THE TRAIN TO THE AFTERLIFE

Congratulations! your character is dead — for whatever reason, whether it be canon, au, what have you. it'll be a bit of a journey to the afterlife, though, so your character might as well talk to the other people. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be familiar people, whether recently deceased or long so. maybe your character know how they died, maybe they don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear. maybe it was simply their time or maybe they weren't at all ready to go, but none of it matters. your character knows they're dead and the train is taking them to an afterlife.

oh look — here comes the snack cart.

[Wuxian is not sure how long he's been dead: it might have been a decade or only five minutes. He doesn't feel much of anything at the moment, let alone the passage of time, and that's probably for the best. The overwhelming numbness is an incredible relief from whatever must have come before. He's a little hazy on that right now.

And yet he doesn't sit, the way most people on this oversized carriage seem to. Perhaps that is the surest sign that what he's feeling isn't actually peace, but merely a reprieve from a brief but overwhelming period of sorrow and suffering. Instead, he walks through the aisles, slowly but steadily, eyes unfocused but aimed in the general direction of his steps.

He doesn't look up at other occupants of the train; hasn't, since he first found himself here. He doesn't expect to run into anyone he knows. Why would he? Wherever he's going, it's not the place he'd expect to find any of the people he's lost either recently or long before.]

[ Rose's connections to the roads mean she's not a regular at the station or on the platform as other psychopomps may be, but she's no stranger to escorting the occasional lost soul who needed the rails and not the roads for their afterlife.

She's still not sure why being here always means winding up back in the dress she died in rather than whatever she'd chosen for herself that night, but it's not like she isn't used to finding herself suddenly overdressed. She maybe would have chosen a different outfit if she'd known it was going to be this much of a commitment. Or at least different shoes.

The shoes are why she's taking her sweet time on the platform bench. If this place is going to insist on formality, it can put up with her putting off the walk back out of the station in dainty but utterly impractical dress flats for a little while. ]
