OPTIONS FOR THE SCENARIO-MINDED:

1. ENEMIES: in for the kill
The truth is you've been plotting each other's death for a long time. The only thing different about this situation is that everyone else actually wants you to off each other. Who cares if both of you are probably going to die anyway: no one is taking this bastard down except you.

2. ROMANCE: lovers in a dangerous time 
What do lovers do when they know they're about to die? Last kiss, last words, last fuck? Maybe you're desperately trying to protect each other from the rest. Maybe you're the last two left alive. What sacrifices are you willing to make? How far will you allow each other to go?

3. ALLIES: set your arms down
It's in both of your best interests to stick together. Two together is more deadly than one, and you can pool supplies and weapons. Of course, this arrangement is most definitely temporary. Maybe it'll fall apart tonight, or tomorrow, or next week. Maybe your alliance has already run its course, and it's about to fall apart...right now.

4. TORTURE: death's not the worst
Sure, the point is to kill them. But why leave it at that? Maybe you've always secretly gotten off on this sort of thing, or maybe you've just cracked under the stress. When everyone is going to die, there's no point in sticking to all those rules society laid down for you any more. You've already incapacitated them; there's no way they can fight back. Might as well have some fun, right?

5. VICTORY: the finish line
You've done it. Last one standing. You've chosen to live, and no one but you knows how much that choice cost you, because they're all dead. At this point there's nothing that will stop you from stepping up to claim victory. You killed every other tribute. Or did you?

6. OTHER: write your own story
Anything and everything you can think of. In the arena, there are no rules.

[ Yeah Batterbitch, you aren't fooling anyone with that reaping. As if killing their respective guardians wasn't enough of a kick in the teeth, now both Roxy and Dirk were "conveniently" chosen for this year's Games? Please.

The media had a field day with it. How life was so hard for the Strider and Lalonde families, united only in the cloud of misery that tracked them. Nevermind they look enough alike to give some commentators pause, but isn't it MORE important to wonder which media darling's spawn will win out? Literature versus film- which will come out on top!

Funny, wonder how many boon-bucks gamblers won when the two decided to ally before the bloodbath even started. Except it's not like the alliance can last forever, though Roxy's beginning to think they might fight over who gets to die ffirst rather than actually come to blows between them. God damnit, can't these ecto-siblings go one alternate universe without trying to out-martyr the other??

( Victory is close at hand, Finnick can feel it in the air, in his bones. If he'd only reach out with his hands, he knows that he can grasp it and take it for himself. Just like the last time, when he first won the 65th games.

But there's one last thing he has to do.

He turns around, and calls to the woods, his voice loud and clear and ringing in the silence. If his voice is trembling, if his body is shaking, if his eyes are clouded, the camera can't capture it and the world can't see it [they are all so blinded by the beauty of Finnick Odair, the conquerer who's managed to capture their hearts, and the one they all expect to win]. )

[ There's no way she could ever kill Janey! The heir to Crockercorp wasn't going to die like a barkbeast in this tournament anywaym not if Roxy can help it. Jane's name winding up in the reaping was just a conspiracy so the alien overlard could off her and never need to worry about a successor. Like a built-in societal assassination plot. That was why Roxy volunteered as soon as she heard the news- Jane would need a bodyguard.

Still, the numbers were dwindling to the single digits now, thanks to their awesome teamwork. Maybe Jane never needed to get her hands dirty in this competition, thanks to Roxy getting that crossbow early on. It had a hell of a recoil, but nothing compared to her old riflekind.

Roxy grins over the fire that cooks their latest present of food (from Crockercorp investors, judging from the high quality of meat. Or maybe fans of her mom's book. Who can say.) ]

This whole games thing has ruined every bit of chance for them to actually know each other without the threat of death looming over them every second of the day, but it's been almost too easy for them to bond despite that.

Alex knows, however, that the entire world is looking for a good show, and out of the 24 tributes, men and women and children, only one comes out alive. Friendship and love stands for very little, when their lives are on the line.

And he simply wakes up one day and realizes that this is it, and there's no turning back.

That everything ends here.

He grabs the loaves of bread given to him by his mentor. His mentor never sends him anything unless he wants something to come out of it, and Alex has to purse his lips.

[Katniss is right, Prim is too sweet and too naive for something like this. She's too delicate, doesn't quite understand what has to be done in order to survive. It's only day one of the games, and with Katniss not being allowed to volunteer to take her place in this wonderful meme, Prim is left to fend for herself. She's already bruised and covered in mud, and looks very much like a little lost child seeking safety.

But she knows Gale, she's grown up trusting him. She's entirely innocent enough to believe that they can work together until the very end, and that he'll agree to do it. He'd do it for Katniss, at least, wouldn't he?

As she spies him across an opening, she squirms out from her hiding place in a hollow tree and calls out to him.]
