The Rescue Me Meme

'Cause, sometimes, you just can't save yourself.

→ Post with your character's name, canon, and any preferences in the subject line

1. A Bad Date - You get a text, a phone call, or maybe you can just see the other person floundering on what clearly must be the worst date of their life. Time to step in and save the day.

2. Prison - Maybe they've been wrongly convicted, or maybe you're an accomplice. Either way, it's jailbreak. Maybe the guards will fall for the old 'wounded prisoner' technique.

3. Taken Hostage - They're being held at gunpoint, either for money or for fun. Maybe you can talk down their captors, or maybe you are a captor, secretly working to help them.

4. Abuse/Neglect - Your body is damaged, your suffering taken it's toll. You can't save yourself anymore. You're wounded, you're starving, maybe even dying. Someone, help.

5. Addiction - Just one more. Nothing bad will happen if you just get one more. Either way, you can't save yourself from this downward spiral. Someone else is going to have to help.

6. Yourself - One bad choice after another, your self-destructive tendencies are going to get the best of you unless someone steps in, quick, to save the day.

7. Climactic Situation - You're hovering over an active volcano, a pit of sharks, about to fall off a cliff. Whatever it is, you've only got precious seconds of life left.

8. Loneliness - You've been secluded, locked away, and the emptiness is overwhelming. You need company, or you might just drown.

9. Unwanted Social Function - A family reunion, your three o'clock board meeting, whatever it is, you desperately don't want to go. Hopefully your good buddy can come up with a distraction.

10. A Bad Romance - You're trapped in a relationship that's headed south, and you can't seem to get away from the other person. Looks like you need a helping hand, maybe a prince charming.

[Legolas has trouble trouble finding Bofur. There are plenty of places for people to go in the halls or even the forest but he thinks he'd have found him by now. When he finally does though, he feels like something is wrong and quietly hovers nearby before deciding to take a seat beside the dwarf.]

He crept quietly over towards the younger dwarf, when he heard a sickening crack under his foot. Animal bones. What creatures lived here and why did they want Kili?]

Kili? I am going to free you from this pit. Can you hear me? [Thorin crept closer and tried not to step on anymore of the bones. Was this a troll or an orc pit? The smell was disgusting enough.]

[ half-truths. their entire relationship lay poised and careful on Bedelia's half-truths, her rogue patient and the subsequent actions taken. it all boiled down to this - colleague visiting colleague, this was a friendly, courteous visit, meant to be lubricated with a bottle of Amarone and notes and articles he felt she would find useful in dealing with the patient he had referred to her. he awaited her session to complete in the waiting room of her office, seated comfortably, the clock on the wall indicating nearly fifteen minutes until her patient's evaluation was complete. he felt it only appropriate - he had referred the man after all - to give her his own professional opinion once her pre-analysis was complete. professionalism aside, he felt obligated to at least converse, share stories over wine and attempt to invite her to his own for more discussion.

he enjoyed his discussions with her. strangely, more than most, her presence was a soothing one, a calming, logical sense, gentle. perfect for his patient, better suited than himself. he found himself staring at the clock, the minutes passing, the sound of gears turning click by click.

he certainly hadn't expected the yell to come from the other room. a yell, first, and then a scream, and the man was up and immediately yanking open the door, only just in time to see his prior patient holding a brass lamp in one hand, wielding it as a weapon, in the midst of a psychotic break. normal behavior from a psychiatrist should have been a stern voice, a hand on the back of the neck, the other taking the weapon away - such methods took so much time, and the frightened way in which she looked, perhaps, perhaps that





he hadn't hesitated. had pulled the letter opener from her desk, had wrenched the man forward by his hair - awfully loud, screaming in fact, perhaps he was gripping harder than he thought? - and yanked him down, held him, pinned him onto the desk. the hands struggled, arms trying to flail free, get the man off of him. there was a surprising ease as he held him down with one forearm pinned tight against the man's chest, the letter opener held in his free hand as he pressed fingers into an open maw, the man hollering, screaming, obscenities formed around fingers that held the man's jaw apart. dragged a tongue free, held tight as tight as could be, the hand sawing the tongue apart, sawing it away. almost immediately there was blood, torrents of it as the patient screamed louder, as he gurgled and tried to breathe through the sickly copper taste of it. words lacked clarity, merely debased into animalistic cries that barely held any meaning. he held him through it, not allowing him to turn over, to let the blood drop over the cherrywood desk. hannibal tightened his grasp on the man and watched until his eyes were rolled back, glassy. passed out, unconscious from lack of airflow. the way the blood flow eased out the sides of his lips, over his jaw, it wouldn't be long until what little air could be obtained was choked out by drowning in himself.

he didn't move. not for some time. not at all, in fact. the thought to go to Bedelia, to make well certain that she was fine flickered across his mind, but not until the pulse beneath bloodied palms had ceased. ]

[ Lightnings play over his hands, his hair, in his eyes, even now as he walks through the darkness of the citadel at late night, Loki in his arms: little threads like static shocks, jumping over his skin. He is angry, still. He is quiet, but the turmoil rages in him, and there is grief, too, and a sense that is almost betrayal. Loki has suffered some harm, and the feeling that he has failed him again is the worst of all of them, grateful though he is that he lives, that he is yet whole, that catastrophe has been mainly averted for Midgard. Yet it makes his heart sore to return to Asgard—not to be among his own people again, in his own home, but that the idyllic respite in Midgard—an exile, yes, but a comforting one—is over now; that where once they must leave Asgard because of what Loki nearly did there, now they must return to it for the same reason, because Loki is not safe, because Midgard, perhaps, is never safe when gods try to meddle with its fate.

He knows, of course, that Loki meant to help, that it was the same as before: but it was the same, too, that he lied to Thor and hid his true purposes, and nearly came to grief for it. That one crisis was averted by the diversion of another, and all of them suffered for it. They cannot stay in Midgard now. They must go home, they must come under Odin's rule again, in Asgard where perhaps there might be some better chance of predicting and controlling the chaos which inevitably follows his little brother.

He brings him, quiet, to some unused bedchamber, and sits him down on the bed, getting a cloth and some water in a bowl from the bathing room to clean the blood and grime from his face; the lightning gone now and his hands gentle in spite of the soreness in his heart. Thor does not speak yet, far too conflicted between anger, resentment and sorrow to know what to say, to know whether he wishes more to apologize or to know why, again, Loki would not, could not trust him with his secrets. ]
