Jin Ling is supremely uncomfortable. He's never been to a brothel before - understandably as that'd be pretty unbecoming for the Jin heir (and he's also well aware of the reputation his grandfather had had and he's not about to become the next Jin Guangshan, thank you very much), and needless to say he's not here because he wants to be.

Even the Jin heir can't always resist peer pressure though, especially when it's coming from those that already don't like or respect him much. He doesn't have a lot of friends - none at Jinlintai - and it's lonely. If he'd refused to come along to this little outing, that'd just give them more fuel to mock him. They'd already implied that he'd be too much of a "princess" to go along with this.

At least they're not in Lanling, and at least the others don't want to be recognized as Jin disciples so they'd all bought nondescript robes to change into before leaving. Jin Ling wears a black outer robe with grey inner layers, and he's taken his usual hair ornament out to keep his hair in a simple ponytail. He does not want to be recognized. Jiujiu would have his hide for this if he ever found out...

His discomfort probably shines through, though. While his "friends" immediately start to flirt with the girls that approach them, Jin Ling keeps a bit of a distance from them and brushes off two girls who try to talk to him. This is so awkward!

[A strange world, in many ways similar to his own, but not entirely the same. The buildings were as close-fitting as ever, for those of the lower caste, the royals and wealthy separated by walls and yards. People worked to make a living, the rich ruled and gained money through others, the workers lived their lives to make their coin through whatever means they were either good at or could tolerate doing to eke out their lives. People didn't change, no matter what time or world they lived in. But unlike his world, there was little within this one that exuded the nature and magic that saturated so much of where he'd come from. Leaving him sapped, drained, and with little more than his baser power. It was irksome at best, though at least the bonds he experienced were silenced.

Oh there were parts of him that desired to wreck it. Most of him. But unfortunately, numbers were the power here, and of those, he had none. Already almost torn apart by a mob out in the country, though he had done a fair job at sending them running in response for daring to attack him. Their dogs didn't fare well... Either way, the resulting vexation turned him against the idea of violence, instead ruefully skulking into the city and taking shelter in a less-traveled, but still turning building. A brief glance through the window shows the interior's lavish, likely decorated in the state Valdrigr was accustomed to, though not something Vald is keen on. It's opulent. Fresh.

He turns from the glass, slinks into the shadows of the courtyard green, and sidles against the trunk of one of the trees. Hunger. It clenches his stomach and rumbles inside. Yellow eyes snap to the side at movement, vertical pupils narrowing into slits at the creature on the wall. Furry little rat with a bushy tail, clinging to the stone beside a window. Vald emerges from the darkness, tongue sliding across white fangs and bronze lips. It's not indulgence, but it's food. In a flash, he snaps forward, one clawed hand sinking talons into the brick wall before launching himself upward. Barely time to squeak before the squirrel's snapped clean off the wall, a boot clunking against the window pane, and Vald vaults up onto the rooftop above the courtyard.

Perching on the balls of his feet in a gargoyle-like couch, he sinks his fangs into the rodent's body, silencing it immediately as it twitches and bleeds into his hand. The moonlight does little to hide his presence, but the height of the building and width of the roof is going to cover for him. Apart from anyone peering up from the windows lining the courtyard's second-floor railing.]
