Flowers, in the Victorian Era (1837-1901), were often used as means of communication when people could not openly say things that we do these days. Think about someone who is naturally repressed; now imagine a whole society focusing on being repressed. You can see why lovers needed some sort of secret code. Poor things.

No longer used much, there are some remaining, well-known meanings—roses inspiring passion and love are a classic example. So, grab a bouquet and give it to someone special. Beware of what certain flowers could say, though. Not all flowers were used happily.

( She'd fucked up, to say the least. As a vampire, Odette had been trying her best to keep Kana away from it all: from other vampires, from kindred society. Least of all, her beast. It's why she refused to drink from her, tactically sipping off others when she could.

But, she saw. Walked in at the wrong time while feeding off a fellow ballerina. She thought she'd been so careful and discreet. She could choose to wipe Kana's memory, that was always on the table for her. In the end, though, what purpose would it serve? Hiding, secrets, excuses to why she could only train Kana at night? She detested the masquerade, if she were being honest. Selfishly, she wanted an out.

She seats herself studiously upon one of the couches in the breakroom as she reconvenes with Kana, nervously tapping her fingertips against her knees. )

Sorry. I... didn't mean for you to see that.
