Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know? As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo! All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best. However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to. According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right. Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child. It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant. Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet. These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders. Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions. Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends. Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans. Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth). REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate! Comment to others. Play out the scene.

Can you learn new tricks? True Bond: What all masters and pets yearn for...the pet's loyalty and adoration for life. Love: It's expected for masters to love their pets, but to love them? Romance is strictly forbidden. Old "Couple": Master and pet have grown together and know each other. You know, know each other. Loss of Master: The pet has lost their master, perhaps even their True Bond. Is it possible to move on? Young Master/Older Pet: Pets age quicker than masters, so it's possible to end up with a bit of an "age" difference. Family Pet: This pet's been raised as part of the family. What happens when their feelings for a family member get more than platonic. For Your Protection: You don't want to be a master, but you have to take in a pet for their protection lest they be in danger from the general public. Stray: You're a stray or a "Free." Can you live like this with your biology screaming for you to make a match? Servant: You're more servant than pet. All Sex, All the Time: The only purpose for this pet is to service the master, and not in a way that means cleaning their house. Guard: You're a loyal bodyguard, a service pet. You'll do anything for your master. Anything. Pet Play: This is for those who prefer to keep their animals on leashes, have them eat from bowls, and keep away from clothing. Breaking In: Training is important with any pet. In Love with Another Master...or Pet: To lust after another's master is no better than treason, and to wish to be with another pet just cruel! Punishment: Bad dog, no nookie! Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year. Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others. Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids. Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out! Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show? Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets. Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try! Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom. Pet Show: Everyone wants to show off how perfect their animal is. Look at that ass! And you'll never believe their special skills... Therapeutic: Pets, especially those bred for their kindliness, are perfect therapy for those who've been through trauma and heartache. Jealousy: Who's that around your master? Oh, hell no. They better not be touching them! Petting: Pet people are absolutely gaga for being touched. Even the most steely ones turn to mush for rubs. Games: Playing with your pet and giving them exercise is a key to happiness. Of course, with a pet person, you might want to use other toys instead of a ball.

Every pet that leaves their stores is pre-trained to be the perfect companion and while nobody ever says anything about romance, they sure do only sell pretty girls and they sure do talk a whole lot about how their pets are perfect for anyone feeling lonely and all the rest of it...

Ai is, at least on the surface, a happy-go-lucky, ditzy and affectionate pet absolutely overflowing with love for her owner. She's kind of a pathetic failwife in a way that is acceptably cute and moe for about two weeks and becomes increasingly pathetic and alarming the more you realize just how utterly lacking in a lot of basic common sense she is. But she's a designer pet so that's all by design, right?

The truth is that she's actually a stray abandoned by her first owner and snatched up by Strawberry Productions to tidy up and sell. She passes easily as a 'designer pet' but is terrified of anyone finding out the truth. Has a lot of her same canon hangups about her inability to sincerely love, her self-percieved 'dirtiness' as used goods, etc because I could replace every instance of 'idol' in the OnK script with 'pet' and upsettingly little would change!!!

[A Collector... well, there were definitely worse types of Masters to belong to. Being one of many pets means Sylvain will likely not be expected to "perform" quite so much, and there may be less oversight... even if there are rules. Which are very firmly but not unkindly told to him during the trip to his new home. He's fitted with an attractive but not too overt chain collar with a tracker in it that he's certain will cause him pain if he goes too far off the property without an escort. Blah blah blah. He keeps his face vague and mild, giving all the impression of a well-behaved puppy. In truth, he's watching the world go by outside the window and wondering which prison feels more suffocating.]

[As expected, after a short tour of the very large home and even larger outdoor lands, they separate from the Master and one of the hired caretakers leads Sylvain the rest of the way to his room. The names and species of the other pets are mentioned. It isn't until Ai and rabbit are said together that his attention really returns, his soft brown ears pointing upward and quivering with interest as his tail curls tighter toward his back. As if summoned by the words, they turn a corner and there she is, the shockingly familiar bunnygirl, entrancing purple eyes and all. Sylvain's nostrils flare to take in the familiar scent of her, but he otherwise doesn't react more than anyone would expect a dogboy to do, when faced with another pet.]

After working for a decent amount of years on board a Sky Cruiser, Nickov found a place to settle down in on Earth. Quiet, away from the city and light pollution, a good place to start.

But after so long with coworkers and friends in close quarters, it was very lonely out there. He began to spend more time back in the city seeking that companionship than he as at home, but the struggle of it and the dislike for the city life made him rethink things and find a solution to have the best of both worlds.

A pet!

He had not had one since he was a cub, and even then, not like these lovely pet people. Someone who had need of a home, and could be a good companion to be with, intimately or platonically, fostering pets became a wonderful way to help and fill that niche in his life.

The three he’d helped went on to be permanent companions to others, and he kept in general touch with them.

When the house began to feel lonely again, he took his speeder to a farther city than his usual grocery run to see if the shelter had any pets in need of a home.

