers. "They make even my legs look long. It's impressive. And it might even be a reason to wear pants."
Pieck's smile broke into a few moments of soft laughter, ending into another sip of tea - and another subject that occurred to her with it. "I'm reminded - have you ever had a tea made out of flowers?"
"Roses make a very light tea," she offered. "And hibiscus tea is sweet and tangy at the same time. I would bet some of the rich people in the interior have both roses and hibiscus in their gardens." And, just to judge by her smile, she was sure she could charm some of those rich people into letting her pick some flowers.
That small smile of his got the full light of hers. "Why, Levi," she grinned, "you're going to make people jealous, giving me a smile like that. But don't worry. I'll keep the secret if you want."
She chuckled. "Well, you do know them better than I do. I just know that everyone talks about you as a very private person. I've seen that for myself. So I'll just count myself lucky to have gotten a rare smile from Captain Levi Ackerman."
Pieck, however, didn't hide her smile as she said, "I'll have to mark it on my calendar and take an average. Right now, my sample size is a little small. But..."
But she lifted her cup to her lips and took a drink, closing her eyes to really take in the flavour before finishing with, "I have a good feeling about it."
[Nozel spends most of his time often in his office or at the barracks when not on the job or tending to the family politics, I think he'd welcome just moments of relaxed domesticity that don't involve his work as a captain or as a noble--Just as family, or perhaps someone's spouse/fiance if it goes the romantic route.]

"Thank you," he takes a seat on another box.
"You prefer to be outside it seems."
