the bodyguard meme

You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.
And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.
Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.
Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?
How to Play
1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference. 2. Comment to others. 3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.
- Promise ✖ You told them you would take care of their lover, no matter what. You intend to follow through with that.
- Close ✖ What are friends for if not taking care of unfinished business?
- Debt Owed ✖ Kindness or favor has to be repaid, even if it's an investment in someone else.
- Atonement ✖ Whether or not you particularly cared for the person who's gone is irrelevant. You just need to make up for past sins.
- No Good ✖ You're taking care of the one left behind, but not out of good intentions. There may be ulterior motives here - no, there are definitely ulterior motives here. Or maybe this is the one good thing you've done in your life.
- Guilt ✖ It's your fault that you're here and their significant other isn't. It's a paltry repayment.
- Bearer of Bad News ✖ You can't blame them for wanting to shoot the messenger. You are telling them their lover is dead.
- Related ✖ In days past, the living partner would be cared for by their dead partner's family. As a sibling or cousin of the deceased, you want to continue that tradition and take care of "family."
- Wo/man Up ✖ Actually, their lover isn't dead, they're just dead to you, unable or unwilling to take care of business. You're stepping up.
- Friends ✖ You were all friends before, so it's only natural for you to want to look out for them now.
- Derisive ✖ ...this is the person they loved so much? This is who you're supposed to protect? Pathetic.
- Resentful ✖ You can never forgive them. They're the reason your lover is dead, no matter how they treat you.
- What They Saw in You ✖ You're beginning to see why someone would love them, how they'd want to give up their old ways and change. It's almost...nice.
- Warming Up ✖ If you didn't get along at first, the claws are being put away now. It's better to at least be civil, isn't it?
- Still in Danger ✖ Whatever killed one half of the pair is still out there, and the other half is in danger themselves.
- Other Complications ✖ Not only did your mutual acquaintance leave behind a lover, but also children. You find yourself getting closer and closer to them, too, even if they aren't yours.
- Compromised ✖ You can't look after them with a level head. You love them.
- Can't Love Again ✖ You've lost before. You can't risk losing again, can you?
- Out of the Dark ✖ One or both of you find yourselves in a hole. You can barely eat, hardly sleep, and depression has taken hold of you. Together, though, you may find the light and a way out of despair.
- First Time ✖ Simply what it says. You two have taken your relationship to the next level.
- Changed ✖ Before, you were bitter. Hard. Jaded. Now, helping someone - specifically, helping this person - has brought a new kind of joy into your life. You could get used to it. Easily and dangerously used to it, to be brutally honest. You shouldn't allow it.
- Living Together ✖ You can take care of them more throughly if you're in the same place as they are, obviously.
- Hidden Jealousy ✖ When their lover was alive, you were jealous of everything they had - including the fact that they had the person you're looking after now. Admitting this may make you feel like the most awful person in the world.
- Secrets Revealed ✖ Eventually, your involvement with the death of their beloved will come out, and they will never be able to look at you the same way.
- Dependent ✖ Replacing one unhealthy habit with another, you've become utterly dependent on your relationship with your caretaker, your guardian, your lover.
- Won't Be a Replacement ✖ You can't help but feel as if you're merely serving as a stand in for what they've lost. It's understandable, yet you still can't allow yourself to be that and only that.
- Not Really Gone ✖ What is dead should stay dead, but what if who you thought was gone isn't really out of the picture? Will they be happy with finding someone else so cozy and in love with their special someone?
- The Same Mistakes ✖ You're falling into the same patterns that lead to their death. Will you meet the same fate?
- Who's Helping Who ✖ You think you're taking care of them and helping them through their loss. Is that the case? But who's never been this happy before in their life?
- Move On ✖ It's time to put ghosts to rest and let old demons go. You can't let your life become a graveyard.
- Tragedy ✖ The ending is unhappy or even deadly for both of you.
- Happy Ending ✖ In contrast to the above, you're both able to live as together as happily as you possibly can, whatever can be allowed.