He was allowed into the back room to have a look at the problematic pets, though the employees weren’t hopeful of any adopts from there as there was only one and he'd been there a long while.

And what a pet this dragon was!

Nickov’s face lit up at the sight of the magnificent being. He stepped up to the glass, smiling. “Hello” he greeted warmly.

Valcovlians were seldom seen this far out, and the employee tried-and failed-not to stare at this seven a half foot creature. His long tail curled and swayed slowly at his feet. He wore no shoes on the big clawed digits but tan wrappings to protect from the hard pavement of the concrete jungle. His lips and chin were tattooed magenta and there was a deep green scar that ran down the right side of his face, disappearing into his scarf around his neck.

“Whats your name love?” He asked. Yea, he could look at the tiny screen for all the info they had on the dragon, but why bother when he could ask?

as the owner, having a pet is a sign of 'normalcy'. that she was being a good girl. a present from her parents, if you will, and was something given to her as a young child. now that she's growing up, she's distanced herself from her pet in ways that the rest of the family cannot sense; the emotions that she supposedly wears on her sleeves is gone: replaced with fake smiles and something hollow.

she'll still take good care of her pet, but it's just the barebones. she's much too busy with school and studying to focus on them at all or play with them like she used to.

as a pet, mafuyu is the 'perfect bunny', manufactured by a rather large, well known corporation with the name asahina at the helm. people are told that mafuyu will be whatever they want her to be, and that's her selling point: a pet person so manufactured that all she can do is obey because she is nothing without it.

depending on how people go about it, people might learn that this manufacturing? it's not normal at all, they placed all these expectations on this poor girl to the point where she's become basically hollow and all she can do is put on the mask of a good girl because that's what will make her owner happy, as she doesn't want to make them sad.

[Could go either! As an owner, Kanade never intended to be one. She kind of finds the idea a little unsettling! But after spending so much time alone after the death of her mother and the hospitalization of her father, her grandmother thought it would be a good idea to send over a "companion" so Kanade won't be lonely.

Alternatively, she's a girl of deep compassion, so finding a frightened stray and helping them find a safe space to recover for a while is certainly something she'd do. No strings attached. She's not particularly good at taking care of others, but at least she can make sure they've got a roof over their head...



As a pet, she's a rather rare, unique thing. The result of selective and genetic breeding pets with qualities from different species, she's an elegant, silver-furred dog with the singing voice of a songbird. However, because of this, she's rather frail of health, so she's very much billed (expensively so) as a thing meant to look pretty, not as a companion for any outdoorsy types that might be drawn in and fooled by her wolf-like ears and tail.

She's loyal. And lonely. She'll never leave her master's side, and despite her lack of most practical skills, will certainly do all she can to keep them happy and comfortable.]

[Kanade's grandmother was so well-intentioned. What more could her sad little granddaughter need more than a sweet little rabbit? Young ladies the world over fantasize about that very thing, right? Perhaps Grandma should have read the details just a tad closer before signing the paperwork. She probably thought, 'what a sweet picture of a bunny! and so expensive! she will be perfect for my precious baby granddaughter!' or something like that. Probably nothing like that.

Rather than a demure little bun-bun, Kanade's grandmother inadvertently adopted a special breed previously owned by a death metal artist. Half a foot taller than Kanade, less jackrabbit and more jacked rabbit, and vivacious to a point unlike the typical bunny, Elphelt is not what grandmanade expected save for the most important one: she absolutely adores the quiet, lonely girl she has been gifted to. Maybe a little too much!

The door to Kanade's bedroom flies open and in slides Elphelt, clad in a frilly white apron over her short black shorts (showing her fluffy bunny tail!) and low cut pink crop top. The spiked, pink headband and collar she wore the day she was adopted are still there. In her hands is a bento box, held with the reverence one would give to a rare treasure. She announces her presence with an impromptu song.]

[Kanade may seclude herself in her sadness, but she will never get herself stuck in it with a pet like this. Was Kanade losing herself in writing music? Wallowing in negative thoughts? Taking a depressed nap? Distracting herself with cleaning? It doesn't matter, because it is lunch time and if there is one thing that has changed since Elphelt's arrival, it is that Kanade has not been allowed to miss a meal. No need for the girl to will herself to make anything when she has a pet so ready to do it for her!

Elphelt presents the bento. It is a cute little lunchbox covered in bunnies and clovers. Inside is...well, a simple turkey sandwich, carrot sticks (less than Elphelt intended, as she ate a few), and a cookie. More importantly, though, is a mysterious slip of paper that, if Kanade unfolds it says:

As a pet: a rabbit! A rabbit that acts more like a dog. She will absolutely adore and protect her owner, and will (not as subtly as she thinks!) fantasize about being her owner's wife. She will attempt wifely duties, but be very, very bad at all of them! She'll at least be cute when she fails. She'll also sing for her owner, which is nice!