Eren was afraid of Kenny from the first, though only in the vague way he tends to be afraid of most people. It's easy to be scared when people take away his power, cut him up or tie him up, make sure he can't get a scratch or bite his tongue. If he can't turn into a titan, what can he do?
It's a fear of failure as much as it's a fear of Kenny himself. He can't let everyone down. They're probably looking for him, putting themselves in danger for him again. He hates that, his own weakness, the way everyone has to rely on him because no one else can do what he can do. At least, no one on their side can.
He doesn't even know what the other side really is, what waits beyond the walls. Somewhere in his memory he must know it, the Founder and the Attack Titan carrying memories of the future, but his access to those is blocked. He just has dreams of…well, he's not sure. He still wakes up crying sometimes.
He hasn't slept since he got grabbed, though. But something shifted since then. Eren finds himself at least half-free of chains, of the metal in his mouth keeping him from biting. He thinks of running at first, but where will he go? He's not familiar with this part of the city. He doesn't know where the other Scouts are. Something is going on with the military higher ups that isn't even to do with him, but if Erwin loses his gamble then control of Eren slips away from Erwin and Levi and to who even knows who. Someone who will use him if they can (good luck to them; Eren is a hard person to use when he doesn't want to obey).
Besides that, Kenny is fast. Eren's seen him kill at least two men. He moves like…well, a little like Levi, he thinks, but maybe that's just the speed. He hasn't seen anyone else that fast besides Levi; even Mikasa isn't as fast. She might be one day.
They leave the city, breaking away from whoever it was Kenny was working for (Eren still can't follow the chain of command here) and into the woods. He panics a little, because how the hell is anyone going to find him here? He thinks of other kidnappers in the woods, men who he killed without a second thought. He'd have to be a titan to fight Kenny, and even then…
It's a big chance that Kenny is taking, leaving him able to bite, but Eren doesn't transform. He just follows for now.
"Why did you untie me?" he asks, half-demand to cover his lingering fear. "Where are we going?"
no subject
Kenny's not too worried about Eren transforming into a titan. He's fairly sure that he can take on titan Eren, if he's prepared. But he can't underestimate Eren as an opponent; he knows he might meet his match at last. Aware of the possibility of Eren's transformation, he's keeping himself in a perpetual state of readiness. He has to be prepared to evade or attack with a moment's notice. It's being caught unawares that would put him in the most danger.
When Eren speaks, Kenny's expression barely changes. His eyebrows rise slightly, and his lips just barely purse. "Huh? You say something?" Of course he heard what Eren said, but he has no intention of answering those questions. He's not one to give away his motivations or intentions lightly. He's used to keeping his own counsel.
Also, he's not sure if he could give a satisfactory answer. There are times he acts on instinct. He trusts his instincts, even if he can't always explain them. He's been called a dog before, and maybe there's some truth to that. Though wolf might be more accurate, since he's hardly domesticated. Like Eren, he's hard to use when he doesn't want to obey; there's only one person he's ever wanted to obey.
"You've gotta pull your own weight now." He's not interested in carrying Eren, and Eren needs to be able to eat and shit on his own.
Regardless of his motivations, here he is, with this monster brat. Now he has to deal with him. Although he can kill him, Eren's death isn't what he's after. He lets out a long breath. His gaze flickers upwards. It's getting dark. He doesn't mind that. The dark suits him. He knows these woods well enough to be confident that he has the advantage here, whether he's dealing with pursuers or Eren himself. Knowledge isn't the only kind of power, but it is power.
"Wouldn't run if I were you."
no subject
Unless he gets despondent or thinks it's the only thing he can do to help the others, Eren isn't easy to kill. He's managed to stay alive this long, though he'll be the first one to admit that it's often at the expense of others. People keep dying for him. He hates that. He has to get stronger, has to —
Has to get away from Kenny, who seems like a psychopath. For now, though, he takes the advice not to run. He can't do shit in the dark, titan or not. Can he even be a titan at night? He's not entirely sure; titans seem to stop at night, everyone knows that. It's not worth trying it and finding out the hard way. That leaves only his ability to reason or talk his way out of things.
He knows he has no chance, but if he can just find out something, then…that would be a start.
"I'm not gonna run. Where would I go?" he says, still argumentative because he's Eren. To prove his earlier point, he just stops and refuses to walk any further into the woods. Just because he might be in mortal danger doesn't mean he's not going to be as difficult as he can get away with until he gets his way about something.
no subject
"Don't owe anyone shit," he mutters, but as he says it, he's aware that isn't true. He carries a debt, but he has no one to pay it to. He's agitated and impatient, he doesn't hurry Eren onward when Eren decides to be stubborn. He's stubborn himself, and he recognizes it in others. He stays where he is too, regarding Eren thoughtfully.
"You're not wrong. Nowhere to run." He shrugs, allowing himself a quick expression of annoyance as he exhales sharply. The same is true of Kenny himself. If he is a wolf, he feels like one caught in a trap, hemmed in by the walls and the people he's trapped in here with. No way out. "Where would you go, if you could? Go somewhere, I mean."
xie lian — tgcf / heaven official's blessing
he 100% does not need one. however, if we want to play off of his origin as the crown prince who did indeed have a guard, that's an option (modernized or not, but taking it very au either way.) open to other options as well, can comment or dm.
but! he can be the bodyguard too! though knowing his luck, not sure how you came by hiring him! he is very strong though and will always put your character first.
m/m any actual shipping potential, but fine with gen too/ to see how their chemistry is first. )

i'm thinking like, either playing it more or less straight, with regular strong kid yuuji being assigned to protect nobara, maybe with like a yakuza or a rich girl, or even royalty bent?
or to flip it, nobara is still a sorcerer/or even just regular strong kid, sent to protect and/or escort yuuji somewhere? almost more like with getogojo and riko, or maybe it's some initiation thing.
these are the absolute biggest spitballs for a backdrop but i'm open to honing any ideas in with any of the prompts, especially depending on how you want to go with their relationship/the thread! ]
